Trinity United Church of Christ/Religion New Service
Senator Barack Obama with the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr. in a
2005 photograph.
CHICAGO, March 5 The Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., senior pastor of the popular Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago and spiritual mentor to Senator Barack Obama, thought he knew what he would be doing on Feb. 10, the day of Senator Obamas presidential announcement.
After all, back in January, Mr. Obama had asked Mr. Wright if he would begin the event by delivering a public invocation.
But Mr. Wright said Mr. Obama called him the night before the Feb. 10 announcement and rescinded the invitation to give the invocation.
Fifteen minutes before Shabbos I get a call from Barack, Mr. Wright said in an interview on Monday, recalling that he was at an interfaith conference at the time. One of his members had talked him into uninviting me, Mr. Wright said, referring to Mr. Obamas campaign advisers.
Some black leaders are questioning Mr. Obamas decision to distance his campaign from Mr. Wright because of the campaigns apparent fear of criticism over Mr. Wrights teachings, which some say are overly Afrocentric to the point of excluding whites. snip...
When his enemies find out that in 1984 I went to Tripoli to visit Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi, Mr. Wright recalled, with Farrakhan, a lot of his Jewish support will dry up quicker than a snowball in hell. Mr. Wright added that his trip implied no endorsement of either Louis Farrakhans views or Qaddafis.
Mr. Wright said that in the phone conversation in which Mr. Obama disinvited him from a role in the announcement, Mr. Obama cited an article in Rolling Stone, The Radical Roots of Barack Obama.

Why is Obama ashamed to acknowledge his "religion"?
Either his church has problems (some consider it a racist organization), or he is not a true believer.
Perhaps both.

IMO you are reading this wrong. This is Obama's church, his bona fides as a Christian. It is also much more like a far-left, Bush-bashibg, hate-America PAC than it is a Christian congregation. One viewing of their televised services proves this in twenty foot neon letters.
There is also the 'racist' aspect but considering that they are a Black organization whose stated mission is the betterment of 'their' community no one should be surprised or even offended that their web message is replete with 'afro-centric' verbiage.

Could it be that the writer of this article, Jodi Kantor, is the offspring of Mickey Kantor, big wheel in the Clinton administration and partner in former democrat national party chairman Chuck Manatt's law firm?
To: billhilly
You may very well be correct, but also please note that Kantor is a fairly common Jewish name.

You would distance yourself from a church that promotes the
Black Value System -- clearly a racist philosophy.
After you read the Black Value System, substitute the word "Black" for "White" to appreciate the racism. If the average white church posted such a value system on their website, Jess and Al would have 5,000 protestors and all the media out front.
On its website, Trinity describes itself as a "congregation which is Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian. Our roots in the Black religious experience and tradition are deep, lasting and permanent. We are an African people, and remain "true to our native land," the mother continent, the cradle of civilization."
Trinity has a non-negotiable commitment to Africa, is committed to the historical education of African people in diaspora and committed to liberation, restoration, and economic parity."
Trinity is
very anti-Israel and supports divestment.
At the UCC General Synod in 2005, the denomination adopted a
resolution calling for equal marriage rights for all, regardless of gender. This includes homosexuals and transgendered individuals.
On October 29, 2006, Dallas's Cathedral of Hope, known as the worlds largest gay church, was accepted into the UCC.

It can have any of four different spellings. It would be interesting to check out this Jody Kantor. The name drives from the position of chazen, or chanter of the prayers in the synagogue and while not rare, it isn't ubiquitous.

Hussein is a confused joke. He was raised by his white mother but now is running as the great Black hope. His Black father was a bigamist and had nothing to do with raising him. His father was just a sperm donor. Some accounts say he (father) was a big drinker who screwed with women until they got wise to him, then moved on to next one. He had the exotic African thing down pat

Senior dies in an alcohol-related car accident in Kenya,
leaving three wives, six sons and a daughter.
One of Senior's former drinking partners, Kenyan writer Philip Ochieng Ochieng
says that his friend's downfall was his weak character.
"Although charming, generous and extraordinarily clever, Obama Sr. was also imperious, cruel and given to boasting about his brain and his wealth," he said.
"He was excessively fond of Scotch. He had fallen into the habit of going home drunk every night. His boasting proved his undoing and left him without a job, plunged him into prolonged poverty and dangerously wounded his ego."
Ochieng recalls how, after sitting up all night drinking Black Label whisky at Nairobi's famous Stanley Hotel, Obama Sr. would fly into rages if Ruth asked where he had been.
Ochieng remonstrated with his friend, saying: "You bring a woman from far away and you reduce her to pulp. That is not our way."
But it was to no avail. Ruth sued for divorce after her husband administered brutal beatings.
In fact he was a menace to life, said Ochieng. "He had many extremely serious accidents. Both his legs had to be amputated. They were replaced with crude false limbs made from iron.
"He was just like Mr Toad [from Wind In The Willows], very arrogant on the road, especially when he had whisky inside. I was not surprised when I learned how he died."
Ruth refused to comment on the abuse charges when we tracked her down to the Kenyan school where she now works.
She said: "I was married to Barack's father for seven years so, yes, you could say Barack is my stepson.
"Barack's father was a very difficult man. Although I was married to him the longest of any of his wives he wasn't an easy person to be around."

But remember the words of Chris Rock, black people don't hate Jews, black people hate white people.
The Jewish people better know their only true friend in the world is the Christian and most of those are the bible thumping type. No matter how much butt you kiss you will always be the one to blame first.
This so called Christian church sounds more like a Muslim church to me. I wonder how often the Gospel of Jesus is preached here?

UCC = Unitarians Considering Christ?
But seriously, it is an extremely loopy, wacked-out denomination. The UCC has been on the cutting edge of heresy and theological weirdness ever since the merger that created the organization in the 1950s. They were among the early promoters of sodomy, abortion and other freaky stuff from the pulpit.
Who can forget their notorious "Bouncer" ads on TV a couple years ago?

6. Q: How much of this is spent by the U.S.? A: 50% [explanation - military expenditures for FY2003 may be $460-470 billion including $378.5 billion for the Pentagon, $15.4 billion for nuclear weapons programs, $3.8 billion for foreign military assistance, $1.4 billion for military-related activities of other agencies, $32 billion for military retirement benefits and health care for current employees, $30 billion for the CIA, plus funding for the Homeland Security Department]By comparison, the US spends nearly $600 billion on a public education system that most Americans acknowledge is failing. So, which is the better investment - $460 - 470 billion for the US military fighting a war that we are winning, or $600 billion for a public school system that has failed?
And, which one is liable to have their funding cut and which is more likely to have more money thrown at it?

Here's a conspiracy theory: Obama is someone who clearly can be destroyed at any time. So Hillary encourages him to run, knowing he'll drain all the oxygen from any serious "anti-hillary" candidate. When it's too late, she'll either take Obama down, or maybe he'll drop out if it's really a plan between the two of them.
To: Pharmboy
People may wonder why many Jews vote democrat.....
But I wonder why Christians do too.
If every Jew voted democrat - that's not enough to elect the democrats to office. Obviously quite a number of Christians are voting democrat too. Some of those Christians are black, some are Hispanic - but many of them are white.
There are a number of mainline Christian churches who are ver liberal.
I wonder why?

What matters to them is that they are Democrats and they are not Republicans. Anything and everything that follows is secondary.
As this forum can attest, there are Republican that share the same views.
