LAS VEGAS Former Nevada Governor Kenny Guinn has thrown his support behind the presidential bid of former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.

Romney's campaign says Guinn will lead Romney's Nevada finance steering committee along with former congresswoman Barbara Vucanovich.

Romney said in a statement he's honored to have the support of some of the most influential and talented leaders in Nevada.

The Massachusetts governor is scheduled to raise money at a private event in Las Vegas at the Four Seasons Hotel tomorrow.

It will be his first visit to the state since Nevada Republicans moved their presidential caucus six weeks earlier in an attempt to lure candidates.

He is not scheduled to make any public appearances.

In addition to their executive management experience, another reason that Governors are elected President more often than members of the House and Senate is because they know other Governors! Access to the political organization, contacts, and fund raising sources at the statewide level is a major advantage to a candidate.

It was also announced today that Governor Don Carcieri (R-RI) will be joining the Romney for President campaign.

Guinn certainly knows how to raise money. After all, he pushed through the largest tax increase in Nevada state history.

Guinn is an Episcopalian, not a Mormon. In a televised interview yesterday on Channel 8 here in Las Vegas, Guinn could not have been more emphatic why Mitt Romney would be the best choice to lead the Country into the challenging times ahead.

In November 2005, Time magazine named Guinn one of the five best governors in the U.S. In his election to his second term as Governor, Guinn garnered 68% of the vote. Upon leaving office earlier this year, he enjoyed a 66% job approval rating! (Source:Wikipedia)

This should help Romney in the Nevada primary.

Some people speculate that President George W. Bush may nominate Guinn for a position at the White House or in federal government after the end of his gubernatorial term;

however, Guinn's 2006 defiance of the Veterans Administration in issuing a military headstone for fallen Wiccan Nevada National Guardsman Sergeant Patrick Stewart when the VA refused to do so because of his faith has placed this in jeopardy.

Sounds ok in my book!

I'll second that. I live in Nevada; Guinn is the RINO poster child.

I do not have a list of LDS members, and I only know the political leanings of a few public figures, mostly Utahns, but some out-of-state moderates and liberals like Gordon Smith, Mitt Romney, and Reid.

You could say that by definition any LDS who supports a lib like Reid or Romney isn't a conservative, but that's not really an accurate way of looking at it -- let's say a good number of otherwise-conservative LDS support Mormon pols who are not conservative.

Gordon Smith who is still in the midst of grieving is still conservative even if he feel emotional about the war!

You would like Romney to fit your mode of Rino but he does not!

And Harry Reid is a trader!

Gordo is pro-gay and pro-research on human embryos. Smith is a member of the moderate Republican Main Street Partnership, and a February 2006 National Journal congressional rating placed Smith in the exact ideological center of the Senate. link

And Harry Reid is a trader!

Ahhh, a trader.... does that make him an economic conservative?
