"I was proud to attend today's "Gathering of Eagles" (GOE) counter-protest to the large anti-war march to the Pentagon and was pleased find the attendance by many loyal veterans and Americans. Those carrying American flags and backing our men and women in uniform arrived and participated in very large numbers. I was impressed and pleased.

The dingbats were also in very large numbers and behaved shamefully. They didn't do so without direct, loud and clear commentary from the assembled patriotic souls and faced a sea of American flags flying stiffly in the cold wind. The "moonbat" crowd did shameful things to the few American flags that they had - including altering the to stars and replacing them with dishonorable symbols and later - dragging the American flag on the ground.

The voices and messages of those of us flying the American flag with pride were numerous, loud and gave absolutely no quarter. I was proud to raise my voice with them. The event began with the dingbat anti-war protesters assembled near the State Department giving their shrill speeches. The Gathering of Eagles patriots were assigned an area on the opposite side of the Viet Nam Veteran's Memorial wall and it was a proud display of U.S. flags. The Pledge of Allegence was said and our National Anthem played in sight of the Wall. The Memorial was very well protected and there were no incidents that I'm aware of..."

Their rules about bad language are much looser than FR if you're easily offended though. "ARFCOM" as we ARFCOMer's call it is my SECOND FAVORITE website...behind FR of course!

I did not attend. However I did phone a couple of FReepers who were there and they gave me reports. I then posted their observations on the LIVE THREAD.

It wasn't much but I did what I could seeing as my schedule didn't allow me to be in DC.

Looks like a good number of people turned out. So glad to see it. I would much rather have been there than at home digging out from this awful snow and ice storm we had. Then later I had to help set up for a church dinner tomorrow and that was exhausting. But at least I feel as if I did a good deed there.

Initially three veterans blocked the start of the "march" by standing silently at attention in the middle of the road. They did not move when the Park Police motorcycle cops zapped them with their sirens and remained motionless for a few minutes. It was clear that the Park Police didn't want to arrest them - and with their point made and the antis delayed - they re-joined us one traffic lane away from the flow of antis.

When looking at each side of the street, the difference is startling.....there are numerous American flags held by people who support our troops and our country but ...looks like ONE flag on the other side. Speaks volumes.

I saw some old friends from the "Win In Vietnam" contingent that used to show up at the big anti-war rallies on the Mall ('71-72). Some people just hang in there.

I live across the river in VA but got no takers on my hot tub offer. I guess the though of being wet wasn't real appealing at the time. :-)

First timer here but I've been reading FREEP regularly for a long time. Thanks for the great pictures of great Americans and revealing pictures of the anti-everything loonies. Sure wish I could have been there.

I emailed C-SPAN and politely inquired as to why they were not covering the GOE but only the protesters. Yep, I'm holding my breath waiting for that reply.
