| The Kennedy Amnesty Reign of Terror Begins This Next Week -- Only Citizen Action Will Stop It | |||||
| DEAR FRIENDS OF AMERICA, CONSTANT ACTIVISM BEGINS AGAIN ON MONDAY. You will soon be getting customized Alerts from us asking you to send specific faxes and make special phone calls to build resistance to the amnesty that Sen. Kennedy (D-MA) plans to announce on Wednesday. Last year at this time, about 120,000 of you (we're double that size today) began a three-month constant battle to stop Congress from passing a massive amnesty for illegal aliens and the addition of 60 million foreign workers and dependents over the next two decades. Last year, you won. Kennedy and congressional Democratic leaders are saying they hope to try again, starting this coming week. They are counting on President Bush to round up enough Republicans to make up for all the Democrats you already are turning against the amnesty. They say they will ram the amnesty through the Senate Judiciary Committee in March and pass it through the full Senate in April. Presumably the House would try to pass it in May. We have a web page that already is tracking the Kennedy effort. Read more. WHAT WE/YOU WILL HAVE TO DO Our top Senators of concern this week who need very specialized phone calls and faxes from you are these: No. 1 -- Republican Senators who voted FOR the S. 2611 amnesty last May. Have to switch at least five of the 20. No. 2 -- New Senators (both Democrats and Republicans). Need at least four of the seven. No. 3 -- Democratic Senators who OPPOSED the S. 2611 amnesty last May. Need to keep all four. No. 4 -- Democratic Senators who will face re-election in 2008. Need to pick up! two or three in case we fail to meet goal in the other categories. No. 5 -- Republican Senators who OPPOSED the S. 2611 amnesty last May. Need to hold all 28. From those groups, we have to persuade 41 to vote against "cloture" on the amnesty bill. ("Cloture" is the word for ending a filibuster and allowing a final vote on the bill. You can kill a bill with only 41 NO votes on cloture, out of the 100 Senators.) Last year, the great activism of the half of you who were already on this team helped us get 36 NO votes -- five short of blocking the amnesty (thankfully, the Republican-controlled House refused to take up the bill). |
|||||
RECRUITING THE MAGIC 41 I hope you will take a minute to look at this in a little more detail so you will understand how your work the next few months fits into the overall strategy to spare our nation from yet another immigration disaster. Will you make a pact with me right now that you will stick with this battle until we have 41 NO votes to block the amnesty? HOLD 28 REPUBLICANS: We start with the Republican Senators who OPPOSED the S. 2611 amnesty last May. Of the 32 who voted NO last year, 28 are back. If you are in their states, you can leave them no doubt that their constituents overwhelmingly approved of what they did last year and would regard any support for the amnesty this year as a gigantic flip-flop. Several of these have significant weaknesses on immigration issues and might have voted last year with the Kennedy/McCain/Bush amnesty team if not for your pressure. *****I have put asterisks by Senators who may need some extra push to stay in the anti-amnesty camp, especially if there are some compromises and Pres. Bush makes an all-out effort to push the amnesty. *****Alexander (R-TN) *****Allard (R-CO) *****Bond (R-MO) Bunning (R-KY) Burr (R-NC) Chambliss (R-GA) Coburn (R-OK) *****Cochran (R-MS) Cornyn (R-TX) Crapo (R-ID) DeMint (R-SC) Dole (R-NC) Ensign (R-NV) Enzi (R-WY) Grassley (R-IA) *****Hatch (R-UT) *****Hutchison (R-TX) Inhofe (R-OK) Isakson (R-GA) Kyl (R-AZ) *****Lott (R-MS) Roberts (R-KS) Sessions (R-AL) Shelby (R-AL) *****Sununu (R-NH) Thomas (R-WY) Thune (R-SD) Vitter (R-LA) HOLD 4 DEMOCRATS: These four courageously opposed most of th! eir Part y last year. It will be even more difficult for them to stand against their Party this year because the Democratic leaders are in control now and can withhold perks if these four threaten to be the key votes that would block the Democratic leaders' open borders agenda. They need a ton of praise and appreciation. Byrd (D-WV) Dorgan (D-ND) Nelson (D-NE) ******Stabenow (D-MI) Stabenow was a surprise last year. Most considered her vote in May a sign that she felt she was facing a potentially tough re-election bid to a second term. Now that she has won easily, will she turn her back on the workers of Michigan and side with the wage-lowering business lobbyists in order to satisfy her Party leaders? RECRUIT 4 OF THE 7 NEW SENATORS: These seven replaced four Senators who voted NO on amnesty last year. *****Brown (D-OH) *****Casey (D-PA) Corker (R-TN) McCaskill (D-MO) Tester (D-MT) Webb (D-VA) *****Whitehouse (D-RI) Corker, McCaskill, Tester and Webb all ran as hard-liners against illegal immigration, but there are reasons for doubt with each of them as to their true commitment, especially with the freshmen Democrats who may feel a need to stay in good graces with their Party's leadership. Don't let them ever forget for a moment that the public remembers their campaign rhetoric from last fall. And I wouldn't let Casey and Brown off the hook. They are in strongly competitive states. Voting for this Kennedy amnesty could lose them major blue-collar worker support that they might