Republican Rudy Giuliani is the early frontrunner in Florida, according to a poll by the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. 47 per cent of respondents in the Sunshine State would support the former New York City mayor in the 2008 United States presidential election, while 42 per cent would vote for Democratic New York senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Giuliani also holds a 12-point lead over Illinois senator Barack Obama, and an eight-point edge over former North Carolina senator John Edwards.
The three Democratic presidential hopefuls hold the upper hand in contests against former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney.

I am hoping reality will sink in for some folks.
I do hope that the Arnold CA model will prevail -- 92% of Republicans voted for him and enough independents and Dems that he beat the Democrat in CA.
In some polls something like over half of independents preferred Rudy, while only some 30% preferred Hillary.
Nobody can get elected without appealing to moderates.
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too early to tell. Any candidate can yearrrrrrrgh their way out of contention in a heartbeat.
Rudy Giuliani can't be ignored, that's for certain.

Did you know that Thompson is a great friend of McCain and supported him against President Bush?

Among potential complications in a Thompson race is that he is good friends with McCain, a current presidential candidate. Thompson endorsed McCain for president in his 2000 bid.
Baker said his wife, former Sen. Nancy Kassebaum Baker, R-Kan., already supports McCain for president and Baker said he too might back McCain if Thompson does not run.

And some quick analysis -- something for conservatives to think about:
1. Conservatives want to support a nominee who supported McCain against Bush?
2. The person, Baker, who is pushing Thompson's candidacy is a McCain supporter.
Anyone get a clue?
As I said on another thread, they want to split the Republican and conservative vote, which would be advantageous to McCain getting the Republican nomination.
A Ross Perot play inside the Republican primary.
Surely conservatives will be smarter than ending up splitting the party, to get McCain nominated, with President Hillary as a result.
Did you also hear that Dem Strategist Bob Beckel is also trying to con Republicans to get Thompson in the race by making ludicrous statements, that the Dems are afraid of him.

The only poll that is valid this early in the game is the proverbial "ten foot pole"....a fairly safe distance.
* That way you may avoid getting any of it on you.
I can live with Giuliani.
Rudy may have a leg up in Florida, if he's the nominee:
Retirees from NYC area (mostly liberals, or at least, mostly Democrats) remember how the city used to be when they were young, know how bad it got, know and appreciate the fact that Rudy improved it significantly. And they all vote.
