The John McCain candidacy, launched amid much hope, fanfare, and high expectations, may be dying before our eyes. Even worse, it may go out with a whimper instead of a bang.
It may not end in an Armageddon style primary defeat, but just dry up from lack of support, money, or interest.
Throughout all of 2006, McCain sat atop the polls right next to Rudy Giuliani. In the Fox News survey of December, 2006, he was getting 27 percent of the Republican primary vote to Rudy's 31 percent. But, after Giuliani announced that he was running, the Arizona senator fell to 24 percent while Rudy soared into the stratosphere at 41 percent of the primary voters. But even when McCain was polling well, he wasn't raising the money he needs for this ...

Who cares? He's the Media's Favorite Republican TM and that alone makes McCain anathema to conservatives.

IMHO, he won't make it past the primaries -- sooner is better to allow focus on a better candidate.

Damn, I hope Dick Morris is right about this. McCain is persona non grata with the GOP base and he knows it. Rudy should deliver the coup de grace by offering McCain a cabinet position (SecDef, perhaps) if he drops out now.

Soon it will be down to Rudy and Romney. This is a better choice.
Somebody came out with a push-poll this morning that said most voters would not be inclined to vote for a candidate over 72 years old. McCain turns 72 this year.

Even the MSM seemed to turn on JohnnyMc.
A few weeks ago when he was on Russert's Meet the Press, Russert asked some tough questions. McCain hadn't had that kind of treatment by the media since around 2000.
That was a signal to McCain that the media's playing-nice with him was over. McCain doesn't seem to be the media darling any more.

I'd prefer Tom or Duncan, but they can't win after the sour note Bush has left, so its Rudy only for more Alito's to the court....while praying Republican's in the senate will make it difficult for hime to socially engineer.

BTTT! I hope John McCain's career in politics comes to an end and he can do more beneficial things in life such as go fishing and play bridge or chess or something. As a political leader he seems all consumed with the "political pandering" and little about the "leadership" part.

But where it has counted, on the two core issues that move Republican voters these days tax cuts and immigration McCain is badly out of step with the GOP base. This is more likely the real reason. Morris only has this article half right.
The real reason is that McCain in 2000 got tons of free happy airtime from the MSM. This equaled millions of dollars in free campaign advertising. The only reason he got such glowing coverage was because the liberal MSM wanted to prop him so he could beat Bush, who was the more conservative candidate. The same dynamics are in place in 2008.

Thats because the only reason for the kid glove treatment in 2000 by the MSM was so that McCain would beat Bush.

I don't know that it's necessarily a good sign that the candidate most outspoken in his support for the war in Iraq and the current surge is dropping in the polls.

Giuliani strongly supported a guest worker program supported by President Bush and said during a newly interesting appearance on Meet the Press the following: "There isn't a mayor or a public official in this country that's more strongly pro-immigrant than I am, including disagreeing with President Clinton when he signed an anti-immigration legislation about two or three years ago, which we got some amendments of to protect the rights of immigrants."
Thank you ruddy for reminding us that your to the left of the clinton's.

If this is not a case study for future GOP candidates at all levels trying to get on the good side of McMedia and then get their legs cut off, I don't know what is?
If you live thanks to McMedia, sooner or later you will die thanks to the same McMedia. Unfortunately the same rules do not apply to the Democrats.
