Just wondering if anybody else is watching this.
Not me. I'm on FR and hubby's watching the western channel. Is it good? What's it about?
God bless these noble warriors and their families.
Basically it is a documentary about his recovery. So far he has been praising the military for saving his life both in Iraq and then in Germany and back in the US. But, I'm waiting for the liberal slant.
I watching. So far it is very well done.
Coming from him, so am I.
Real nice of him after the Military treated him like a soldier.
We owe these soldiers and their families! Some of them are not being taken care of. That's a fact! I'm pissed to see the head of the VA say they are doing all they can. That is a lie.
I did not see it as "bashing" the VA. He is giving an honest view of the VA hospitals around the country. From what I understand can be a pain in the rear to deal with.
I'm not watching but Someone told me it was amazingly good coming from ABC.
I'm with you on this so long as the attacks are legitimate and are coming from soldiers not some leftist reporters who are trying to get ratings.
The VA can be a pain. My grandmother had a stroke last week and we've been struggling to get them to pay for the therapy that they should be giving her.
It's not a malicious thing, it's just a bureaucratic swamp.
I'm happy for him and his family that he's recovered to the extent he has. It's really quite amazing, and a tribute to those who cared for him every step of the way, as well as to his spirit.
It's well done, except for the annoying sections where they cut in and out rapidly, making it hard to understand what was being communicated. I guess I'm old fashioned that way. To Woodruff's credit, he focused more on the injured soldiers than on his own story.
Prayers for your grandmother and I hope it does not take very long for her to get the care she needs.
Not me...there was a jennifer Garner movie on FX. A13 year old girl wishes she were 30.
I don't need to watch it to know what happens, in the end they will get around to bashing the President.....As usual. As for the VA, I am a retired disabled vet, so I know a little about that, the VA"s problem is what I use to call over committed and under funded, you have to stay on them from day one. In their defence they have treated me great, it just took a while to get my rating.
I never watch Oprah but had seen a promo that he and his wife would be on, as would David Bloom's widow, so I intentionally watched today, curious to see their stories now that it's further removed and they're all sharing more. I was actually quite surprised then with what he said about the care and how they treated him, and his concern for the soldiers, etc. I'm west coast and haven't seen this special yet, but I was curious to read the thread to see if what he said earlier when they moved a bit broader than his own story was a fluke, or if really might be a pretty decent angle. I'm glad it seems the clip earlier may have been sincere and not just due to editing.
We're getting things straightened out. We found a hospital that she likes better than the VA hospital. The place she's in now has music therapy which she really wanted but couldn't get at the VA hospital.
The VA is beginning to help but it just takes time.
Considering that I've seen how a family has had to handle a son with a brain injury caused by an IED I say that I don't care who delivers the information if it helps these kids and families get more help that works for me.
If you want to help some of these brave soldiers please give money to The Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund. They are usually the first group at the injured soldiers bedside. And they bring something important. Money.
Some give with their lives, some give for the rest of their lives.
Since July of this last year I've been very pleased with the care I've received from V.A. (we'll update if my claim for agent orange comes through).
Every conversation I have had regarding the VA (beginning in 1980), there was never a complaint about the doctors or nurses. The major issues was getting your foot in the door and wading through all the pencil pushers.
We owe these soldiers and their families! Some of them are not being taken care of. That's a fact! I'm pissed to see the head of the VA say they are doing all they can. That is a lie.
I am retired Army. I am a 30% disabled veteran. I was wounded in Vietnam, which is part of my disability. That being said, I have dealt with VA for years. I have had fairly good luck with most of my dealings with them. BUT, the VA contracts out to doctors. I saw a doctor concerning part of my disability, knee damage, and he was a local doctor who worked only on weekends and a day or two a week to see VA patients, and get paid big bucks government tax payer money to loaf around. My examination with him lasted a WHOLE three minutes!!! IN that 3 minutes, he spoke to me about my problem, examined my knee by twisting it a couple of times, and then cut me lose. I did not see him again.
About two months later I receive notice from the VA that my disability claim was denied. I had a right to appeal which I did to the appeals board in Washington, D.C. I completed all the paper work and filed it with the local Seattle VA office (I lived in WA at that time). I then WAITED OVER THREE YEARS for the appeal to be acted on in Washington. Then, after three long years, I received notice that the appeals board had overturned the doctor's findings, and approved my disability.
This doctor, who was just there (in my personal opinion) to pad his pockets and do as little work as possible, caused me to wait over three years. And, it cost me a lot of money that I would have received had the fool given me a favorable report in the beginning. The appeals board said that my health records alone proved my case and that the doctor apparently did not do a good enough exam.
So, in some cases VA sucks. Others they do okay. They are understaffed, and the VA hospitals rely on contract doctors. So, if you have some doctor that barely got out of med school, is boarder line terrible, and no real hospital would have him, he gets hired to work at the VA, and even at active US military hospitals as contract doctors.
((((Hugs))))Just a hug.

It's really good to see how well Woodruff has come back to almost total recovery.
However, the program was very typical lefty bleeding hearts about all the wounded soldiers and supposedly the DOD has told people to keep the wounded numbers quiet.
While I understand why you don't tell your enemy how good a job he's doing wounding your soldiers .. apparently Bob and the guy he was talking to considered that a bad thing .. of course .. telling the enemy all our secrets seems to be okay with these people.
It started out okay .. just documentary type stuff and I was interested in the type of treatment Bob got, etc. But when he started on his brain injury tour, it turned me off.
It's not that I can't see these injuries and understand what a sacrifice these young men and women are making .. it's how ABC handled it. There's very little that's positive about it .. except at the end of the program .. Bob had been following one young man who had a similar injury as Bob's .. and while ABC seemed to enjoy showing how the VA screwed up his care .. the last few scenes were of the young man finally receiving the local treatment that he needed.
I keep hoping people like Bob will have a more profound epiphany after such a major injury .. an awakening and a reality check like no other. I'm not expecting instant conservatism .. LOL .. but something more like common sense along with a grateful heart.
Who knows .. someone like Woodruff could have such a revelation that he might end up changing the whole dynamic of ABC.
Well .. I don't trust most media people (on the left), but this appears to be a case of "putting his money where his mouth is" and for the sake of our wounded soldiers, I'm very grateful.
I believe this organization will help many of our seriously wounded to end up with a more meaningful life than could have been accomplished without Bob's help.
I agree. That picture of the soldier with the head wound is heartbreaking.
They didn't have anything good to say and that bald guy who is some Vet pissed me off as well. He trashed the VA and said the Gov't didn't have a clue.
Well, my answer to him is that there are hundreds of thousands on Vietnam Vets using the VA who are getting the treatment they need (Post Dramatic Stress) and they are dying off so 10,000 or 20,000 Iraq Vets won't break the system like he claims.
Also, there's not too many hospitals that are in small towns that can handle these types of brain injuries so don't expect the VA to have the care in these areas either !
I've been going to the VA for 5 years now and I go at least once every 3-4 months and there's never any Iraq War vets there and they are all older men with a few women.
The VA system isn't broken and it's still slow to get our troops into the system after the return from Iraq but that's the Gov't and it's going to be slow no matter what.
