I doubt seriously the senate will ever pass the thing. Under senate rules any senator can tie it up under any number of procedures.

They passed essentially the same bill last session.

Ironically, the previous attempt before that was shortly after the 9-11 attacks. That attempt was stopped by Senatory Robert Byrd (D-WVA) 'on a technicality'.

Which R will step up and stop this? I'd bet on none.

If I can I would like to add that the RNC, Bush, Rove, et al ran a horrible campaign. The democrats gave the RNC a ton of great quotes to use but didn't. The republicans ran at best a lack luster campaign and paid the price. We lost the middle because we didn't give them a reason to show up.

I agree. The Dems, Schumer and Emmanuel, did a good job of targeting vulnerable Reps and then recruiting good candidates to go against them. The Reps lost 10 seats in the Norhhteast alone with RINOs in CT, NY, NH, and PA being removed by more liberal opponents. Webb, Sestak, Mitchell, etc. were inspired choices. Libby Dole was a disaster as was Reynolds who barely held on to his seat. The Dems recruited opponents with military backgrounds. Not one Dem incumbent lost and 6 governorships changed hands. It was a rout.

I still have the nagging feeling that Bush and Rove weren't all that upset as they are still seeking the holy grail of this administration...Comprehensive Immigration Reform. The loss of the last election is the only way they can get what they seek.

I don't quite buy into that conspiracy, but there is no doubt that the WH believes that there is a pony in there somewhere. Bush sees an opportunity to get immigration reform and SS reform passed even if it it not what most Reps want.

The Democrat plan, coupled with Bush's debts to business interests, will accelerate the amnest program in time for the '08 election, where millions of illegals will get the right to vote, no question.

If the GOP Senate doesn't block this, they are asking us to make them a permanent and powerless minority (under 40 votes).

They'd better deliver. We'll remember in '08.

Pretty typical of "The Worst Generation". Throw a temper tantrum and then immediately run around blaming EVERYONE else for what THEY did.

Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-MA) plans to introduce an amnesty bill as early as the week of March 6, that includes an easier citizenship path for illegal aliens and weaker enforcement provisions than were in S. 2611, the Senate-passed bill from last year.

Granting amnesty is bad enough but to force feed citizenship on these criminals is lunacy. That is equivalent to putting a person's name on the title of your house just because he got away with breaking & entering!!!

Alien Rights Movement Gaining Momentum

A bill has been introduced that would grant non-citizen immigrants the right to vote in New York City municipal elections. “More than 50,000 of New York City’s adult non-citizens are disenfranchised by archaic citizenship requirements,” said Abby Dammed, of New Immigrant Community Empowerment. “The idea that these people should have to pass some sort of test on the Constitution and American history to vote is ludicrous. We let native-born morons who don’t even know who the president is vote. We let lard-asses on welfare vote. Why not let these hard-working immigrants vote?”

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) called the proposal “an interesting concept.” “We’ve banned literacy as a voting requirement for citizens,” Pelosi observed. “We don’t require citizens to speak English to vote. Why should we get fussy about aliens voting?”

Pelosi pointed to recently passed legislation that she says helps support the argument for doing away with citizenship requirements for voting. “The new revisions in the Pell Grant program to help students attend college will allow illegal immigrants to participate,” Pelosi said. “Is it sensible to say that a college-educated illegal immigrant would be a worse voter than an uneducated citizen?”

The California Democrat also offered the opinion that comprehensive immigration reform would render the immigrant/citizen distinction moot. “We’re going to grant them all amnesty anyway,” Pelosi said. “Why prolong the agony by stubbornly insisting they jump through another hoop to gain citizenship before they vote?”

Kennedy is working hard to do anything he can to hurt this nation. With all the special perks he has received, he still hates this country.

We should send the Senate and President Bush a copy of HBO's "George Lopez: America's Mexican" so called comedy performance in Phoenix, Az.

I held my nose and watched it last night, just to see what it was all about.

Just one part is the crowd went wild and cheered when Lopez made fun of our E-coli outbreaks, as he was acting out how they pee on our produce and deliberately wipe their butts and handle our food..just to pay us back for using them..Real nice.

He called Bush the worst possible names and made fun of Arnold as well.

These people totally resent us. And we want to make them Legal?!! They can't stop laughing at us, FGS!