never win back. If you meet all three of those goals, you have produced 36 NO votes, the same as last year. Now, how to get the last five votes? SWITCH 5 PRO-AMNESTY REPUBLICANS There were 23 last year, and 20 of them returned this year. I know that you in their states have given them a really tough time since last May. Can you move at least five of these? Bennett (R-UT) Brownback (R-KS) Coleman (R-MN) Collins (R-ME) Craig (R-ID) Domenici (R-NM) Graham (R-SC) Gregg (R-NH) Hagel (R-NE) Lugar (R-IN) Martinez (R-FL) McCain (R-AZ) McConnell (R-KY) Murkowski (R-AK) Smith (R-OR) Snowe (R-ME) Specter (R-PA) Stevens (R-AK) Voinovich (R-OH) Warner (R-VA) If you are in any of these states, you have a huge responsibility immediately. We are in a game of psychological chicken here. The Democrats are taunting Pres. Bush to use the full arm-twisting power of the White House to hold these 20 and ensure an amnesty passes. They and their open-borders allies -- Chamber of Commerce, Catholic bishops, ACLU, most newspaper editorial boards, national origins identity groups and unions -- are calling Bush a wimp for urging amnesties in his speeches but never delivering his Party's support in Congress. It is imperative that Pres. Bush not be goaded into making this the White House fight of the year. A key way to do that is for you to create so much angst in the offices of these 20 Republican Senators that they send strong signals to the White House that they want it to stay out of the fight. For this to work, you have to act immediately and regularly. One reason some of these Republicans may switch is that it looks like Kennedy may deliver a bill that is even worse than last year's. That will give them an excuse to switch and perhaps save face with their big business donors. Another reason for hope is that several of these Republicans may not be ideologically committed to open borders and wage depression. Rather, their pro-amnesty vote may have been mainly a loyalty vote at the reque! st of la st year's Party leadership of Pres. Bush, Senate Majority Leader Frist (R-TN) and the No. 2 Senate leader McConnell (R-KY). But Frist is gone. McConnell is the head Republican now. With McConnell not having control of the Senate or responsibility for it, he could be persuaded that there is no reason to help Kennedy and the Democrats win a big victory. At the very least, McConnell may not push other Republicans to follow Kennedy and Bush, releasing them to go with where their constituents are most pressuring, perhaps. In addition, Sen. Lott (R-MS) is now the No. 2 GOP leader. He voted NO on amnesty last year and may help tip the balance within leadership circles. Last year saw the strange circumstance of the Senate GOP leaders pushing for an amnesty that the majority of their Party's Senators opposed. There are a lot of reasons for the GOP leadership this year to line up with where the majority of their Party's Senators are -- especially with your constant response to our Action Alerts to put pressure on them. FOR INSURANCE, SWITCH 4 PRO-AMNESTY DEMOCRATS The four goals above would add up to the Magic 41. But that's too close, when our nation's future is at stake, don't you think? We could easily miss the goal in one or two of those above four categories. So, those of you with Democratic Senators who voted for the amnesty last year need to make life miserable for them the next month, even if you don't think there is any chance they could switch. About a dozen of them will be facing re-election bids next year. We will be sending special opportunities to those of you in their states as some of them will need to think twice before voting again for a giant amnesty. Here are the Democrats who voted for last year's amnesty: Akaka (D-HI) Baucus (D-MT) Bayh (D-IN) Biden (D-DE) Bingaman (D-NM) Boxer (D-CA) Cantwell (D-! WA) Carper (D-DE) Clinton (D-NY) Conrad (D-ND) Dayton (D-MN) Dodd (D-CT) Durbin (D-IL) Feingold (D-WI) Feinstein (D-CA) Harkin (D-IA) Inouye (D-HI) Johnson (D-SD) Kennedy (D-MA) Kerry (D-MA) Kohl (D-WI) Landrieu (D-LA) Lautenberg (D-NJ) Leahy (D-VT) Levin (D-MI) Lieberman (D-CT) Lincoln (D-AR) Menendez (D-NJ) Mikulski (D-MD) Murray (D-WA) Nelson (D-FL) Obama (D-IL) Pryor (D-AR) Reed (D-RI) Reid (D-NV) Sarbanes (D-MD) Schumer (D-NY) Wyden (D-OR) YOU MAY HAVE TO PICK UP A PHONE THIS TIME I know most of you prefer to do the easier action -- clicking to send faxes. That's good. But we also need a lot more phone calls which tend to have several times the impact of faxes -- especially in conjunction with the faxes. When you get alerts asking for phone calls, please look them over carefully and at least try making one. Most people are surprised at how easy it is. Once you have done it, you will tend to feel quite empowered. Last year, the open-borders groups complained after they lost that our side had out-phoned and out-faxed them by as much as 100-1. They have spent the last year trying to build up the tools and troops to at least match you. Fortunately, NumbersUSA's membership development team has not taken a break since last May and has more than doubled our membership. But we are going to need every one of you. THANKS FOR BEING PART OF THIS FIGHT, -- ROY |

If anyone wishes to join NumbersUSA who hasn't done so, please go to NumbersUSA to join. It cost nothing to join and you get action alert emails, where you can send faxes, call, etc.
