Barack Obama is taking heat from Jews and homosexuals in the wake of a report in the Los Angeles Times that he was once a "registered" Muslim. The LA Times reports that Obama did not attend a radical madrasa as Fox News claimed earlier this year. But the LA Times discovered that "Obama was registered by his family as a Muslim at both of the schools he attended" in Indonesia as a child. The Obama campaign has consistently downplayed any Islamic connection.

The revelation won't play well with many Americans. The Des Moines Register reports today that "Obama's expression of sympathy for the Palestinian people while campaigning in Iowa this week prompted questions from some Jewish Democrats in Iowa."

During the time Obama was there, pupils were required to state an affiliation with a major world religion. When enrolling a child, the common practice was to list the father's faith. Which was Islam, while his mom was an atheist.

You seem to have overlooked Obama's faith in your post. Obama is/was a third generation Muslim. Born a Muslim. Raised a Muslim. Studied the Koran as a Muslim and attended prayers as a Muslim.

When Obama was in Jakata, all Indonesian students were required to study religion at school and a young Barry Soetoro, being a Muslim, would have been required to study Islam daily in school.

He would have been taught to read and write Arabic, to recite his prayers properly, to read and recite from the Quran and to study the laws of Islam.

According to Tine Hahiyary, one of Obama's teachers and the principal of Besuki Primary School from 1971 throuh 1989, Barry actively took part in the Islamic religious lessons during his time at the school.  His teacher was named Maimunah and she lived in the Puncak area, the Cianjur Regency.