My fellow Americans, here are the facts:

1) There is an illegal criminal invasion occurring by illegal criminal invaders, in the tens of millions, from the South.
2) Those illegal criminal invaders are killing more Americans, every year, than are Americans killed in Iraq, each year.
3) Illegal criminal invaders kill more Americans, each year, than were killed by 19 muslimes on 911.
4) War has not been declared by congress, nor is congress or our president protecting the American people from the illegal criminal invasion from the South.

If I were a muslime I would say and probably believe muslims are on the path of defeating the United States.

Being an American, I wonder why my congress and president are allowing the enemy this aid and comfort. Being a member of a family, I hold concern for each member and worry for their safety. When I see my representatives behave in a manner to place my family member in greater jeopardy, I wonder how much longer it will be safe to remain in the United States.

You sent them to DC to "teach the Republicans a lesson" for "being weak on Immigration". Hope you all enjoy reaping what you have sown.

Absolutely, Johnnie. Funny thing, but notice how the immigration issue is not as hot as it once was now that the Dims are in power in Congress. It couldn't have been a wedge issue drummed up specifically to push the buttons of the "real" conservatives, now could it. Couldn't have been designed for the precise purpose of divide and conquer. Nah! Those "real" conservatives are too danged smart to fall for such sly tricks, dontcha think. ;-)

Hey, everybody! According to MHJohnnie "we" sent Ted Kennedy to Washington. Forget the people in Taxachussets - it was us.

You're making an arse out of yourself, raybbr.

Hey Johnnie, do you think Bush will even consider vetoing this bill?

In 1999-2000, there were bona fide amnesty bills being floated by DEMOCRATS on Capitol Hill. In his campaign, then Governor Bush proposed a comparatively modest immigration refort package that, yes, fell short of bona fide amnesty. Funny how it wasn't much of an issue until 2005 and the lead up to the 2006 midterms. Funny how the issue then exploded in putatively right-wing circles. Funny how many of those hawking this issue back then are now quiet about it as the Dims once again look to push genuine amnesty.

Will PRESIDENT Bush sign the legislation if it ever gets to his desk? Who knows. But one thing I do know...on this issue he owes absolutely nothing to all you screech owls who have vilified him time and time again on this and other issues. You all shot your wad, and it resulted in a Dem Congress which will push a much more extreme immigration bill. And all you can do is sit around and whine about it.

My way or the highway doesn't work in most aspects of life, and it certainly doesn't work in politics.

When it comes to damaging the country, Ted Kennedy's chain immigration laws of the mid 60s, and John Kerry's demoralizing treasonous behavior in the Vietnam era are hard to beat.

Granted your senators hate this country as much as Kerry/Kennedy do, but your senators haven't done the damage that mine have. -yet - tom

Look at the coots we have in Congress today. We really need to get serious about term limits. Our future depends on it.

Although I don't think term limits for members of Congress will ever happen, I agree with you wholeheartedly.

You, apparently don't know about Bush's "new America". Bush has always been a proponent of remaking the United States into a replica of his favorite culture.

THE "NEW AMERICAN"
..........<

We are now one of the largest Spanish-speaking nations in the world. We're a major source of Latin music, journalism and culture.

Just go to Miami, or San Antonio, Los Angeles, Chicago or West New York, New Jersey ... and close your eyes and listen. You could just as easily be in Santo Domingo or Santiago, or San Miguel de Allende.

For years our nation has debated this change -- some have praised it and others have resented it. By nominating me, my party has made a choice to welcome the new America.

As I speak, we are celebrating the success of democracy in Mexico.

George Bush from a campaign speech in Miami, August 2000.

You can read the speech here.

Here is an excerpt of a good critique of that speech:

In equating our intimate historic bonds to our mother country and to Canada with our ties to Mexico, W. shows a staggering ignorance of the civilizational facts of life. The reason we are so close to Britain and Canada is that we share with them a common historical culture, language, literature, and legal system, as well as similar standards of behavior, expectations of public officials, and so on. Truth does hurts I see. They were all warned this was coming but they were so arrogantly certain of their own dogmatic purity they refused to listen.

What's your truth? That Bush has always wanted amnesty? Or, that some conservative have a backbone as opposed to quislings who can't see honestly?
