China's spies 'very aggressive' threat to U.S.
Washington Times ^ | March 6, 2007 | Bill Gertz

China's intelligence services are among the most aggressive at spying on the United States, followed by Cuban, Russian and Iranian spy agencies, according to the U.S. government's top counterintelligence coordinator. "These services are eating our lunch," Joel F. Brenner, the new head of the Office of the National Counterintelligence Executive, said in his first interview since being named to the counterspy post in August. Mr. Brenner, a former inspector general at the National Security Agency, told The Washington Times that the U.S. remains the No. 1 target of "virtually every significant espionage service on the face of the Earth." China's intelligence activities have been "very aggressive" at acquiring U.S. advanced technology, often before it is fully developed here. "The technology bleed to China, among others, is a very serious problem," he said, noting that the FBI is improving its efforts to identify and protect sensitive technology. Beijing also succeeded in penetrating, and thus frustrating, U.S. intelligence against China through Katrina Leung, a Los Angeles businesswoman who was a long-time FBI informant secretly loyal to Beijing, Mr. Brenner said. Mr. Brenner's office, known as NCIX, is working on a new presidential strategy for counterintelligence. The goal of the office is to provide strategic direction aimed at bolstering counterintelligence agencies, including the FBI, CIA and Pentagon counterspy units. Another key priority is using counterintelligence techniques, such as turning foreign agents or recruiting supporters, against terrorist groups. "Hezbollah or al Qaeda don't do a terrorist operation without doing an intelligence operation first," Mr. Brenner said. "They are very thorough and capable in the way they do their advance surveillance and reconnoitering.

We have a serious security issue with our Border, illegal immigration, and our VISA program. It is time to step up to the plate in regards to these issues.

Russia's spying program on the US is much larger than it ever was during the Cold War.

After all the ChiCom penetrations of the 90s President Bush's administration should have come in set to make serious efforts to stem the tide. Sadly, indications are that not much was done. The WOT certainly has consumed resources but it cannot be the only reason why this problem has not been addressed after a dozen years of ChiCom theft.

They only need to get their engineering educations from our universities for the most important design tools to update their military forces.

Russia's spying program on the US is much larger than it ever was during the Cold War.

Well, with nearly the entire Demoratic Party working for them, I can see that to be true.

Americans, by and large, are not world traveled, so they are ignorant of this.

so they are ignorant of this.

Yea, well I am getting tired of our ignorance. We got Demorats in the House and Senate now and they don't deserve it.

The only reason they are there is because the rats said no to everything the Republicans put on the table. They blocked everything they could. Then they stood back and called the Republicans inept.

They offered no real ideas to most all issues and they did nothing to deserve to be in power.

Ignorance is going to get us kilt.

You say that as if the Republicans are doing a better job. That's pretty funny.

Yup, I feel that the entire DNC is a front operation for ALL of America's enemies: China, Russia, Cuba, Venuzuela, Iran, etc.

Every time I look at C-Span on TV I wonder just how much info is leaking outta this country via Democrat operatives spies in DC? Also now that the DemonRats control the Committes I can imagine just how much technology and secrets are flying outta this country are soon as they get their paws on them.

We need to move the responsibility for our nations nuclear secrets back to the military and away from the Dept of Energy. Clinton had to make this move to enable him to give our secrets to China. The Pentagon would not play along with his desires so he changed the game and sold us out.

"The technology bleed to China, among others, is a very serious problem,"

Since nobody in the government seems to take the whole security issue seriously at all, (read: Sandy Berger) are we supposed to be surprised by this report?

"They offered no real ideas to most all issues and they did nothing to deserve to be in power".

Yeah, except for winning those pesky elections.

Ignorance is going to get us kilt.
