Hip Hop Serving Up Plan for Failure - Black Youth Need to Break Free of Prison Culture

What to do? That's the only thing left to ponder now that the hot mess that was NBA All-Star Weekend has left us with no choice but to deal with a problem that has been fomenting for 20 years.

Prison culture swallowed hip-hop culture, turning party music into a celebration of violence, hostility, disrespect and drug-dealing.

Prison culture created the Black KKK and negated much of the progress won by the civil-rights movement.

We can no longer afford to live in denial of these realities, and we must formulate a game plan to combat the self-destructive culture that is influencing too many young black men and women.

I offer no apologies for putting these issues on the table publicly. If anything, I apologize for waiting too long.

Oprah sez: "I became so frustrated with visiting inner-city
schools that I just stopped going. The sense that you need to learn just
isn't there. If you ask the kids what they want or need, they
will say an iPod or some sneakers. In South Africa, they don't ask for
money or toys. They ask for uniforms so they can go to school."

She's right to have given up on young black Americans, and I've given up on 'em, too. Lead a horse to water, but he still may not care to partake. Pearls before swine, eh, Jesu?

Maybe Cosby had more of an effect than I thought. People like Sowell and Williams have been saying these things forever, but young blacks don't listen to conservatives, especially conservative blacks. A few more like this and maybe, just maybe, black America has a chance to survive itself.

Except, the black crime explosion began long before rap, the questions are: when did it begin and how did it fit into the larger social and political context, specifically what did those in power do or not do during the rise of this phenomenon. Black bad behavior is tolerated, even praised, by the establishment because it fits into their own plans, or at least doesn't disrupt them. It thrives in an atmosphere of political correctness. If rap had originated among poor white Appalachians it would have been mocked out of existence by now. If white southern athletes had started dancing in the end zone they would have been savaged by the press and public, culturally and biologically. There's another thread about a black woman politician in Florida wanting a program to "save black men." What this woman doesn't understand is the connection between her racial and leftist politics and black crime. When you talk to these thugs, or listen to gangster rap, what comes across is the fact that these criminals feel themselves to be part of a racial militia, to be some sort of freedom fighters, and to varying degrees they are backed up in that belief by the black population on the whole, by black politicians, and by the liberal establishment. As long as that is true, not much will change.
