LOS ANGELES - "An Inconvenient Truth," the documentary that turned former vice president Al Gore's power-point presentation on global warming into an engaging and entertaining film, won the Oscar Sunday night.
The best-documentary win was a triumph for Gore, who has kept a sense of humor about his loss in the 2000 election that was decided in George W. Bush's favor by a U.S. Supreme Court decision.
"I am Al Gore. I used to be the next president of the United States of America," Gore says in the film, repeating a line he has used often.
Sunday, Gore used the Oscar win not to further his political career but to boost his campaign to find solutions for global warming and other environmental problems.
"My fellow Americans," Gore said to laughter from the crowd. "People all over the world, we need to solve the climate crisis. It's not a political issue, it's a moral issue. We have everything we need to get started with the possible will to act. That's a renewable resource. Let's renew it."

I thought it was a cartoon.
everywhere Algore shows up, there is cold weather, sometimes a blizzard, incredible coincidence?
yesterday at the Nascar race in SoCal everybody was wearing a parka - mid 50s and windy
God is speaking to us about global warming, LOL
"AND tonight's 'P.C. Whore and Hypocrite' Award is presented to Al Gore for his mockumentary...."
Gore had a movie?
The movie should be called "A Conventient Lie."
What was the basis for the Oscar?
Does he have to give it back when it's discredited in a few years?
Get with the program, it's now "Climate Change." The fearmongers have all the bases covered now.
>> It's not a political issue, it's a moral issue.
Well then, I guess it must be a relative issue.
Michael Moore didn't give his back after it was proved he doctored video.
Some day, not too far into the future, Hollyweird will look back on the Al Gore and Michael Moore awards and be embarrassed.
Maybe.
While we're all sure that Hollywood returned to their respective 20,000 sq ft mansions in their SUVs, it's also good to know that Mr. Gore shares Hollywood values.
For someone who says the sky is falling, he does very little. He says he recycles and drives a hybrid. And he claims he uses renewable energy credits to offset the pollution he produces when using a private jet to promote his film. (In reality, Paramount Classics, the film's distributor, pays this.)http://www.usatoday.com/news/opinion/editorials/2006-08-09-gore-green_x.htmPublic records reveal that as Gore lectures Americans on excessive consumption, he and his wife Tipper live in two properties: a 10,000-square-foot, 20-room, eight-bathroom home in Nashville, and a 4,000-square-foot home in Arlington, Va. (He also has a third home in Carthage, Tenn.) For someone rallying the planet to pursue a path of extreme personal sacrifice, Gore requires little from himself.
Al Gore supporters around me, get told to stop buying gas.
For someone rallying the planet to pursue a path of extreme personal sacrifice, Gore requires little from himself.

It is just more lying hypocrisy and sham from the left. So what else is new, right ??
Was there really any doubt that he would win? PUHLEEZE! I am proud to say I havent been in a movie theater in over ten years. Last night I watched Sands of Iwo Jima and Patton. Doesnt get any better than that. Except for maybe some Bon Bons.
They would have awarded "Triumph of the Will" as Best Documentary in 1935.
" he uses renewable energy credits to offset the pollution he produces when using a private jet "
There's nothing going to stop the pollution,
from Al Gore's private jet, no matter how many credits
he buys.

Al Gore may actually recycle!
Maybe
I give it "The Finger."
Proud to say I haven't been in a theater since 'The Hunt for Red October'.
Al Gore may actually recycle!
----
From looking at Al last night, he probably is recycling MANY beer cans....
When Algore was on stage with Leonardo DiCapria, the big board behind them showed a message that read "You can get your CO2 emissions down to zero". There is only one way to do that.
Amd why did Melissa Etheridge use electric guitars made out of wood? And how about that Sound Effect Orchestra? WOW! THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT!

This is Al "No Controlling Legal Authority" Gore, right? I feel the need to create my own "controlling authority" and it goes like this: Anyone who wants to talk about man-caused global warming must be "living their faith", that is, no car, no heat, no AC, no farting, - or show me where they've purchased their "carbon credits" to offset their horrible emissions - or else STFU. If they want to play along with this being "a moral, not a political" issue, fine - as long as they don't object to having their moral "credentials" examined.
Luckily I did not watch the Academy Rewards ceremony (I never have) so I did not have to throw any type of bucket to the TV.
How did Algore get the reward? Has he become a producer/director, and where did he get all this knowledge regarding global warming? The man must be a genius. He does not belong in politics where he would be wasting his "talents".
"yesterday at the Nascar race in SoCal everybody was wearing a parka - mid 50s and windy"
I was hoping for cold weather in Los Angeles for yesterday. It would be appropriate for Gore's award.
Just out of curiosity, how many Oscars have previously been awarded to propaganda films?
Prop·a·ganda: Material disseminated by the advocates of a doctrine or cause.
How many viewers of this documentary actually paid to see this piece, or even went out of their way to view it?
How many copies of this propaganda piece were given away to schools and activist groups?
For the last ten years, data is available to know how many people have paid to rent "documentaries" like this piece of crap?
Will it be ever among the top 100 Oscar-winning documentaries ever produced?
Where does it rank now among rentals?
Just idle speculation...
""You can get your CO2 emissions down to zero". There is only one way to do that."
Stop breathing and farting.
Ugh, wish I could say that. I got pressured into seeing "snakes on a plane" with some good friends of mine. Everybody was embarrassed afterword...it was even worse than I imagined it would be. Prior to that, I think "Saving Private Ryan" was the last movie I saw in a theater...
Sunday, Gore used the Oscar win not to further his political career but to boost his campaign scam .
Was that last night?
I remember realizing there was nothing new and good on TV, so I watched re-runs of Stargate and Mayberry RFD.
To bed early with the latest Dirk Pitt Clive Cussler novel...
Did I miss anything exciting?
Gore didn't receive an Oscar, the director did and invited Big Al up on stage to share the limelight.
They should change the name from Oscar's to the "Leni's".
CASABLANCA was on TCM so I watched that.....
It was disappointing to learn how low the bar has fallen to meet the Oscars documentary requirements. The saddest part is that it diminishes all true documentaries
This concept of "renewable" energy bugs me. One of the basic principles of physics is Conservation of Energy -- energy can neither be created nor destroyed; it can only be changed from one form to another.
And even if what he says is possible, I wonder how many pairs of socks Al Gore would have to hang on a clothes line to make up for one of his trips in a private jet.
TS
Won in wrong category...should have been Science Fiction
Moore didn't give his back...
*yawn* I'm shocked...
He didn't get it. The producer did. And they actually can't discredit it if the basis for the movie isn't Global Warming, but Al Gore's personal crusade to spread the lie. If it's the latter, that 100% truth that he's doing that.
Wow! An Oscar! I'm positively SHOCKED!/s;)
Must take quite a lot of energy to heat those homes...and how many trees need to be uprooted for a mansion?;)
Ya don't say.... wow... who knew?
Global warming is just as serious as that Y2K threat that Gore warned us about back in 1999. </sarcasm>
