Well, the salient point is that the poles have not been free of ice sheets (over land) for hundreds of millions of years...

...and should it happen again soon, there will be a lot more than CO2 to worry about...

The TAR concludes that there will probably be about a 19" rise over the rest of the century...and that there might be a drop of as much as 7" - which is about as likely as a rise of about 36". Not that I consider the report remotely definitive, but rather it is a good example of the pro-AGW sides actual predictions. The idea that it'll be up to anyones grandkids necks in a location that isn't already in wading depth is silly - even by Pro-AGW standards.
