BERKELEY -- UC police cleared an encampment beneath tree-sitting protesters next to Memorial Stadium in Berkeley today and removed hammocks, tarps, banners and other items belonging to tree supporters who hope to stop a proposed athletic training center on the site.

After warning the supporters that they were lodging illegally on campus, police began removing their belongings at 12:45 p.m. Most of the items will be held as evidence. Books and food will be returned, said UC Assistant Police Chief Mitch Celaya.

There were no arrests and no attempt to remove the tree-sitters. This was the second police sweep of the encampment, which provides food and other support for the half-dozen protesters who've been sitting in the oak and redwood trees since Dec. 2.

The protesters vowed to rebuild their camp.

She's still dead, if she's the one I'm thinking of.

Why would anyone camp under those sitting in a tree? It's just like parking a car beneath a crow nest - not a particularly smart action.

So to save trees they: climb up them, carry garbage up them, probably tear up the bark while they are trying not to fall out of them, kill the tree with all the crap they tie around the limbs.

All in the name of saving the trees.

Nah, it's all in the name of seeing the games for free! Cheap bastages.

Don't you know you can watch the football games from those trees, without going through the inconvenience of PAYING for a ticket!

Compare Stanford to Cal:
1- Stanford tears down their stadium the day AFTER their season ends. New stadium is up and running weeks before football season is set to start.

2- Cal continues to study and evaluate plans that might see the light of day in 10 years. By then the COmmies from American Indian Movement will be using that land as a burial ground! (The hippies latest trick). Those aging hippie Indians may only have been 50 years old, but they all looked like they would die in a week.

A fire hose would take care of this.

A fire hose would take care of this.

So would fire. With the added benefit of driving the ecopaths even further nuts with all the CO2 released.

"wave" the tree squaters with one of these bad boyz...

Or use this "low-tech" weapon in mass quantities...

Either way, the tree huggers will scurry home in no time.

Anarchists & Marxists use useful idiots, who abound on a university campus. The Marxist leaders build up or trump up some "cause" or other to protest and to stage a sitin. It's never really about the socalled cause. The media are dense. They don't think about looking for the real story that is just below the surface, which is who the protestors' real leaders and funders are and what they are actually trying to achieve.

FReepmail from "OtterSings"- the character in the photo singing to the tree: (who knew it, these hippies are also commemorating war dead, even though that has not made print or tv media since they began this charade!)

Re: UC police clear protesters' encampment beneath tree-sitters From OtterSings | 03/05/2007 7:39:17 PM PST read Hello, I am the Otter in the picture to which you wrote this response. Good to meet you. I merely wanted to let you know that you are mistaken. Perhaps a tree near the Stadium that you've climbed is a good place to watch the games, perhaps East of the Stadium, up in Strawberry Creek? The tree sitters protesting in the Memorial Oak Grove (a "Memorial," along with the Stadium, to those who died in World War I), are protesting west of the Stadium, below it, and cannot see into the stadium. None of our tree-sits are above the rim. The most we get to see is the sassy young co-eds work out. 'Just wanted to clear that up. Let me know if you have any other questions for a tree sitter. Peace, -Otter
