My favorite were the "demonstrators" carrying signs comparing Jeb to Hitler.

But the tickets I orginally paid $800 dropped like a rock to $350 and the condo was $427 a night, and I've certainly paid close to that state side.

That's not too bad. Especially the airfare - I assume you got a direct flight from CLT?

If you do HH, you have to to go the Sandestin Hilton. Swell. Just wonderful. My husband's band plays down there sometimes!

I'm "reloading" right now...another year and I'll have enough for 6 more nights. Thanks for the tip - I'll definitely keep that in mind.

As an aside, people worry about this forum being destroyed...you and I fought battles that compared to this one years ago, and look at us now. I have no doubt the forum will come back together after the primary.

That falsehood is an unsuccessful attempt to change the subject.

Ain't a falsehood. Rudy was a gun-grabber. Supported CFC. Restricted protests excessively. And pushed for federal gun-control laws to overrule state laws.

So that two strikes against the First, one against the 2nd, and one against the 10th. Just for starters.

Politics is intimately connected with compromise. Without compromise war and violence is the sure result.

You are confusing compromise with being compromised. Asking socons to support Rudy is not compromise, but a demand for capitulation. Alliances work far better with broad common interests.

Like a tactical retreat is sometimes necessary in order to win wars so political principles will be compromised for a tactical advantage with a view of making the overall strategy successful.

You are not asking for a tactical retreat. But a rout.

Jim, no president we have elected has made a dent against abortion. It's that simple. You can be idealistic and make that one issue your litmus test, I choose not to. At the end, I need to elect a person who will protect our country first. Let's put to bed the menace of Islamic Terror. Abortion is a states right issue...not a Federal issue.

Exactly! Never understood someone being called a draft dodger when they received deferrments that were above board and legal.

The draft dodger bit is over the top. Rudy had normal deferments during college. His occupational deferment lasted 15 months after which he was again classified 1A in Mar 1970. He went through the draft lottery in Dec. 1969 and received #308. His number wasn't reached and his lottery obligation was over at the end of 1970.

I'm out of town so I can't get my list of info to show the complete timeline from beginning to end.

As an aside, I'm a Duncan Hunter fan. But, if Rudy wins the nomination...I'm supporting him...how about you?

For now, I tend to agree, but I am hoping for a more conservative candidate (as to the issues I mentioned, anyway) who retains Giuliani's speaking ability and other qualities. I will say -- blaming no one, really; just happenstance -- that I am disappointed in this top-tier of three candidates, each for different reasons:

1. Giuliani (aces on some issues like debating and post-9/11 management, but absolutely terrible on others as noted);

2. Romney (smart smart smart but ... a lil slick, and seems to have had plastic surgery on his until-recently liberal views on several issues);

3. McCain (heroic war record, has stood strongly for WoT ... but lost me on campaign finance and open borders)

If Rudy were to win, then he'd damn well follow through on his promise to pick Scalia and Alito types. Grr. :P

Supported CFC

All the more reason to support Rudy. I supported chlorofluorocarbons until the environmentalist wackos sought to outlaw it some 20 years ago.

Hatred is NOT what Americans are looking for - making everyone into an enemy. They are looking for someone to bridge the divide and say what a great country we are - without hubris.

"Millions of Americans help across our nation and across our globe. To our international critics I say: When you had floods the Americans were there. Asking for nothing, taking nothing, only helping. When you had fires and earthquakes and tsunamis, the Americans were there. When you had disease Americans brought medicine, when you were hungry, the Americans brought food. When you were attacked, Americans left the safety of their homes to defend you. Sometimes the Americans came under their government, but many times they just came because of the goodness of their hearts. America is great because America is good."

Asking socons to support Rudy is not compromise

Show me a socon who can win and we can talk.

Until DH breaks 10% in national polling thats a non-starter.

It's not my fault you don't have a candidate this go-round.

You should have told George Allen to lose the frat boy, cowboy act and to stand up to W on spending. Then we'd have something to discuss.

Jim, no president we have elected has made a dent against abortion. It's that simple.

Bush II nominated two judges who very well could help overturn Roe. So in the decades-long chessmatch over Roe, it goes a long way to eventually making this a state issue again where a dent CAN be made.

Quite frankly, I do not trust Rudy to appoint "strict constructionists", given that during his political tenure as mayor he showed very little appreciation for the concept.

So the next Prez IS a big deal for doing something about abortion.

Oh, and Clinton vetoed two PBA bans. Bush signed the one put in front of him.

Rudy supported Clinton's veto.

You probably don't think 3,000 PBA abortions stopped out of 3 million is a big deal. Yet 3,000 people dying during 9-11 IS a big deal.

So it is vital we nominate a president who will carry on BOTH fights.

It was like this when we all came out for Bush in 1999, too. I just worry that the newer people don't understand that.

Speaking of reloading, I am having a "wedding celebration" for my niece at a Hilton in Raleigh at the end of the month. 1 point per $1 I spend; I am a happy travelers, shoving my husband back out on the road!
