Purim - which celebrates the miraculous salvation of the Jews and the thwarting of Haman's genocidal plot - has traditionally symbolized the victory of the Jewish people over anti-Semitic tyranny. As such, Purim is a happy, carnival-like holiday. (AP Photo/Sebastian Scheiner, Pool)

Victory celebrations just warm your heart!
Either that, or our Christian prayer to turn his heart.
A joyous Purim to our beloved elder brethren!
The kids are adorable, especially your granddaughter(s?). And the parade looked like fun...well, except for one thing. The riders need beads to throw.
Happy Purim to you and yours, God bless.
Oh well, in any case, you(pl) all know I'm talkin' to you too.
My best regards on this happy day,
Thanks for the thread.
BTW, your granddaughter is adorable, Alouette.
I'd also like to add the bravery of Esther. She came before the king, without being summoned, which was normally a capital offense, to plead for her peoples' salvation.
beautiful pics! your grandkids look adorable!
we just got back from the festivities at the
temple. a fabulous time was had by all! :)
HAPPY PURIM Alouette!
Est 9:28 And [that] these days [should be] remembered and kept throughout every generation, every family, every province, and every city; and [that] these days of Purim should not fail from among the Jews, nor the memorial of them perish from their seed.
Est 9:31 To confirm these days of Purim in their times [appointed], according as Mordecai the Jew and Esther the queen had enjoined them, and as they had decreed for themselves and for their seed, the matters of the fastings and their cry.
Blessed be these days and blessings of the Lord Our God to all who heed his words.
I sure am tired of folks like that.....A Happy Celebration to all freepers of the Jewish faith!
Ah Freilachen Purim!!
1)Purim is the only day in the year in which it is permitted to dress in the clothing of the opposite sex. On every other day of the year it is strictly forbidden. So please, no freaking of the guy dressed as Marge.
2)Purim is not observed by the liberal "branches of Judaism" because it involves nasty things like killing the bad guys instead of having "talks" and singing Kumbayah with them. This makes it interesting to note that apparently in Israel Purim is celebrated even by the secular population.
3)Alouette, your grandaughter is absolutely darling!!! Mazzal tov to your family!
Anti-Semites have already been claiming that gentile blood is used in Hamantaschen, though I don't know how long that one's been around.
Oh, by the way y'all, I just wanted to register that I am highly offended that Purim isn't celebrated publicly in every city that has a public m*rdi gras or "St. Patrick's Day" parade. What is this, a chr*stian theocracy??? In the place of the fascism and exclusivity of these Southern Baptist holidays, Purim celebrates inclusion and tolerance and secularism and the fact that no one has an exclusive claim to truth and that true believer always wind up killing people (which is why they should all be killed before they can kill someone!), and illustrates that all cultures are welcome in America--not just white chr*stians, but Chinese, and the Roma, and Australian aborigines, and Mongolians, and Berbers, and Circassians, and Albanians, and Lapps, and the most oppressed and therefore "Jewish" people in the world, Hispanic Catholics and Black Fundamentalist Protestants!
Oh, wait a minute . . . that's right . . . the only offensive chr*stian holiday is 12/25, and Chanukkah is the only Jewish holiday worth celebrating publicly. Oh well. My mistake!
Happy e*ster, everyone!!!
End sarcasm. We now return you to our everyday frame of mind.
Happy Purim to y'all!
Hopefully this will be the last Purim we will have to be concerned about Ahmedinejad!
Beautiful grand daughters.
How beautiful is your granddaughter, and thank you for the ping!
--isn't it ironic that there is a Haman in Persia today who wants to destroy the Jews?
"In each and every generation they rise up against us to destroy us, but the Holy One, Blessed Be He, saves us from their hands." --Haggadah of Passover.
What beautiful (grand)children!
Happy Purim and may God bless Queen Esther for her courage! And may God grant the Jews a new savior from today's "Haman".
Isn't it ironic that last week my bible opened up to the Book of Esther?
Those are TWO of my very beautiful, brilliant and extraordinarily talented granddaughters, at their young age, spreading the Word of G-D in MOSCOW, RUSSIAN FEDERATION (formerly USSR).
Happy Purim to you, too! It just happens that my Sunday School class is currently studying the book of Esther. I have read the story before, but haven't studied it in detail.
How did you say, "I am bursting with pride" in Hebrew again? I recall you mentioning the transliteration here before.
Happy Purim to all Jewish FReepers!
Awwwwww, I love the pictures!
You're granddaughters are beautiful!
Isn't it a testimony to Ronald Reagan that you could show us those lovely children from Moscow! That was my first thought...
I am not up on this one but Happy Day.
Yesh li harbeh nachat!!
What cute photos! May Israel's enemies hang higher than Haman! Mazel Tov!
Looks like good fun.
Feast of Purim
Today is the Jewish feast of Purim, celebrating an incident that took place some 2,500 years ago. It is recounted in the Book of Esther.
It is a story of intrigue at the royal palace in Persia. The pagan king, angry at his queen, deposed her and put Esther, a Jewish woman in her place. Meanwhile, a powerful member of the royal court had concocted a plot to have the king in a single day kill all the Jews living in Persia. The date for this massacre was chosen by casting lots which is why Purim is sometimes called the Feast of Lots.
Esther decided to go to the king and plead for her people. In doing so she risked her life, for to enter the kings presence univited was punishable by death. She went ahead anyway and succeeded in saving her people.
Before entering the kings presences she said a prayer:
My Lord, you alone are God. Help me, who am alone and have no help but you, for I am taking my life in my hand. Be mindful of me, Or Lord. Give me courage. Put in my mouth persuasive words in the presence of the lion, and help me, who am alone and have no one but you, O Lord.
Freilichen Purim! Hope you had a nice seudah.
Adorable grandchildren and really well done costumes!!
Chag Purim to you too! And wouldn't that be nice to dream our current Haman meets his gallows before next Purim!
Happy Purim All!