Over the past couple of months I've made several phone calls to Sessions (R-Ala - Senate) regarding this matter.
Sessions is a conservative Repub. It would surprise me if he does vote in favor of amnesty.
However Shelby (R-Ala - Senate) is a RINO (former Demrat member) and Cramer (D-Ala - House) is a lost cause. He is a liberal Demrat/traitor through and through!
And this loser wants republicans to vote for him as their presidential candidate?
In my opinion, maybe McCain has developed some sort of subconsious hatred for this country after his stint in the Hanoi Hilton. Maybe he feels he is in some perverse way paying back the country for what he went thru as a POW.
I do not see how McCain (or Guilianni or Romney) can even come close to winning the Republican Nomination for President. I doubt that a majority of the rank and file GOP primary voters would vote for any of these clowns!
Sessions has really been a champion for the majority of Americans who oppose illegal alien amnesty, open borders or vastly increased legal immigration. That would come as a complete and total suprise if he turned and voted for Amnesty.
As far as your other RINO senator and Demrat congressman are concerned, don't give up contacting them about voting against illegal alien amnesty. When it gets closer to a vote on this travisty, they will take note of how much they are hearing about this from their constituents.

tx-i'll try to also wake up neighborhood
...an excellent summary of where the amnesty issue stands.
Let's get ready for a tough fight - this one is going to be against the Democrats and against our own White House I'm afraid.
I'll try to firm up one senator and flip the other (who is up for re-election).
Call them anyway. I have Boxer and Feinstein here in California but everytime amnesty comes up I burn up their phone lines. I call them every day or at least every other day. I also call the leaders of both parties and either praise or denegrate them for their positions.
Every time that someone like Kay Bailey Hutchison makes an idiotic statement I email or call them. When I am told that I do not live in their district and that what I think doesn't matter I tell them that their vote very much impacts me and that it IS my business.
Hold em to the fire or the rest of America will look and act like California! That should be motivation enough.
I'd like to help but I'm from Massachusetts. I think our best bet is to try Alaska. Why does Stevens and Murkowski want ammestey?
I keep wondering who will run against Norm Coleman, or if we'll again get the lesser of two crapweasels once again.
Maybe so. I like Sessions more that I do Shelby. However "Bud the Dud" Cramer is a lost cause.
Right On!
Right On!
Bush hand-picked FL Senator Republican Mel Martinez as RNC Chair. He was co-author of the ridiculous Hagel-Martinez admendment.
I live in Florida, and every local conservative talk show in Central Florida openly critizes Mel for avoiding interviews and dodging the issue of his unwavering support for illegal aliens in his speeches. It's maddening how he squirms his way around this issue by speaking in vague terms, but we're stuck with him until 2010 as Florida senator.
I have hounded him with emails, faxes, and calls as FL senator and RNC chair via his web page and chairman@gop.com
<< send him a note, by the way.
I've told RNC-fund raising callers to send a message to their bosses that I'll not contribute due to GOP limp-wristed policies on border security and illegal aliens.
We must work to keep this issue on top of their list.

I agree in part with what you are saying.
However, until there is at least a somewhat organized (and effective) operation underway that can motivate the average Joe Six-Pack out to get out onto the streets and in front of the cameras (provided the pro-illegal media doesn't just black out the event and make no mention of civil unrest) or committing massive acts of civil unrest, the best thing we can do is blast our politicians by phone, fax or in person.
It WILL BE a tough fight, a fight that we must fight, no matter who our opponents are.
All I can say is keep making noise. You may be able to flip the other senator, who is up for reelection. That fact alone (re-election) may make them reluctant to sign on to this latest Kennedy/McCain Amnesty travesty bill.
