Calling Giuliani on his many lies

Calling Giuliani on his many lies

Posted: February 19, 2007
1:00 a.m. Eastern

Directly contradicting his previous position, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, told radio talk-show host Sean Hannity he opposed federal gun control laws, preferring to leave the matter to states and municipalities.

"I've said all along that what's right for New York might not be right for Texas," he said in the interview in which he said he supported the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.

But that's not what Giuliani has said all along.

When he presided over the city government of New York, with some of the strictest gun-control measures in the country, Giuliani strongly advocated Washington take the lead on the issue.

"We need a federal law that bans all assault weapons, and if in fact you do need a handgun you should be subjected to at least the same restrictions – and really stronger ones – that exist for driving an automobile," he said in 1997.

As mayor, Giuliani participated in a city lawsuit against the gun industry.

"This is an industry that is profiting from the suffering of innocent people," he said in 2000. "What’s worse, its profits rest on a number of illegal and immoral practices. This lawsuit is meant to end the free pass that the gun industry has so long enjoyed."

And that's just the beginning of the way Giuliani has tried to redefine himself in hopes of winning the Republican presidential nomination.

While still touting his "pro-choice" stand on abortion, he is now trying to claim he opposes partial-birth abortions and supports parental consent laws.

Not so in 1999. When he was asked whether he would support a ban on partial-birth abortions, he told CNN: "No, I have not supported that, and I don't see my position changing." As if to underline his hard-line stand on social issues, he said: "I'm pro-choice. I'm pro-gay rights."

Now he tries to take a nuanced stance against same-sex marriage. Yet he steadfastly opposed the "Defense of Marriage Act," saying in 2004 on "Meet the Press": "I certainly wouldn't support (a ban on same-sex marriage) at this time."

You probably won't hear Giuliani make this statement, again, but he did say it in 1996 to the New York Post's Jack Newfield: "Most of Clinton's policies are very similar to most of mine."

Won't that be reassuring if he should be the Republican alternative to Hillary Clinton in 2008? And while he's sugar-coating his record and his positions now as he seeks to lead the Republican Party, it's clear that he was telling the truth in 1996 and lying now.

Take a look at his record:

Abortion: Supports

Taxpayer support of abortion: Supports

Embryonic stem cell research: Supports

Federal marriage amendment: Opposes

Same-sex domestic partnerships and civil unions: Supports

Open homosexuals in the military: Supports

Amnesty for illegal aliens: Supports

Tough penalties for employers of illegal aliens: Opposes

Sanctuary cities that ignore immigration law: Supports

What is the difference between Giuliani and Clinton? Is it style? It certainly isn't substance.

Is it simply that Giuliani doesn't wear a dress? Whoops! No, it can't be that. America's mayor is fond of publicly dressing in drag, too.

So what is it? Will the real Giuliani please stand up? Are we going to let this guy reinvent himself the way Mitt Romney has? Aren't we all smart enough to understand what this game is all about?

If you support Giuliani or John McCain or Romney as an alternative to Hillary or Obama, you're going to get what you deserve – and that is no choice at all.

There's a long time before the parties choose their nominees. Let's make the most of it and search for men of principle and conviction, not flip-flops and deceit.

That list was the first information that I had on Guiliani's stance on ANY issue other than the WOT. Good job, and thanks. I had heard that Rudy was a "moderate" Republican... now I see how he earned that label. I'll rot in Hell before I vote for him.

[No one can beat the Beast other than Rudy. Sorry.]

You're throwing in the towel before the bell has rung. It's still a LONG time before any election. Don't count your chickens, just yet.

And really... how much better is Rudy than Hildabeast, anyway?

Julie-Annie recently told radio talk-show host Sean Hannity he "opposed" federal gun control laws (preferring to leave the matter to states and municipalities).

Heavens, is Julie-Annie a "convert" ---- abandoning his jihad to decimate the Second Amendement?

