SAN JOSE, Costa Rica An American senior citizen killed an alleged mugger with his bare hands, and his traveling companions aboard a tour bus fended of two other assailants in the Atlantic coast city of Limon, police said.
A retired member of the U.S. military aged about 70 put suspect Warner Segura in a head lock and broke his clavicle after the 20-year-old and two other men armed with a knife and gun held up their tour bus, Luis Hernandez, the police chief of Limon, 80 miles east of San Jose, said Thursday. Segura was later declared dead, apparently from asphyxiation.
The two other men fled when the 12 senior citizens started defending themselves during the Wednesday attack. Afterward, the tourists drove Segura to the Red Cross where he was declared dead. The Red Cross also treated one of the tourists for an anxiety attack, Hernandez said.
The tourists left on their Carnival cruise ship after the incident and Hernandez said authorities do not plan to press any charges against them.
"They were in their right to defend themselves after being held up," he said.
Hernandez said Segura had previous charges against him for assaults.

Someone died and I can't stop laughing! I keep picturing an old guy with black socks, sandals and those really oversized glasses with the dark lenses that flip up and down choking a guy who thought they would be easy targets!

"Having lived in South America for 5-years ..."Costa Rica is Central America, isn't it?
Anyways, travelling the back roads in Guatemala, our driver informed us that we may be "robbed" by "armed" locals and that we should hide our money and valuables, leaving a few dollars in our pockets to turn over to them if stopped. Nobody gets excited, nobody gets hurt. (We weren't stopped).
I wonder if that was the case here and someone forget to tell the tourists what was going on.

LOL! Don't forget the baggy shorts. And they have to be those thin black "Air Force socks" under the sandals.
Possibly a Hawaiian flowerdy shirt, but not necessarily. Could be a short sleeve Oxford number. If he's retired military, I'd say either the Oxford shirt or a Madras number.

In a related story the retired member of the U.S. military aged about 70 atated that he would attend the March 17th protest in Washington and hoped to put Jane Fonda in a similar head lock.
"I'll show those wimps at FR how to run a counter-protest" he was quoted as saying.

My dad's 82, a WWII combat veteran (N Africa and Italy), and that's exactly how he dresses (although in the winter he wears jeans instead of the Bermuder Shorts).
He's had a little heart trouble and is fighting cancer right now, but I think he could still clean somebody's clock (with the aid of his trust Parker 16 ga. double shotgun, preferably. I don't want him to strain himself.)
