Australia's military ties with Japan worry China

AUSTRALIA and Japan are about to embark on their most wide-ranging military and intelligence-sharing agreement, in a move that is generating concern from Beijing. In the 50th anniversary year of the signing of the post-war Australia-Japan trade pact, Tokyo and Canberra will agree on a joint security declaration that promises to transform defence relations between the two countries. The agreement, to be signed in Tokyo next week by John Howard and his counterpart, Shinzo Abe, is the first the Japanese have sealed with any nation other than the US. It could lead to Japanese troops training in Australia as co-operation on defence issues is stepped up.

The deal also has a strong focus on intelligence-sharing.

Both are free capitalist nations doing trade. Both see China building up its naval forces as a threat. Duh.

Japan is after the US the nation with the most military "potential" on this planet. They have the enabling technology, industry, and access to resources. China is going down a road they might regret!

Man, with their ability to improve and miniaturize things the US develops, can you imagine some of the nifty stuff they could come up with:-)

China knows darn well that neither Japan nor Australia, individually,or a Japanese-Austrailian alliance, represent a threat to her.

The best thing that China can do to ensure peace in East Asia is to send an assassin to take care of their little psychopath friend in North Korea.

If China is worried, that's a good thing. I bet Taiwan isn't upset about this merge either.

No need to send an assassin. The baboon comes to China periodically, and can be conveniently taken care of by waiting at the watering hole. Along the lines of polonium tea, but slower acting - say, some carcinogen.

Everything worries China.

Whether it does or not, they will say that it does, just like the Islamists. It is simply an excuse to build power and claim the moral high ground.
