HILLARY'S 'HERO' PROBLEM (Caught in another whopper)
NY Post ^

WHILE Hillary Rodham Clinton came out second best to Barack Obama in their long-range oratorical duel at Selma, Ala., the real problem with her visit there a week ago concerned her March 4 speech's claim of her attachment to Martin Luther King Jr. as a high school student in 1963. How, then, could she be a "Goldwater girl" in the next year's presidential election?
The incompatibility of those two positions of 40 years ago was noted to me by Democratic old-timers who were shocked by Sen. Clinton's temerity in pursuing her presidential candidacy.

I have to disagree with Novak on this one, until LBJ came along, Republicans were viewed as the champions of civil rights and the Rats were viewed as the Good Ole Boys.
I guess revisionist history really does work.

no political candidate should have to explain inconsistencies of her high school days. Mr. Novak, you and I both know that tt's not inconsistencies in "her high school days". But it's a pandering suck-up lie.
If she was in fact an MLK cheerleader one year and an AuH2O girl the next, I could respect her more.
But she's playing to the audience of the moment, and they'll buy anything she sells, or so it seems.

It is possible for a 2-faced teenager to grow up into a 2-faced adult. The only fact she needs to stick with and keep repeating is that she was there in Memphis on the balcony talking to Jesse Jackson when Martin Luther King was shot.

While Republicans votes were key to passage (something they never get credit for), Goldwater was one of 5 Republicans in the Senate to vote against the Civil Rights Act in 1964 (source:
Wikipedia. Now, that may have been for some specific parts of the legislation, but is shows Hillary is lying.

The implication here is that the Republicans were the ones fighting to keep Jim Crow laws and segregation, which is the exact opposite of historical reality.

That is what I remember as well. I was a staunch Nixon Republican in the late 50's and on the front lines of the civil rights movement. Never forget, Republicans gave us an end to slavery and Civil Rights legislation.
The Democrats penchant for twisting and distorting is only magnified by Hillary who, if memory serves, was bitterly opposed to blacks getting the vote and quickly left the Republican party for the turgid waters of the left.

...claim of her attachment to Martin Luther King Jr. as a high school student in 1963. How, then, could she be a "Goldwater girl" in the next year's presidential election? Sounds credible to me, since the Republican Party is truly the one that cares about civil rights and minorities.
Democrats want to enslave them to government checks and dependence.
To: HEY4QDEMS
See my post just above. We came to the same conclusion. :)
To: OrioleFan
My point is that proponents of Civil Rights were primarily on the Republican side of the aisle.
Logic would suggest that a pro civil rights citizen would generally support the Republican candidate not withstanding that candidate's individual voting record.

Why is being inspired by Martin Luther King Jr. in 1963 incompatible with being a Goldwater supporter in 1964? That's my question, too. MLK was a Republican. The segregationists of the time were mostly Democrats. So supporting MLK, Civil Rights and Goldwater is not too far-fetched.
However, another poster has noted that Goldwater voted against the Civil Rights Act in 1964, and that is interesting but not necessarily proof that Hillary couldn't have supported both.

Exactly right, otherwise there wouldn't be so many pro-life Republicans supporting Rudy. It's interesting that they are doing so, but not so much that it is incredible.

Maybe some ambitious reporter will dig enough to find a classmate from Hillary's Goldwater Girl days to confirm her non-support of the Civil Rights Act. I guess I'm assuming quite a bit there....

And here's another whopper for you; not only did Hitlery lie but so did Barack Hussein Obama. According to "The Political Skinny" column in the Mobile Press-Register this morning the loudest roar heard at the speech in Selma was when BHO said "There was something stirring across the country because of what happened in Selma, AL, because some folks are willing to march across a bridge. So they got together, and Barack Obama Jr. was born." He then went on to say, "So don't tell me I don't have a claim on Selma.....I'm here because somebody marched." The column ended with the info that Bloody Sunday occurred March 7, 1965. Obama was born on August 4, 1961. OMG, somebody better call Fitzpatrick - he lied! Oh wait, he's a Dim, they always lie....!

Allow me to use a golf analogy. Watching either Clinton campaign for public office is like watching a golfer drop a ball through his pant leg in the primary rough and claim it was his original shot.
If a golfer wants to cheat, I could care less, unless we're playing for money.

Hillary's problem is Hillary. She's evil through and through; power-hungry; an ego maniac; a liar; an anti-Semite; anti-military; and she never met an enemy of the US that she's didn't feel sorry for. Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

Hillary's negatives won't gain traction until the news media moves from her camp into Obama's, something which may be happening now. Establishment journalism does not deliver straight news but news that has first been crafted into a political message. Information that can bring Hillary down--like her brother Anthony being sued over bribes from felons pardoned by Bill--will be ignored until the media turns against her. Then all the skeletons will be dragged out of the closet. Look what they did to Howard Dean over a silly scream.

That's true, but only because of language he felt governed morality which went against the grain of his libertarian leanings.
He had a very distinguished pro civil rights voting record.
From the Wikipedia article:
Goldwater supported the Arizona NAACP and was involved in desegregating the Arizona National Guard. Nationally, he supported the Civil Rights Acts of 1957 and 1960. However, he opposed the much more comprehensive Civil Rights Act of 1964; he argued that it unconstitutionally extended the federal government's commerce power to private citizens in its drive to "legislate morality" and restrict the rights of employers.
