Finneran’s quip no ‘hit’ with Howie
Boston Herald ^ | 3/5/07 | Laurel Sweet

Posted on 03/04/2007 10:43:51 PM PST by raccoonradio

It backfired as hit man humor and now Herald columnist Howie Carr wants Tom Finneran behind bars for a tongue-in-cheek threat to have him whacked and stuffed in the trunk of Gov. Deval Patrick’s Cadillac.

“Real men don’t talk about putting people in trunks, they just do it,” Carr sniffed yesterday of the former Democratic House speaker, who traded up a felony conviction for a plum gig hosting WRKO-AM’s morning talk show.

Last week, Finneran told Patrick on the air that the two of them should take “Howie Carr for a ride,” and “only two will come back.”

Calling the exchange “disturbing,” Carr is firing off a letter today to Richard G. Stearns, the federal judge who in January sentenced Finneran to 18 months’ unsupervised probation for pleading guilty to obstruction of justice.

“I think (Stearns) ought to send (Finneran) to jail,” said WRKO evening radio show host Carr. “That’s where he belonged in the first place and this just reiterates it.”

Patrick was the in-studio guest of “Finneran’s Forum” Wednesday. On the same day a never-before-seen photo of 1976 Irish mob victim Richie Castucci’s final resting place in the blood-soaked trunk of his Cadillac appeared in the Herald.

Patrick, meanwhile, has been under fire for leasing a luxury Cadillac DeVille as his state ride.

“Hey, I’ve got a proposal for the governor,” Finneran piped up. “The governor and I are going to take Howie Carr for a ride. Three will leave, only two will come back. We’ll take a little pool on who it is.”

As Patrick initially chuckled in the background, Finneran pulled state police into the bit.

“And by the way,” Finneran told listeners, “the staties are here and these are good guys. They ain’t going to be talking, either. I know. So it will be three in the car who leave, only two will come back. No questions will be asked.”

When it appeared the joke had gone too far, Patrick and one other unidentified male sternly interjected, “Behave, behave.”

Yesterday, Patrick’s spokesperson said it was all a joke.

“I think the governor as well as the listening audience took it for what it was - a joke,” said Kyle Sullivan. Finneran could not be reached for comment yesterday.

Interesting that staties were present during a radio show puff piece.

Patrick said he won't have the staties invilved in arresting illegal immigrants in the state because they don't have time.

>>he won't have the staties invilved in arresting illegal immigrants in the state because they don't have time.

the real reason is that he doesn't want his potential voters arrested (and who knows some of them may have wound up on the voting rolls already somehow...)

Did Finnerman call Howie a faggot? No? Then what's the big deal? Murder is jokingly threatened all the time.

"RKO probably loving this....the controversy may get them ratings!"

You could not be more wrong, Finneran is a convicted felon, convicted of lying to a grand jury... sound familiar? Anyway, what does WRKO do, they hired this sleaze bag to become their spokesman for the prime time morning commute!

This guy lies under oath and what does WRKO do? They rewarded this creep to pontificate morality and politics on the issues of the day. Needless to say, I have been an avid WRKO listener for well over a decade and after firing off numerous e-mails to the station, I and my family have quit listening (I now pick up Howie on the free internet feed and staunchly refuse to listen to WRKO or purchase ANYTHING from ANY of the sponsors of Tom Finneran's broadcast. I will continue to do this unless and until, they fire this sleazy guy.

This is NOT good for box office, OR for ratings; it sends ALL the wrong messages; break the law and you are viewed as somone important whose views and opinions people should listen to. On top of that we will give you your own talk show and PAY you to give us your views on the law, morality, the issues of the day and politics to thousands of your listeners....

No thank you, if you or I (one of the "little people" did what this man has done, we would be doing hard time in prison and when we got our we would be lucky if we could get a job at McDOnald's.

What Finneran said about Howie, was a thinly veiled threat. It wasn't a joke, if this man had the ability to, he would bury Howie, because Howie has told the truth about "Tommy Taxes" for years and Finneran hates him for doing so.

My dial's stuck on WRKO because of Howie Carr's show.

I've just gotten used to listening to the various morning hosts who have passed by (the Divas, Peter Blute, Scott Allen Miller, dePetro, etc.) but I can't say I've ever heard Finneran except for the occasional stint last year. Since threats on Howie's life aren't unknown, WRKO shouldn't tolerate such "jokes".

Forget Finneran...with another election year coming up, it's time WRKO hire that fire-breather, Steve Malzberg!

BTW: WRKO's exemplary news broadcaster, Rod Fritz, is now heard at WFLA (Central-Florida area). I've heard Scott Allen Miller, but have forgotten where he went.

WRKO is bleeding talent (heck, the entire state of Massachusetts is bleeding talent), but it's Florida's gain.

Except Finneran is a convicted felon who is prohibited from committing another crime during his parole.

I don't know if you are aware how many dead bodies that we know about are attributable to Whitey Bulger, whose brother Billy, ran the state legislature. And the state. And if I recall correctly, Finneran has ties to Billy. And Deval Patrick made sure to meet with Billy before the election.

Howie knows the local political crime scene better than anyone. He's in a good position to make a case.

I was thinking that you might want to read this when I checked out the Herald this morning, and I am glad that you found it too.

If you knew the history of Massachusetts and knew Howie's roll in exposing it and keeping it in the limelight you would be saying that.

Here's just a tiny hint of what I'm taking about...the brother of the former Majority Leader of the Massachusetts is on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted List and is believed to have killed scores of people.

If you want details, read Howie's book "The Brothers Bulger".It will send chills down your spine.

Oh,and BTW,Finneran was the Speaker of the Massachusetts House while Bulger was Senate Majority Leader. They were, you might say,"thick as thieves".

It was sarcasm, stated in the context of the weepily sanctimonious reactions to Ann Coulter's joke, the Huffington posters who wished that Cheney had been assassinated, and, in particular, faggot Maher's statement that the world would be better off if Cheney had been killed. What I said required no knowledge of Massachusetts history.

Patrick said he won't have the staties invilved in arresting illegal immigrants in the state because they don't have time.

Of course, the MA Staties "don't have the time" to do their jobs: their union got laws passed that keep them busy acting as flagmen on road construction jobs.

MA has no flagmen -- but every road job (no mattter how small) does have lots of high-paid State Troopers -- sitting in their idling, expensive, heavily-equipped State cruisers "providing security" -- on high-priced overtime!

Talk about union graft and "featherbedding"!!!