Not to worry. Now that candidate Julie has learned, to his horror, that he needs social conservatives to make a good primary showing, Julie will be having sporadic "Come to Jesus" moments.

However, these are temporary blackouts. Julie will have no memory of these if, by some fluke, he ever gets near our WH.

Spiff mentioned some gun confiscations that took place under Guliani. I want to hear more details about that.

Well, between the Beast and Rudy, I will gladly and most reptitively vote for Rudy.

Of course. But that's not the point!! The point is to make sure this RINO doesn't make it to being nominated as the Republican presidential canidate.

For goodness sake when are you people gonna get it? I don't like the fact that these Sit -Outs put us into this current political position, but NOW we have the opportunity to hold Repubs FULLY accountable. They either get it done, or we will kick their sorry asses out! We have to put up a CONSERVATIVE and right now that looks like Newt or Hunter. No more of these "Put-Up-With- If," canidates.

No More rinos!!!

Sure would like to be in the room when The Rudester and his handlers compile Rudy's Pucker List.

Who will Rudy pucker-up to next?

We should make book on which voting bloc gets Rudy on his knees next for a full-blown Rudy pucker.

RINO-rudy:if in fact you do need a handgun

and just WHO decides this, potentially, life and death, Constitutionally-based decision for each individual citizen?

YOU, RINO-rudy, you arrogant, elitist a**hole? And as you go through your life 24/7/365 with security armed with all sorts of communications equipment and firearms, and other means of protecting your sorry a**?

YOUR going to have to pay for all that security prick, because WE'RE NOT going to put you in the White House where our hard-earned tax dollars are going to have to foot the bill for it.

New York City Sues Gun Industry
By Mayor Rudy Giuliani

On June 20th, I was pleased to announce that the City of New York filed a lawsuit against two dozen major gun manufacturers and distributors. This is an industry which profits from the suffering of innocent people. The lawsuit is intended to end the free pass that the gun industry has enjoyed for a very long time, which has resulted in too many avoidable deaths. The suit alleges a number of illegal practices on the part of the gun manufacturers, including:

* Deliberately manufacturing many more firearms than can be bought for legitimate purposes such as hunting and law enforcement, and knowingly targeting these excess guns to criminals, youths and other persons unqualified to buy firearms;
* Deliberately undermining New York City's gun control laws by flooding other markets which have less stringent gun laws with firearms that the manufacturers know are destined to be illegally resold in New York City;
* Ignoring the illegal practices of gun distributors, many of whom openly engage in the above practices;
* Refusing to manufacture safer guns, with features such as trigger locks and "personalization" measures that allow only authorized persons to fire the weapon.

More than 30,000 Americans each year - including 4,200 children - die because of gun violence. In addition, the city has found evidence of advertisements by gun manufacturers that claim their guns don't show fingerprints. This feature serves no purpose unless the user is intending to use the weapon for illegal purposes.

It is our hope that this suit will result in substantial financial awards to the City for the many ways in which illegal practices and illegal guns harm New Yorkers; including the $17 million dollars each year that are spent by the City's Health and Hospitals Corporation treating gun-shot wounds.

Over the past six years, New York City has reduced crime and murder more than any City in the nation. Our success has been built, in large part, on the tireless efforts of the Police Department to remove guns from our streets. But 95% of the guns that our police seize come from outside the City of New York. Their job of keeping New York safe is made considerably more difficult because of less restrictive guns laws in other parts of the nation and because of the illegal and immoral practices of the gun industry. This lawsuit is an aggressive step towards restoring accountability to an industry that profits from the suffering of others.

I wholeheartedly support you effort to expose Rudy.

But don't lump all Arnold supporters in the pro-Rudy camp.

I supported Arnold because he is the best that California can do at this time. But America can do better than Rudy.

Not all that much. If the choice is between the two, I'll vote third party, since it doesn't really matter which left wing liberal is in charge. Ether one will do just as much harm. The R has come to mean less and less since Regan left office. And now we're down to where there isn't any substantive difference between D & R
