Six million Christian children to pray for Israel on Purim

Inspired by a kabbalist rabbi, an Evangelical leader from Ft. Worth, Texas, plans to enlist the "pure hearted prayers" of six million Christian children worldwide to protect the Jewish people from the Iranian nuclear threat.

The prayer rally will take place before Purim, a holiday that commemorates the redemption through divine intervention of the Jewish people from an evil Persian ruler about 2,500 years ago. Purim starts on Saturday evening.

Michael D. Evans, best-selling author of The American Prophecies: Ancient Scriptures Reveal Our Nation's Future, said on Monday evening that the inspiration for his idea from a report in The Jerusalem Post.

"After reading about Rabbi [David Batzri's] campaign to enlist 10,000 children to pray that God annul [Iranian President Mahmoud] Ahmadinejad's plans for the destruction of the Jewish people, I said to myself, 'Why stop at 10,000?'" Evans said in a telephone interview from his Jerusalem hotel room.

"The number six million is a reminder to Christians that never again must we allow a Holocaust," he said. "And since the young suffer most in times of catastrophe, it is fitting that children should be the ones praying."

Evans, who heads the Jerusalem Prayer Team, an Internet-based initiative to encourage Christian prayer for the State of Israel, said that Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell would undoubtedly join forces to muster the 6 million young prayers. Evans said that there were approximately 1 billion evangelical Christians worldwide.

Rabbi Yitzhak Batzri, son of David, welcomed the initiative.

"Hopefully, it will awaken the entire world to the Iranian threat," said Batzri. "If the goyim have come to the realization that we are in danger, maybe the Jews in the Diaspora will finally wake up."

It would also be nice if millions of Christians would pray that muslims around the world would take Jesus into their hearts. When Ann Coulter said to convert them all to Christianity, she proposed the only real answer to peace in this world.

Because we are directed to so celebrate in the last Chapter of Esther. It's a party to celebrate God's deliverance and faithfulness.

Because it's a huge celebration and party. There are carnivals and people dress in costume, eating poppy seed filled treats like hamantashen (triangular cookies) and drinking alcoholic beverages.

In synagogue the book of Esther is read, and children are given noisemakers so they can boo Haman and cheer Mordechai.

Think of it as a sort of Jewish Mardi Gras in appearance, but, obviously, not for the same reasons. :)

So, Sat evening is, say, 7:00 PM, Tel Aviv time, and that's what, 11:00 AM, EST?

So add 7 hours to take it to 2:00AM T-A time, and that'll be 6:00 PM EST.

So President Bush has to call a quicky-news-conference at 5:30 PM, EST, to announce the start of the eradication bombing of Persia.

Works for me! Time enough to take the cars over to 7-11 and top 'em up.

Well that sounds like fun! I wish we did that at our church (after all, we do passover seders!). Plus I have always loved the Esther story, ever since I had it as a flannel board lesson in the church basement during lent....wonder how long ago *that* was? ;-)

Doesn't matter - Jewish holidays start at sundown - wherever you happen to be, so sundown in Jerusalem is not sundown in Los Angeles.

There's also a "need to see three stars with once glance" rule, but I'm not sure how often that's adhered to among the non-Orthodox. I've never figured out how that works on a cloudy night anyway.

Also, up until sundown (where sundown occurs in your locale), it will still be the Sabbath, which takes precedence.

Well that sounds like fun! I wish we did that at our church (after all, we do passover seders!).

I wonder if you use my Haggadah for your seders - I wrote one back in 1994 called "The Simple Seder," which was in English and transliterated Hebrew (no Hebrew alef bet knowledge required). It was a big seller at churches because it was very explanatory and not terribly long or complicated, and, of course, it was mostly in English. I even threw in some recipes.

Hmm - maybe I should reissue it....

Right! I looked it up - EST is + 7 hrs on Tel Aviv, and + 8&1/2 hrs on Tehran.

So when it's 7:00 PM in Tel Aviv, it's NOON in the EST zone. So, if the bombing commences at 3:30 AM, Tehran time, the announcement from Washington happens at 7:00 PM, EST.
