"A young white nymphomaniac (Ricci) tries to get "cured" of her problem with the help of an older black blues man (Jackson)."
You mean this love story doesn't interest you? :-)

I've waited a year for this movie.

I was actually around for the filming in North Mississippi. Recchi is a prima donna to the tilt! Not really sure why?
But ... no ... lol ... think I'll pass on that one!

Can someone help me out? I seem to recall TV ads for this a few months ago -- and I swear that there were Trolls (or something) involved in the fighting.
I know a thing or two about Thermopylae and I'm pretty sure there were no trolls at that battle. Was I seeing things? My fear at the time was that Hollywood had decided that the battle might be "too boring" without CGI monsters.

Thermopylae had nothing to do with the Pelopennesean Wars.

You and me both. Besides Casino Royale this is the movie I have been looking forward to most for about the last year and a half.

"Spartan king who would defend freedom at any cost"
He was defending perhaps the larger Hellenic culture, but Sparta itself was hardly a free society. It was Geriocentric, autocratic, had a caste system of slavery, was xenophobic, and was highly regimented. It had many practices that have more in common with North Korea than say, the United States.
That said, this is a "graphic novel" (comic book) version of events and has to be ruthlessly condensed and simplified. Here Spartans = good, persians = bad, Spartan king versus Persian Emperor.

As is typical, the Left doesn't know what it's talking about.

Well aware of it. You'll notice I said that both were studied.

I'll go see any movie with Gerard Butler. Haven't seen Casino Royale unfortunately.

I could watch Gladiator every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Russell Crowe may have an influence in that. I thought this movie looks pretty darned cool in the promos.

Thermopylae had nothing to do with the Pelopennesean Wars.He didn't necessarily mean that the two were connected. Just that they are two conflicts from the ancient world involving Sparta that are still studied in war colleges. If he had said Thermopylae and Waterloo, he probably would not have meant that they were connected either.

If you go to youtube you can watch the trailer for this new film. Its styling is very much like "Sin City". Interesting to look at, but not too traditionally accurate in presentation.
