Coalition Forces in Iraq Kill Four Terrorists, Capture 67

American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, March 29, 2007 – Coalition forces in Iraq this week killed four suspected terrorists, captured 67 others and netted scores of weapons in various operations, military officials reported.
In Iraq today:

-- After receiving fire from a group of armed terrorists in Mosul, coalition forces returned fire and killed four enemy fighters. Troops also detained two suspects allegedly involved in several improvised-explosive-device attacks in the area.

-- During an operation in Baghdad, coalition forces detained nine suspected terrorists allegedly involved in al Qaeda-related foreign fighter facilitation.

-- Forces raided a foreign fighter safe house northwest of Haditha, netting two suspects.

-- During a raid south of Fallujah targeting al Qaeda finance operations and foreign fighter facilitation, coalition forces detained two suspects.

“Successful coalition operations continue to disrupt al Qaeda in Iraq operations, restrict the flow of foreign fighters, and reduce the terrorist organization's manpower pool,” Army Lt. Col. Christopher Garver, a Multinational Force Iraq spokesperson, said.

In Iraq earlier this week, Iraqi and Multinational Division Baghdad forces detained 38 suspected terrorists and discovered an improvised explosive device and five weapons caches south of Baghdad on March 27.

Soldiers of 4th Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army Division and 2nd Battalion, 15th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, participated in Operation Eagle Thunder III, an operation intended to deny terrorists safe haven within the southern region of Iraq.

Two suspects detained in the raid were wanted for ties to terrorism, five were carrying illegal weapons, and four others were in a vehicle that contained an AK-47 assault rifle, four magazines and a hand grenade.

The weapons caches discovered during the operation contained enemy propaganda, an insurgent information booklet, two bags of homemade explosives, a rocket-propelled-grenade launcher with five rockets, a 122 mm projectile, a propane tank, and various small-arms ammunition.

During the operation, troops discovered a command-wired IED near a road close to the al QaQaa weapons facility, southwest of Yusufiyah.

The contents of the cache were destroyed during a controlled detonation conducted by the explosive ordnance disposal team, and the detainees are being held for further questioning.

Elsewhere in Iraq March 27, 2nd Brigade, 8th Iraqi Army Division soldiers and Hillah Iraqi police, worked together to conduct a cordon-and-search operation to confiscate unauthorized weapons, detain 14 insurgents and secure bomb-making materials in Hillah and outlying areas.

More than 700 Iraqi security personnel took part in the operation, and a military transition team from 425th Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, assisted in command and control.

The confiscated weapons included 124 AK-47 assault rifles, 15 various 7.62mm rifles, 15 pistols, one shotgun, 84 AK-47 ammunition magazines and 10 pistol magazines. In addition, 18 sticks of C-4 explosives were found and secured.

The 14 detained insurgents are being held for questioning.

You're welcome Oorang. It was interesting that individual had sufficient curriousity to "check out" the area on his own.

Hometown Jihad: The return of Salah Sultan

Snip: This story was first presented to FrontPage readers in “Hometown Jihad,” where I recounted my finding a Muslim Brotherhood operative, Dr. Salah Sultan, living right around the corner from me and teaching out of the Islamic school, Sunrise Academy, which had set up shop during my absence in the city’s former library building. Sultan is a protégé of Yousef Al-Qaradawi, the Qatar-based spiritual leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, who the Anti-Defamation League has described as “The Theologian of Terror” for his advocacy of HAMAS suicide bombings against Israel and giving religious edicts for Muslims to fight and kill American troops overseas.

Mapping Sharia in Ameria: Knowing the Enemy

Snip: As most of you know, the biggest threat America faces today is from Islamic Jihadists operating all over the world and especially right here in America! Intelligence sources, both public and classified ones, inform us that al Qaeda and many related, affiliated or kindred Muslim terrorist organizations and operational cells are located in the United States. Some are actively planning and preparing for the next major wave of terrorism on our Homeland. Others are “sleeper” cells, biding time and waiting for the right opportunity and command instructions from overseas.

Dying to surrender

Snip: The crazed imams who spew their culture of death to the followers of the jihadi death cult care not one iota for the welfare and well being of the planet. They are motivated only by what they believe Allah requires of them and if that means the use of atomic weapons and other WMDs then so be it.

The word games that Hamas plays

Snip: "I am confident that the siege will be partially broken, which will give our people an opportunity to be prepared for the forthcoming stage." — Khaled Meshaal, Asharq Al-Awsat, February 2.

