Former Vice President (and global warming aficionado) Al Gore deserves an award for hypocrisy, says the Tennessee Center for Policy Research.
The group, which studied Gore's electric and natural gas consumption, says his mansion in Belle Meade area of Nashville "consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year."
In his documentary, "An Inconvenient Truth," Gore urges Americans to conserve energy by reducing electricity consumption at home, the group noted.
"The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) a year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh-more than 20 times the national average," the Tennessee Center for Policy Research said in a news release.
Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh - consuming more than twice as much electricity in one month as the average American family uses in an entire year. Gore's average monthly electric bill topped $1,359, the research group said.
Likewise, the natural gas bills for Gore's mansion and guest house averaged $1,080 a month last year.
"As the spokesman of choice for the global warming movement, Al Gore has to be willing to walk the walk, not just talk the talk, when it comes to home energy use," said Tennessee Center for Policy Research President Drew Johnson.
In total, Gore paid nearly $30,000 in combined electricity and natural gas bills for his Nashville estate in 2006, the Tennessee Center for Policy Research said.

After 12 posts yeaterday, nobody missed it.
Give him a break - he must be doing experiments with his fusion reactor! There is no controlling legal authority for basement reactors.
Al baby! That's excessive! We are going to have to take things away from you for the common good!

Actually, I honestly did miss this. But, I am unusually busy these days.
You just can't make this stuff up about these lying BS artist hypocrites.
How the heck does one use 22,000kwh a month?
Last summer I bought a new house. Well an older house with two old hvac units badly in need of repair. Didnt have the money to replace them right away.
Anyway, those 2 units ran 24x7 for about 2 months during July and August...Even then I never exceed 5,500 kwhs per month(which equated to ridiculous power bills to me)
Gore I assume would be using modern energy efficient appliances and hvac systems. It MUST be a monster of a mansion to be using that much power.
at $1,359 a month, either his house exceeds 10 thousand square feet or he's running an indoor greenhouse that grows high end weed
Heated pools?
Example: a mid-sized 30 mpg car driving 12,000 miles/year will create about 3.55 tons of CO2/year. Using Carbonfund.org's calculator we figured this would cost only about $19.50 or $1.63/month to be offset! This means that for a very small amount of money you can drive the equivalent of a zero-CO2-emission car! e to free my conscience?
Hummm.... How much does 400 gallons of gas weigh?
This "Carbon Footprint" insanity has to be the bullshit of the Millenium.
And to rub it in even more - there was an article on FR yesterday about how green the Bushs' Crawford house is.
Why?
The country is full of liberal hypocrite.
As a matter of fact, "liberal hypocrite" is redundancy at it's worse.
If it's waiting to exit AlGore, I'd say about 750 lbs.
By giving an abundance of global warming speeches and not being environmentally friendly and harnessing the thermal energy generated by the speeches for personal use.
Gore isn't quite as green as he's led the world to believe
http://www.usatoday.com/news/opinion/editorials/2006-08-09-gore-green_x.htm
Public records reveal that as Gore lectures Americans on excessive consumption, he and his wife Tipper live in two properties: a 10,000-square-foot, 20-room, eight-bathroom home in Nashville, and a 4,000-square-foot home in Arlington, Va. (He also has a third home in Carthage, Tenn.) For someone rallying the planet to pursue a path of extreme personal sacrifice, Gore requires little from himself.
Then there is the troubling matter of his energy use. In the Washington, D.C., area, utility companies offer wind energy as an alternative to traditional energy. In Nashville, similar programs exist. Utility customers must simply pay a few extra pennies per kilowatt hour, and they can continue living their carbon-neutral lifestyles knowing that they are supporting wind energy. Plenty of businesses and institutions have signed up. Even the Bush administration is using green energy for some federal office buildings, as are thousands of area residents.
But according to public records, there is no evidence that Gore has signed up to use green energy in either of his large residences. When contacted Wednesday, Gore's office confirmed as much but said the Gores were looking into making the switch at both homes. Talk about inconvenient truths.

I do have a related question, however.
How far do the Gores have to drive their SUVs from the Tennessee mansion to the airport where the private jet awaits?
.
"I have to wonder if this smackdown got any air time outside of conservative talk radio/websites and made it into the msm."
Brit Hume just covered it on his Fox News program.
I can't say about the others because I don't watch them. LOL
"drive their SUVs?"
Drive their SUVs? Never! "If there isn't a limousine waiting we ain't going!" LOL
After 12 posts yeaterday, nobody missed it.I would have missed it but for this one being posted
AND someone sent me this link via email today. :)
You burn 22,000 easily. First...you have a out-door pool which must be heated 365 days a year (note the excessive use of natural gas as well). Then you toss in a sauna. Then you toss in a walk-in frig...with a huge freezer set-up. Then you toss in a massive amount of security lighting. Then you toss in a central air unit that is 150 percent the size really required. Then you run the central air unit 365 days a year (even if the outdoor temp is 72 degrees...you run it). Then you toss in a indoor spa...which must be heated constantly.
All of these rich dimwits...the hollywood crowd...the Florida millionare wannabes....the Houston oil tycoons...they all are using this much power.
I'm starting to think that a carbon tax might be nice...open it to only people who use 3 times the amount of the average family in America and set the tax at 33 percent of their yearly bill. Let the money pour into social security and the national debt though.
Lets be honest about this...if the dimwit had put in a solar cell operation on his roof...a windmill in the back 40 acres...then we wouldn't be on his case. For all these years that he has been talking about energy conservation...he couldn't even take care of himself. Thats the sad and amusing part of this story.
Hey buddy, can you spare a Carbon Credit? I need a smoke....
"For all these years that he has been talking about energy conservation...he couldn't even take care of himself."
Al Bore is a putz...always has been...always will be.
If not for his father's wealth & position, he couldn't hit his arse with both hands.
Weren't we going to turn down the thermostats and click off lights in empty rooms?
So how did Mr. Greenjeans Gore manage to use even more electricity after his big film An Inconvenient Truth was released? Yep, according to the Tennessee Center for Policy Research, the energy consumption to the Gore's 20 room mansion increased from 16,200 kWh a month in 2005 to 18,400 kWh a month in 2006.
But wait! Just since August 2006, the Gores have burned through 22,619 kWh a month. According to the Department of Energy, the average American household uses 10,656 kWh a year!
Well you just know that somebody somewhere counts these things. If America is good for anything, we're a nation of counters. We count everything. In Mr. Greenjeans' case, somebody counted the dollars he spent on his seemingly overabundant consumption of -- dare I say, carbon emitters. Isn't he the one who's going around screaming at everybody to cut back?
We did just that. We only used 282 kWh last month. That's according to our last electric bill. For the whole entire year, we averaged only 12.9 kWh a day. That includes really hot steamy sultry days in the globally warm summertime when the air conditioner is running.
Top that, Mr. Greenjeans.
Thanks for posting!
Very appropriate!
