Murtha to give Iraqi government 80 days to fulfill promises

Rep. Jack Murtha is expected to lay out his Iraq plan later this week to the House Defense Appropriations subcommittee, Rep. James Moran, D-Virginia, told CNN Monday.
Murtha will propose initially giving Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki 80 days to "fulfill the promises" he made to the Bush Administration, Moran said. Namely, there must be fair sharing of Iraq's oil revenue between the three main ethnic groups, the Iraqi constitution must be approved, and there must be "sufficient security" in Baghdad.
Murtha's plan calls for redeploying U.S. troops during the subsequence six months after the 80 days expires if the Malaki government does not meet those benchmarks.

mmm, how did he come up with 80 days??? Such a stupid demand when considering there is no basis for why 80 days would be the time frame. Geez, the more Pelosi and Murtha talk the more you sit there and scratch your head and realize just how ignorant and stupid some of the things they do are.

- Baghdad is being secured right now! 80% reduction in violence! DONE!

The ultimatums should be coming from the WH, not Murtha and done in private. I suspect that was what spurred Milaki to throw Sadr under the bus.

It looks as though murtha's senality is progressing rapidly, he now believes he's in charge of foreign relations.

Clearly the Iraqis just need to send over a couple of "Sheiks" to offer al-Murtha some hefty cash bribes and prove they can "do business" with him.

Do they even know what is going on in Iraq!? Yeah. They know. That's the problem. Victory is dangerously close. This is what's making the Defeatocrats desperate.
In addition, as you note, to the political situation coming together...
The insurgency is collapsing, at least as an indigenous movement, instead being increasingly controlled by al Qaeda as previously supportive or noncommittal Sunni tribal leaders turn against it. This presents a double problem for Dims: First in having to admit that the presence of American troops is crucial in order to continue winning over Sunni tribal leaders who still don't quite trust the Shia dominated government, and second in having to admit that the war in Iraq is about al-Qaeda and other foreign jihadis -- i.e. our global enemy -- not about Iraqis hating the "occupier".
Also the Defeatocrats realize that eventually the bulk of our troops will leave. It's as important, if not more important, to fulfilling the "Vietnam" template that our allies fail. Thus the process of publicly hectoring the Iraqi government must begin, to be followed by various other attempts to undermine, deligitimize, dispirit and demoralize.

You should go to his Spring Industry Fair in Johnstown and watch all of the big DOD Contractors kiss his ass and give him checks for allowing him to do business in his lovely city. I must say that the checks are not for him, but for business develoment in the area.

I think this idiot just tripped over his own inflated ego. He does not have the power to do anything on his own. The Senate will put him in his place. Joe is going to spin like a top and come down on the Republican side of the Senate handing the leadership back to the Republicans. It's about time for a major Murtha slap-down and I want a ring side seat!!!!!

A Murtha is not Commander in Chief.
B. He doesn't have the votes for his stupid plan either in the US Senate or even in the US House.

Who in the political arena will take Murtha on? He is a bully that needs to be put in his place. Another job for VP Cheney. He did a good job with Madam Pelosi. I wish Pres. Bush would do it, but the VP is quite capable, if allowed.
