I get the point. Check if it's been posted already! Thanks.

Interesting choice of word: pragmatic. Because if nothing else, Rudy Giuliani is pragmatic.

The definition of "conservative" has been hijacked just like the definition of "liberal".
To: mad_as_he$$
Hey, watch it Pardner. Me and millions of other good conservative republicans live in that pit...smile when you say that.

I watched him in news conferences leave the New York liberal press sputtering. He will be very good with the David Gregorys, Tim Russerts and other media Yorkies.

Whereever did you hear that Rudy Giuliani believed that?

I will support the winner of the Republican primaries regardless. If it is (former) Mayor Guiliani, I will vote for him.
I sincerely pray it is not Senator McCain.
I will vote for (former) Governor Romney and support him should he wins the nomination and/or the election.
It will be interesting to see who the candidates will choose as their running mates.
To: TommyDale
He's most likely liberal on immigration too, just like President Bush and Senator McCain.

We've had numerous pro life presidents...the issue hasn't budged. Right now we're in a life and death struggle to preserve our nation. Rudy has staked out a position that I agree with: Go on offense against the Radical Islamic terror organizations. They have been attacking us for decades and this struggle is epic. It is historic. And up to now only President Bush has responded by taking the fight to the enemy. Rudy will take the fight to the enemy.
As you can see, for me, the social issues will have to wait.

How would you assess George W Bush, the conservative? And his impact on core conservative issues like immigration, government spending, education department, tariffs and so on?

I support Rudy. But, if it came down to it...I'd support Newt, Romney, and any other republican. Period. Except for McCain. (I'm not THAT unprincipled!)

...if nothing else, Rudy Giuliani is pragmatic. I don't think you can be a successful Republican mayor of New York without pragmatism. Basically, I think he understands that government can only do a few things well, and that is how he governs. He picks hard, but winnable, fights and sets high expectations. He concedes the less important issues to the majority, and that's why he is in trouble with the social conservatives. They don't consider abortion less important than pulling NYC out of the ashheap. But even if he wanted to, could he have succeeded in outlawing abortion in New York? Or even stopped public funding? No way.
I think we are in for a turbulent time in the next few years. As I see it, we need a President with the toughness and imagination to stop the seemingly inevitable atomic weapon from going off in Tel Aviv. Bush has the toughness, but lacks the imagination. Hopefully, Rudy will be given the opportunity to try his hand and will do better.

[.. (And as an added benefit: he'll be going on offense against Radical Islamic groups...Rudy is going to take them down like he took down the mob!) ..]
What are you smoking?..
The MobS still owns NYC.. all of them..
Italian, Isreali/Jewish, Russian, Mexican/latin, Middle eastern..
And the big one... the democrat party mob..

Now they are all half baked and RINO or flat ass liars. So you are saying Rick Santorum, George Allen and Jim Talent got beat because they were RINO's?

"I guess I just don't understand what a conservative is anymore. Somehow the definitions have changed, and "electable" carries more weight than ideology."I'm sensing that you understand exactly what a conservative is and understand further who is not a conservative in this race. Principle still counts, as much as 'they' are trying to convince everyone that winning the election is all that matters.

So will I aligncare. I'd even vote for McCain. But then again I am a traiterous liberal and a Marxist (that's a new one from today). :-)

That's absolutely perfect. I could not have said it better.
