SAN ANTONIO -- Volunteers from a border patrol watchdog group are monitoring the streets of Kerrville to look out for a suspected child predator.
The volunteers from the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps came to help the Hill Country city after some citizens reported child predator incidents.
A few months ago, in front of a community center, a young girl claimed that someone tried to grab her while she waited for a school bus in the early morning darkness.
Another person reported a similar incident at an apartment complex in February.
Several days after that incident, a 12-year-old girl reported that a flasher exposed himself to her across the street from an elementary school.
The minutemen, armed with cell phones and binoculars, are watching school bus stops in Kerrville.
The minutemen said they're ready to observe and report any suspicious activity in the area.
"Our first attempt would be naturally to call local authorities," said Ernesto Gomez of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps.
Kerrville police said they welcome the extra eyes and ears.
A mother said she's concerned about the incidents but she said she's relieved that someone else is looking out for the children in the town.
Ping!

My newly adopted hometown. I'll have to wave at them when I come in from the hills.
This is a little to close to where I live--hope they don't run the guy out of Kerrville and he ends up here!
I would like to see an adult/parent at every school bus stop. Too bad I couldn't join the effort, as I am a man with no kids in school and therefore would be suspect myself.
I live across the street from a park, occasionaly in the summer time I will walk over there and just sit on a bench for a while. When I do that, it is very noticible that mothers stay closer to their kids.
I want to tell those parents, your kids are safer around me than with some teachers and ministers but I don't, because I fully understand their feelings about strangers and especially men.
Been on FR awhile. When I decided to move I tried to get detailed instructions on how to amend my handle but never succeeded. I see others have drawn out additions so how is that done?
We are very happy up here. The wife is still getting use to the 15 minute drive to town but we can see forever and there is almost a constant breeze.
Check your FR Mail...
Welcome to the Texas Hill Country! I envy you. If my circumstances were different I'd be your neighbour in a heartbeat. As it stands now though I need to stick close to Lawton, Ok. and the legion of doctors I seem to have accrued.
From what I've read on FR in order to change your SN all you have to do is PM JR and request the change. That way you can retain your posting history and sign-up date.
If it were me I'd probably also PM the mods just in case JR accidentally overlooks your PM. Can you begin to imagine the number of PM's JR probably gets? That's why I'd probably also alert the mods though.
