I think his ability to take things in stride and not let the opposition know they were getting under his skin was one of this greatest attributes. He would just laugh it off, make fun of himself, and move on to the next thing that drove the press crazy!

re: And it's been one of my biggest frustrations with Bush

Amen! I love him as a president, but it sure frustrates me the way he refuses to fight back. And his father becoming so chummy with Bubba really drove me crazy!

The days are gone when being the gentleman won the day. Today's political world demands a lot of tit for tat and failure to recognize that and respond can be the kiss of death.

It's because he's a negative force that I want unleashed on my enemies.

Yo Wolf, you've said it well.

One of Harry Truman's outstanding traits was his mean temper. You didn't mess with him.

Similarly, I think Rudy wouldn't take much crap off anyone. And I like that.

An important area where Rudy is to the right to of the other candidates is that he's not afraid to piss off Democrats and activists. Bush and most Republicans on the national level try too hard to be "compassionate" conservatives. I don't see the other Republican candidates for president speaking out against Al Sharpton. Rudy's tough guy approach would be good for the country.

One interesting comparison that I remember was in 2000 when Dick Morris predicted on the O'Reilly Factor that George W. Bush would do better with black voters than other Republicans(obviously this didn't happen) because Bush the compassionate conservative "isn't a scare figure like Ronald Reagan and Rudy Giuliani."

I think this is why I like Rudy.

Agree! The death of the damn "new tone"!

Can't wait.

The trouble with this approach is that hillary has a DOB- [or B-] rating of 150.

Point on. And if Fred Thompson comes in, Rudy G will either beat him or lose to him and we will have two tough guy SOB's on the ticket. Time for niceness to end. There is no bridge to reconcilliation in this nation. There really is two America's and we better recognize it. This is a culture war we are in and our SOB's better be tougher than the pacifist-socialists we face in the Democrats. Frankly I am sick of Pubs never defending ourselves, themselves, for the good of the nation against the lies and undermining of the Democrats.

I love the way he would tell jokes and make jokes! Like his "the bombing begins in five minutes" or his story with punch line "Well sir, you don't eat a pig like that all at once!"

Liberals have little or no sense of humor, at least not one that depends on something other than humor at someone else's expense.

I believe THE SOB factor was why the VERY Conservative CPAC www.cpac.org voted for Rudy in their straw poll. He came in first when adding 1st & 2nd choices. He had no campaign, no flyers, no staff, he was not even on the agency, and he and Romney were the front runners. Good post.

it's why I like him. And Bolton. The US needs a tough talking/acting President who will unashamedly assert US power.