Has Hamas moderated? Or are the Palestinian Arab organization's leaders following in the footsteps of Yasser Arafat, discussing peaceful intentions in talks with the West while declaring jihad in Arabic?

Al Qaeda, Penny-Pinchers?
New details on al Qaeda's operations reveal the terrorist group to be an apparently budget-conscious organization that closely tracks payments and members.

Glorifying terrorism must be made criminal: House panel

The Ottawa Citizen Wednesday, March 28, 2007

A House of Commons committee has recommended making it a crime to "glorify" terrorism, a proposal critics fear would erode freedom of speech and alienate Muslims. The recommendation would bring Canada in line with a number of countries, including Britain and Spain, that have enacted similar legislation.

"I wonder if France is growing wear of their "youth" yet?"

That's a good question Velvetta and it's not just France.
Youths-ism is spreading.

The other morning, around 3 am or so, I saw an article that described "youths."
I looked at the photo and didn't see "youths." I saw adults 20-40 for the most part. And incredibly, one of the youths was arrested. His age was 32 or 33. I had to go back and reread the article to make sure I was reading it correctly.

The good news is though, that this puts me just a decade (plus a few years) outside of youthdom. LOL

Four Muslims charged with terrorism in Denmark
Thursday, March 29, 2007

COPENHAGEN: Four young Muslims were charged in Denmark on Wednesday with planning terrorist bombings in Denmark or abroad, the justice ministry said. The four men were accused of acquiring chemicals and laboratory instruments to make triacetone triperoxide (TATP) explosives, often used by suicide bombers.

TATP bombs were used in the July 2005 London bombings. The identities of the four were not disclosed. They are residents of Denmark but do not hold Danish citizenship. The men were part of a group of nine people arrested in a September 2006 swoop in Odense in central Denmark.

Iran's Suicide Brigades Terrorism Resurgent

More than five years after President George W. Bush's declaration of a global war against terrorism, the Iranian regime continues to embrace suicide terrorism as an important component of its military doctrine. In order to promote suicide bombing and other terrorism, the regime's theoreticians have utilized religion both to recruit suicide bombers and to justify their actions. But as some factions within the Islamic Republic support the development of these so-called martyrdom brigades, their structure and activities suggest their purpose is not only to serve as a strategic asset in either deterring or striking at the West, but also to derail domestic attempts to dilute the Islamic Republic's revolutionary legacy.

Such strategy is apparent in the work of the Doctrinal Analysis Center for Security without Borders (Markaz-e barresiha-ye doktrinyal-e amniyat bedun marz), an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps think tank.[1] Its director, Hassan Abbasi, has embraced the utility of suicide terrorism. On February 19, 2006, he keynoted a Khajeh-Nasir University seminar celebrating the anniversary of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini's fatwa (religious edict) calling for the murder of British author Salman Rushdie. As Khomeini often did, Abbasi began his lecture with literary criticism. He analyzed a U.S. publication from 2004 that, according to Abbasi, "depicts the prophet of Islam as the prophet of blood and violence." Rhetorically, he asked, "Will the Western man be able to understand martyrdom with such prejudice? [Can he] interpret Islam as anything but terrorism?" The West sees suicide bombings as terrorism but, to Abbasi, they are a noble expression of Islam.

Digging for info re Basque separatists....

Basque terrorists maintain presence in Latin America

Snip: ....it is estimated that more than 150 ETA members reside in Latin America. About 100 of these are in Mexico; several dozen are in Venezuela; there are handfuls in Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Uruguay and Argentina; and more than a dozen are believed to be in Cuba. Activities abroad seem mainly focused on raising money for ETA operations and for recruiting. In most of the Latin American countries where they have a presence, the ETA members conduct money-laundering operations and collect "revolutionary taxes" from the Basque residents there. By one report, ETA raises $10 million dollars annually Mexico recently expelled a member of ETA's Vizcaya Commando to Spain, where he appears to have taken part in many terrorist attacks and to have caused 16 deaths.

Dairy recalls milk after 8 children at 2 schools fall ill

Snip: Investigators say they believe that a dairy company employee’s failure to flush cleaning solution from at least one machine contaminated a batch of chocolate milk, sickening eight Connecticut children and forcing a recall in four states.

Officials at the dairy, Guida’s Milk and Ice Cream, expanded a voluntary recall to include all its chocolate milk with an April 13 expiration date, the state’s agriculture commissioner, F. Philip Prelli, said on Thursday. On Wednesday, the company recalled chocolate milk it identified as Product No. 138 after eight children became ill in Old Saybrook.
