You just hit the nail why I prefer Michelle over Ann. The former is focused and articulate, while the latter argumentative and bombastic. I however like Ann's books. She's impeccable when citing her sources.

Michelle isn't nearly as quick on her feet in a debate on an issue of the day as Ann is. I've seen Michelle get beaten up too often against a lefty on TV.
Ann is much better at framing arguments and going head to head with an oponent live. And she throws in a few cute lines, too.
However, I do like MM a lot and enjoy her work and her blog.
As far as the joke, I believe that Ann owes a big apology to all the homosexual men in this country for comparing John Edwards to them.
