WWWD? What Would Washington Do?

You may say that we have a representative form of government, but, with a few exceptions on the local level, I don't think so. In effect, we have confiscatory taxation at all levels of government, a government that no longer fulfills its most important duties (see the Southern border and illegal immigrants choking schools and hospitals) and a political process that is distorted by mass media appeal rather than substance.

Lamentably, we citizens have our share of the blame. Our culture is so dumbed down that I doubt the average American has the civic IQ or the basic knowledge of issues to make informed choices at the polls or to otherwise intelligently add their voice to the debate.

As I have been saying for quite some time: "Time for another Tea Party" (And for you DUmmies: no, I don't mean violent uprising, just a bloodless revolution to get us back to the greatness that marked founding of this country)

Near us there are usually at least one canoe drowning a year. clearly we must ban Canoes and Kayaks for the good of the people. We especially should outlaw any canoes that hold more than 5 people. Oh the Hugh Manatee!!

Massholes?

A Masshole is a liberal from the Gay State who,for whatever reason (the skiing?) decided to move to NH and,when they arrived,realized that they must,with their ballots and contributions,vote to change their new home from a low tax,minority hating,gun loving Nazi backwater to a "progressive" paradise..

Today,Massholes represent a huge percentage of NH's voters...as evidenced by the fact that last November New Hampshire re-elected their RAT governor with about 75% of the vote and by the fact that both of their House seats,which had been held by Republicans,are now held by proud,unapologetic Marxist RATS.

Not too surprised by the effort to tax canoes and kayaks. What will be interesting is to see how these politicians define a 'non-motorized vessel'. Is a dug-out log a vessel? A wooden barrel? An inner tube? 6 noodles duct-taped together? At some point the politicians look like money grubbing fools.

Alaska did this a while back, anything over 10 ft had to be registered.

Lots of backlash from the sheep local voters.

Now anything with a motor, even a trolling motor, has to have a state sticker.

Taxman by The Beatles

Let me tell you how it will be;
There's one for you, nineteen for me.
'Cause I’m the taxman,
Yeah, I’m the taxman.

Should five per cent appear too small,
Be thankful I don't take it all.
'Cause I’m the taxman,
Yeah, I’m the taxman.

(if you drive a car, car;) - I’ll tax the street;
(if you try to sit, sit;) - I’ll tax your seat;
(if you get too cold, cold;) - I’ll tax the heat;
(if you take a walk, walk;) - I'll tax your feet.

Taxman!

'Cause I’m the taxman,
Yeah, I’m the taxman.

Don't ask me what I want it for, (ah-ah, mister Wilson)
If you don't want to pay some more. (ah-ah, mister heath)
'Cause I’m the taxman,
Yeah, I’m the taxman.

Now my advice for those who die, (taxman)
Declare the pennies on your eyes. (taxman)
'Cause I’m the taxman,
Yeah, I’m the taxman.

And you're working for no one but me.

Taxman!

That's a shame. Too bad about what happened to NH, Vermont, and the rest of New England. Does anyone still refer to Connecticut as the arsenal of freedom?

"the Dept of Natural Resources patrols the lakes and rivers, and if you don't have your sticker, they will impound your canoe or kayak."

You have just hit on the real reason for the tax. It allows the LEO's to stop and interrogate you for anything and look for other infractions. Just like the mandatory seat belt laws. The DNR have expanded their LEO arm and the need more things to do and people to hassle. I live in Indiana and it's happening here.

Alabama has a "registration" law for motorized water vessels,but not for craft without motors.They did,however,implement a fee for hunting on public land.Keep in mind this land was paid for with "Robertson/Pittman" money,taxed onto all hunting and fishing equipment one buys.So,we now have to buy a hunting license,fishing license,state duck stamp(if one hunts waterfowl),federal duck stamp,and fill out a Migratory Bird Survey(which sooner or later will be an addistional cost).

So,I quit hunting all together.They can kiss my a$$.Next will be a "tag" for boat trailers.Then they can tax you on your way to the water,in the water,and back home from the water.

First of all, the bill has not been introduced, but has not been voted on. Let's not characterize the entire state by what a handful of policiticians want. If not, we can start with some of the bills that were introduced in say, Massachusetts, over the years....
As for the voters in NH, note that the votes for John Kerry in 2004 came from the northernmost counties, not the south (where the MA refugees are located). The North of NH has more "net-takers" from society than the south. Those who have escaped from MA (I am one of them; 12 years ago) are the type of people that vote more conservative and elect Republicans. We'll see what happens in 2008. Remember that if NH had gone the other way in 2000, the FL result would have been irrelevant and President Gore would have been in charge during 9/11....

"This is the law in Illinois and Wisconsin. "

No it is not. The IL rule was voluntary, and I hadn't ever heard it changed. Flatlander's lauching their canoes and kayak's at the local lauch here in WI ~month ago, were not defaced with a 3" high, 1.5-2' long string of numbers. Folks only do it, to avoid being pulled over for a "papers please" check, in places like the MN boundary waters.
