McCain to Close Club Gitmo "The first day I am President"

Over the weekend, John McCain said in Iowa, "One of the things I would do, the first day I am President of the United States, is close Guantanamo Bay. I would close it and I would move those prisoners to Fort Leavenworth. It's become a symbol, which is very bad for America."

I can't believe he's saying that during the Republican primary phase of the campaign. Good for the crowd not applauding him.

This joker just doesn't THINK.

In Ft. Leavenworth they would be on American soil instead of leased Cuban soil, and we would have the whole habeas corpus issue that was just settled open up again like a can of nasty putrid worms.

Either he's an idiot, or he really IS the Manchurian Candidate.

Our enemies ( foreign and domestic ) would not change their tune. Moving them to Leavenworth wouldn't matter.

The latest Judicial ruling regarding US-held prisoners is that for those held outside the US, the US courts have no jurisdiction.

And McCain would move them all to Kansas! What a dolt.

move those prisoners to Fort Leavenworth.

Would moving them to US soil change their legal status in any way?

If so, why does McCain support this?

"And McCain would move them all to Kansas! What a dolt."

Kansas isn't too far from Iowa. Wonder how the primary voters there will like the idea of terrorists being kept nearby.

And move them to Levenworth.

Yet the court ruled yesterday that if they were in Levenworth they could be tried in civil courts, did they not?

Buh-bye, McCain. You just put the final nail in the coffin. Your candidacy is DOA in the Republican primary.

And if I was elected president, the first day in office I would have Gitmo's capacity increased and %60 of our elected reps would find themselves guests until such time they actually understand, and can publicly admit, that we are in the middle of a serious war and that their anti-American activities will not be tolerated any longer.

McCain hasn't realized yet that the majority of Americans could give two $hits about Gitmo. Typical RINO way of thinking...wasting time on unimportant stuff.

McCain is nuts because his views have no rhyme or reason to them. On the one hand, he stands firm for the surge even though other countries oppose it. On the other hand he wants to move terrorists to our home soil because he doesn't want foreigners to think poorly of us.

That's typical of McCain- just a total crapshoot as far as his views, with no consistent pattern.
