From now SSG Dave Thul, MNARNG (he was promoted yesterday), SSG Thul is currently serving with the 34th Infantry Division, conducting convoy operations in Iraq. He has received the Combat Infantry Badge and was recently extended 125 days in support of surge operations. You can contact him at Dave at appealforcourage.org:

LT Nichols asked me to send you this short statement from the Appeal For Courage committee ( http://www.appealforcourage.org ) to be read at the Gathering of Eagles this weekend.

I also wanted to thank you for what you are doing. I had the honor of standing guard over the Traveling Wall when it came to Minnesota a few years ago. The thought that anyone could desecrate the symbol of our gratitude to the Vietnam Vets makes my blood boil.

Good luck and God bless,
SGT Dave Thul

Here is the statement:

40 years ago, a debate was raging much the same as the one today. A small but vocal group opposed to the war in Vietnam managed to convince the public that the war was unwinnable, that the cause was immoral, and that our troops were murderers. They shouted loud enough and long enough to force our politicians to concede and we pulled out of Vietnam too soon. A generation of Vietnam Veterans came home to a country that had forgotten the debt of gratitude that is owed to those who defend freedom. A country that had forgotten how to welcome home it’s veterans with open arms.

Today, another small but vocal group is trying to convince America that the war in Iraq is already lost, that the cause of freedom is not worth the fight, and that our troops are committing atrocities on a daily basis. But today, there is a difference. There are men and women at home who refuse to let history repeat itself. That same generation of Vietnam Veterans are standing up to ensure that all veterans are treated with the respect they have earned. They are drawing the line at those who say that desecrating our war memorials is an expression of free speech. And they are supporting our troops with their actions and not just their words.

Today over 1600 men and women in uniform have signed an Appeal to ask Congress to support our mission and let us stay in Iraq until the mission is complete. We are asking to stay in harm’s way because we know the importance of what we are doing, and the consequences of failure.

As we fight the battle in Iraq, you have continued to fight the battle at home. As we stand up for freedom and democracy overseas, you are standing guard for freedom and democracy at home. In Iraq today, as it was in Vietnam 40 years ago, we can not lose on the field of battle. You are ensuring that we do not lose it at home. Thank you for your continuing service, and together we will continue the fight for freedom.

SGT Dave Thul
LT Jason Nichols

A video of LT Jason Nichols talking about the appeal for courage, from Baghdad, is available here:

Please pray for these two young men as they prayed for you today.

The Hippies Begin Their "Surrender March" - an introduction

and....

THE HIPPIE AMBUSH! We saw the movie the 300 last night (and Lt. Governor Steele was there!!! I acted like a schoolgirl at a Beatles concert)...It was the perfect movie to pump us up for today - and here is the ambush tactic we learned from the Spartans: Make the hippie walk through a narrow pass and let the verbal blows flow.

Frikkin' HILARIOUS....!!!!

Hey freema, USMCPOPSICLE is back in Richmond safe and sound, and I'm thawing out. I still can't believe how many Freepers we met up with today in D.C. My trip on the Metro from Arlington Cemetery to Pentagon Station was packed with moonbats. Looked like a cattle train.

To all of you who made it today - thanks.

Another way would be to take I-76 to I-79 and pick up I-68 at Morgantown. I-68 takes you back to I-70 and then I-270 into D.C. Jack's brother takes that route when he comes to visit from D.C. It takes him about 5-6 hours depending on the weather, etc.

Thank you for being there for all of us. You guys looked pretty formidable out there! I was thinking it must have been almost like a homecoming reunion. My overall impression was STRENGTH. I'm sure the anti's didn't want to start anything.

Hey there! The 3 of us did go to Pentagon City Mall as you suggested. Silly security guard threw us out since Al still had his sign....it was actually kind of funny!

Glad you made it home safe and sound. I just thawed out totally about an hour ago.

What a wonderful day! It was so nice to meet you.

Ok, I looked. It would be funny if it weren't so sad. How many Liberals does it take to spread a lie?

Oh for goodness sake. Poor Susan Shine.

Susan Shine
She lost her sign
And doesn't know where to find it.

She went to protest
And got caught in a nest
Of patriots who just didn't like it.

I wish I'd been at the mall to see their reaction to his "Impeach all Democrats" sign. Freema and I went over to Section 60 at Arlington Cemetery and paid our respects, then she headed for the Iwo Jima statue.

We had only a 30 minute ride to Philadelphia to catch the bus with Doctor Raoul's group but we had sleet last evening and all night. My car was totally frozen. So I know exactly how you feel. I'm feeling a little better after spending nearly all day on these threads and seeing the photos; I was going to be away anyway! I'm not taking my GOE armband off my coat, tho; I want everyone to see it and ask what it means.

I thought storms like this only hit Ohio where I lived for 12 years. I knew we'd pay for this early spring weather! 78 last Tuesday!
