Right on. I keep reading little stories like this and I think the terrorists are doing these as "probes" to find weaknesses in security. It's pretty scary because these are just the ones they are catching. I wonder how many are not getting caught.

Didn't mean to take the fun out of it for you, but this, in military terminology, is nothing less than a Probe.
Hit the enemy line, find out where his weak points are. Gather an overall view of his force disposition, morale, training, weapons and defenses available so you can plan your attack.
It's intelligence gathering, nothing less.
The crowning irony is that he can be appointed a nice Jewish public defender at taxpayer expense.
