From The Greatest Generation To Self-Annihilation
War of Wits ^ | 9/18/06 | Jayme Evans

In World War II, it wasn't just young men who gave their all. It was women and children. It was W.A.C.s, W.A.S.P.s, and Rosie the Riveter. Kids collected scrap rubber and aluminum for recycling into aircraft parts. There were War Bonds and Civil Air Patrols. The whole nation joined the fight, convinced they'd be speaking German or Japanese if we didn't defeat Nazi tyranny or Japanese Imperialism.

Now we have The Cindy Sheehan Traveling Circus, and Dick Durbin equating the interrogation techniques of US troops to those of Nazi Germany and the Khmer Rouge. We have John Murtha calling Marines "cold-blooded" murderers, and the President of the United States calling citizens who patrol the border during wartime "vigilantes."

Timothy Leary, LSD, and Give Peace a Chance have done more damage to this country than anything in it's entire existence. When the Baby Boomers who answered their country's call in the jungles of Southeast Asia finally did come home, they were spat upon and called all sorts of vile things by their peers. Ironically, there are now yearly reunions in Canada for those who were "brave" enough to refuse orders and flee north.

A sad but true commentary on what political correctness is doing to this country...

After 9/11, I think it would have been helpful if the WH had started a web site about what we as citizens can do to help in the war on terror. Included in that web site should be a list of reading materials so that people know what we're up against.

Western culture can't even seem to articulate why we are fighting against Islamist extremists, let alone why we should win. Sad.

Right you are. That is exactly why the WOT is so distant to the average person. The only people who are really affected by it are those losing limbs and dying or their families.

LOL.

After 9/11 the president insisted on calling Islam a "religion of peace."

If FDR had made a statement like that about Japan or Germany after December of 1941, he would have been chained to his wheelchair and dumped into the Potomac River.

Wouldn't accomplish anything.

Public schools don't want ROTC and make no bones about that. What they are TAUGHT in school is pacifist stuff. They're taught to shun gun - even the sight of them - Ever hear any objections to this by the parents? NO! Because they agree with the leftist position.

Public schools and the left driven media are wearing people down and promoting nonsense. Adults and kids NEVER learned their history in school so they have NO KNOWDLEGE to begin with.

Unlike prior times, people don't actually have to get up and do the dirty work of fighting. So the will to physically do something isn't necessary. Just the will that something be done is necessary.

We are far from that now. Basically, a series of events have to push the people to that point. Since their physical commitment is low, and their moral outrage may be great, the chances that something will be done (while many of us sip out gourmet coffees) is good.

What's different about this enemy and past enemies is that they are invisible. Muslims live around us. We're told they are the "religion of peace" as they wait for the sign to attack us from WITHIN.

It was outrageous calling that a "religion of peace".

Bush is lying to you. He has ALWAYS lied about this.

Bush KNOWS better. He has an undergraduate degree in WORLD HISTORY. He KNOWS Muslims make the crusades look like a rowdy Boy Scout rumble. I am soooooooooooooooo
disappointed with Bush .... . Our borders are OPEN to ILLEGALS and TERRORISTS.

“... I would then have him trace the process of our moral decline, to watch, first, the sinking of the foundations of morality as the old teaching was allowed to lapse, then the rapidly increasing disintegration, then the final collapse of the whole edifice, and the dark dawning of our modern day when we can neither endure our vices nor face the remedies needed to cure them.....of late years wealth has made us greedy, and self-indulgence has brought us, through every form of sensual excess, to be, if I may so put it, in love with death both individual and collective...” TITUS LIVIUS 59 B.C. You mean a series of events like another 757 missile, or a few human bombs detonating in shopping malls??

After 9/11 the president insisted on calling Islam a "religion of peace."

That moronic statement by President Bush set us back years in facing up to the threat of Islam. He is the commander in Chief and the his military subordinates, and others appointed by him politically, are not likely to call him on it.

The problem with facing up to Islam, is you have to do something unpleasant to halt it, if you want to survive.

Islam like cancer is not going away by itself if left unchecked. - Tom

Let's hope not...

I still believe our government is not going to be able to save us once the fight does come here.

It'll be your average redneck, and his concealed-carry permit that will be our salvation at that point, let's be serious. No politician is going to protect this country FOR REAL

In the age of the Internet we can see what is happening around the world in seconds, we can listen to world opinion in seconds.....what we fail to see is what is going on in our own backyards.

And also --in my opinion-- why the Geneva Conventions are out the window... Why on Earth would we stick to a set of rules that our emeny admittedly scoffs at?

To show how compassionate we are? That'll be great when your head is being separated from the rest of your body with a rusty pocketknife. Jesus said turn the other cheek, not "expose the jugular"..

Don't kid yourself into thinking that this is a modern phenomenon. Even in the Civil War there were draft riots and pro-slavery, anti-war Copperheads.

In WWII, anti-war activities were strongly suppressed, such as the Phoenix, AZ, anti-draft riot by blacks who felt they were being drafted in disproportionate numbers. The government response was to call out the national guard and machine gun the asphalt in front of the protesters, showering them with chunks of pavement. Then the news of the event was buried by the local newspaper. No record of casualties. It only came out in the 1960s, when a reporter who had been there was allowed to describe it in detail.

When communists or other unreliables were drafted, they were often shipped to the Aleutian Islands to keep them from agitating, disrupting, or otherwise interfering with the war effort. It was also the dumping ground for individuals who discussed classified information when drunk and other such sins.

The non-draftable communists were also pestiferous. Initially they railed against Nazis, until Hitler signed his pact with Stalin. Then the American communists did a 180 degree turn and fully embraced Nazism as a good thing.

Then when Hitler invaded Russia, the American communists went back to ranting against Hitler. You can see where their loyalties were then, just as you can see where their loyalties are today.

Many such villains spent four years in a federal penitentiary for refusing to be drafted. It was the standard punishment, and well deserved.
