'Cave entrances' spotted on Mars
BBC News ^

Posted on 03/17/2007 1:05:05 AM PDT by BlackJack

Scientists studying pictures from Nasa's Odyssey spacecraft have spotted what they think may be seven caves on the surface of Mars.

The candidate caves are on the flanks of the Arsia Mons volcano and are of sufficient depth their floors mostly cannot be seen through the opening.

Details were presented here at the Lunar and Planetary Science Conference in Houston, Texas.

Temperature data from Mars Odyssey's Themis instrument support the idea.

The authors say that the possible discovery of caves on the Red Planet is significant.

The caves may be the only natural structures capable of protecting primitive life forms from micrometeoroids, UV radiation, solar flares and high energy particles that bombard the planet's surface.

The spacecraft spotted what seemed to be vertical "skylight" entrances to caves below the surface.

Evidence of subterranian Lave flows
reaching the surface?

Where, pray tell, do these scientists
think that these elemental life forms
came from, that they could blossom
in these "caves"?

Where did the light come from? ..Hmm! Does this seem strange to anyone else?

Okay, first off I'll start with a quote that I've been using a lot here recently. "There are two possibilities, either we're alone in the universe, or we aren't. Each is equally frightening."

Now...there are two theories of life: creation and evolution. I know I'm starting a little basic but it seems like a good place to start, the beginning. Unfortunately the two theories are mutually exclusive. One theory is supported by science, the other by faith. If either one proves true, it will shatter the followers of the other.

The only way to end this debate either way is to find life on another rock. Preferably outside this solar system. Well...I guess we could prove the existence of God, but most will agree that would be impossible (until the apocalypse of course). I'm not sure what to think, but I do know that if we do find life outside of this planet, it will cause a massive upheaval in the world.

I was trying to write a paragraph here about my predictions either way, but I couldn't make it sound neutral.

The only way life on other planets could shake my faith is if it were intelligent life and had no knowledge of God. "Shake it", mind you, not destroy it. After all, Christianity has been preached in each new continent- why stop there? :)

Not to mention the ideas of C. S. Lewis. Now that would be a fine kettle of fish...

One theory is supported by science, the other by faith.

Both are faith claims.

The claim of evolutionists that life organized itself spontaneously, mindlessly, purposelessly, and without direction from inert matter in the twinkling of cosmic time, is by far the more irrational of the two faith claims.

Some of us do not think that creation and evolution are mutually exclusive. Some of us believe that the evolutionary process was started by God. Evolution cannot be denied, the record is there, how could it all have begun without a Supreme Being starting it all. The seven days in which the world was formed were not our 24 hour days but God's days. The 2 theories mesh beautifully for me.

"Qautermass and the pit". Yeah, that movie creeped me out when I first saw it as a kid, although it was then titled for the American market as "Five Millions Years to Earth".

Got it on DVD now. It still creeps me out!

IMHO the universe is designed to bring forth life, which may then develop and be aware of the universe's existence. The chances of a universe randomly working like this one are impossibly small. But if the universe is designed to bring forth life, I find that just as spiritual as the Creator bring life forth on our planet in six days, perhaps even moreso.

This is what many people are confused about. God also created time. It was dilated a long time ago, not constant like today.