Just the fact that this latest Kennedy/McCain bill will likely be even more liberal than last years may make a few of the RINO's who voted for it last year vote against this new latest one along with some Demrat senators who are from conservative/conservative leaning states may pass on this as well and support a filabuster.
Remember, we only need 41 senators, regardless of party, to vote against cloture to keep this travesty from coming out of the Senate. If we can get this stalled in the Senate into 2008, then they will probably table it, due to it's being an election year and too volitale an issue to deal with, especially in an open seated Presidential Election year.
Maybe with enough pressure from his constituents (like you), Coleman can flip and vote against this latest Kennedy/McCain Amnesty travesty. It is reported to be even more far reaching (worse) than the one he voted for last year. He is up for re-election in 2008 and if enough people contact him, he may just feel enough pressure to change his vote.
Besides, didn't your Republican Governor there, Pawlenty, just win a resounding re-election in 2006, with a very strong anti-illegal alien/amnesty position central to his campaign. If Pawlenty was able to do this in a state wide election, then Coleman can't argue that the folks of Minnesota will not support someone who is against illegal immigration/amnesty/open borders.
Mass here also...got any ideas on how we can help? Anyone?
Those two from Alaska would be a good start. I can't figure out why they would vote for it. You would think that Alaska would be about the only state that wouldn't be a big draw for illegals!
Coleman could be another candidate to flip. He is up for re-election in 2008. Corker from Tennesee would amount to another flipped vote (he took the place of RINO Frist). Graham from South Carolina could also be a good candidate. He is up for re-election in 2008 and will have enough problems as it is just seeking the GOP nomination in 2008.
Mr. Beck makes some good points:
First, this latest bill is more far reaching (worse) than last years Amnesty/Travesty, thus making it easier for a RINO or even a dimrat in a fairly conservative state to justify flippin their vote.
Second, Trent Lott is back in Leadership, so he can twist or flip some of those votes on his own. He has been a strong opponent of illegel alien amnesty in the past or most anything else that would benefit illegal aliens. He may be able to get half of the RINO twenty to flip with some good old fasioned arm twisting.
Third, the Demrats are now in control of the Senate, so some of those RINO's who may have voted yes out of majority party loyalty this year won't be doing that this year.
There is one other point that Roy Beck didn't make. Last year, if Amnesty passed, Demrats would have been able to fix the blame solidly on Republicans, since they controlled both the Congress and the White House it would have been Republicans who allowed the bill to pass.
Now, they must take 50% of the blame if Amnesty passes this year, since they now control the Congress. That will infuriate alot of their own rank and file membership as well. When you have 70 to 80 percent of the country opposing illegal alien amnesty, it is not hard to conclude that alot of that opposition comes from rank and file Demrats themselves, along with independents. However, we would have to wait and see just how much the rank and file Dimrats or independents take it out on their newly elected congressional majority who would vote for this amnesty travesty.
BTTT
Al Frankin the far left wack job is running against Coleman.
Americans cannot be for the war against Islamofascist and for amnesty.
The invasion from Mexico is no different than the WOT, it is part of it.
Just live in San Diego one week.
BTTT!!!
Hate to say it, but the deal was made a long time ago. Bush is going to get his amnesty, and the borders will be quietly erased.
Bump
I agree with you totally.
Just live in San Diego one week.
No need to. Illegal aliens are branching out all over the country now. You don't have to live in a border or southwestern state to see the impact of illegal immigration any more. They are popping up everywhere now. In places over a thousand miles from Mexico, where just a few years ago there weren't any are now inundated with them.
Amnesty is a slap in the face to the thousands of immigrants waiting in line for years to have the chance to become an American.
I sure hope you are wrong on both counts. That being said, I will not go down quitely and give up/quit. That is just what they want. I will do whatever I can to stop this madness and get others to fight on as well.
Agreed. Couldn't have said it any better myself.
Hey BG, The only time the politicians who favor amnesty see south of the border folks is when they are doing their lawn work, nanny, or cleaning.
They need to get out of their safety hiding holes and see what we are putting up with in the real world.
And, for more than a photo op where the area's been swept prior to their arriving.
bttt
It's too bad no one heeded our warning, isn't it.
Thanks for posting this information.
Yes it is too bad no one paid attention to what was going in the border states concerning illegal immigration. I remember people saying it is just a border state problem. Not anymore!!!
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
What an arrogant jerk, to treat the legitimate concerns of his constituents in that manner. Probably getting a big chunk of his campaign $$$ from illegal alien employing farmers and other employers. He is turning out to be no better for the country than the man he replaced in 1980, Church.
I know all about Franken. What I meant was he's the other crapweasel option(Norm being the other).
IMHO,Pawlenty very well end up as McCain's running mate.
great post!
Before the Senate even considers this action they should all be required to watch this speech and make note of the charts used...
