Inspector Valerie Clouseau [Plamegate]
The American Spectator ^ | 3/15/2007 | Mark E. Hyman

Posted on 03/15/2007 12:28:26 PM PDT by Enchante

Plame had been living in the U.S. for several years when her identity was revealed in Novak's 2003 column. The Intelligence Identities Protection Act was crafted not to protect Plame and other classified employees from the FedEx driver, the Safeway cashier, or from threats commonly found in the school carpool line. The Act was to protect the identities of classified employees (typically known as "case officers") and their contacts while overseas.

The first person to bust Plame's identity was likely Plame herself. In using a commercially available data base it took me less then three minutes to learn that Plame had listed "American Embassy, New York, NY 09255" in 1991 as her official address. This, it turns out, was the APO address for the U.S. Embassy in Athens, Greece. Cover busted.

In addition, Brewster-Jennings & Associates was the name of the fictitious company she used as her cover story that she was a business consultant living and working in Europe. Another three-minute database research revealed that Brewster-Jennings reported annual sales revenues of $60,000 and a work force of only a single employee (presumably Plame). Even the most gullible foreign intelligence service would not swallow the whopper that the so-called Brewster-Jennings company could afford to send its only employee to work in Europe on total revenues of $60,000 a year.

Foreign intelligence services use databases, the Internet and credit reports to uncover the real identity of suspected U.S. case officers. There can be little doubt that interested foreign intelligence services knew almost immediately that Plame was a CIA or other U.S. government agency case officer and not a business consultant. Once a foreign government knew her real identity, then anyone she met with while on assignment was likely to have been double agents passing her bogus intelligence.

Not news to those who follow this, but a good glimpse of how bogus the whole "outing" theme is for Plamegate.....

IF Plame was covert (and that's a mighty big if), the CIA obviously wasn't doing much to conceal her identity, nor was she.

Very sloppy op-sec for a covert agent.

Interesting but irrelevant.

The media chant about poor Valerie's outing has gone on for so long it is proven truth now.

The goal is not truth- the original goal was to force Cheney to retire (Republicans retire, quit, back down when pressed a little).

As the Libby case shows, the facts are a minor player in this Greek play.

If Valerie Plame were actually a NOC and her cover were "blown", if she was "outed", exposed, whatever, how and why are she and her loudmouth of a husband still breathing? If she actually handled sensitive, top-secret information of vital importance to national security or state secrets of a foreign power, somebody would have had to neutralize her. By virtue of the fact that the glorified gopher Joseph Wilson can write books publicizing his "covert" wife, whatever information she may have been privy to couldn't have been that sensitive.

Take the name (Plame) out of it, and the references to the gender (she, her), and substitute references to a male agent, and then submit this article to the internet and general public for reading, and I have no doubt that most people out there would conclude that the "agent" in question was a dope and the "spy that couldn't shoot straight" or the "agent that couldn't even spy on his neighbor" . People all over would be up in arms about the kind of people that our spy agencies were hiring and would conclude "no wonder we had no clue about 9/11 before it happened"..

Novak confirmed her employment with CIA headquarters. If you are covert, they do not give you up over the phone to someone calling in who would just like to know.

If CIA confirms your employment over the phone to a reporter, you are not covert.

And, as we all know, Novak is the one who outed her in print, and Armitage was his source. Neither of them were charge for outing her because, again, outing her was not a crime. She was not covert.

Blowing classified operations on page one of the New York Times, such as operations tracking Bin Ladin's sat phone, Al Qaeda cell phones, Al Qaeda money wire transactions, CIA safe houses, CIA black air transport flights, this certainly strikes me as meriting some serious counter-intel attention, prosecution, in fact whoever blew these operations ought to be occupying a cell in one of those secret prisons we supposedly keep scattered around Romania.

Real breaches of security were not addressed by our "special" prosecutor. Only a fake one.

Fitzgerald is guilty of an abuse of office. He had his information on day one of his supposed investigation, and spent 3 more years investigating, what? His fake investigation ranks right up there with Wilson's fake investigation, and the fake investigation of the Duke lacrosse team.

Good points all, but Fitzfong doesn't care about anything except serving the interests of his fellow 'Rats..... he would have had nothing to do except close up shop if he'd been anything other than a vicious partisan Demagogue.

Fitzgerald is guilty of an abuse of office.

I think you are 100% correct. I read that Armitage told Fitzgerald that he was the one who had told that Plame was CIA, and that he had reported it to Colin Powell. Fitzgerald allegedly asked Armitage and Powell not to tell anyone that he knew, and then he, IMO, planned a trap for Libby or Rove - whichever one he could trap. Colin Powell was still Sec. of State at that time, and his first loyalty should have been to the President, shouldn't it? Therefore, Powell went along with a dastardly deed to embarrass the President. Shouldn't he be punished rather than honored for such a breach of conduct? I'm all for reducing his pension and Armitage's. They don't deserve it! I think they are equally responsible for the huge amount of money that was wasted on this fraudulent case. I would not want anyone as deceitful as Powell and Armitage on my payroll.

If Powell actually did that, then he is a Judas. However his pension would stand most likley.

Wilson did not have any expertise in weapons grade uranium or in nuclear weapons systems, making him the ideal candidate to be completely useless in competently completing the task he was assigned at the urging of his wife who was safely ensconced in her Langley, Virginia office cubicle.

I never understood why SHE stayed home and didn't go on the trip with him since she supposedly knew more about WMD

Maybe because he was getting his 'business' started and these free trips from the CIA gave him a boost?

These trips covered a multitude of purposes. If his treasonous lying was the 'safe cover' to allow to be exposed, ya gotta wonder what other nefarious purposes he may have been up to.

The Shadow Government is so seamy. Are these people that shamelessly evil, or that psychotically stupid????

And here's Mrs. Wilson, now, ready for her CSPAN closeup....
