If there were any true justice left in America, John Couey would already be dead.
Couey is the evil monster who molested, raped, tortured and then buried alive little 9-year-old Jessie Lunsford. A jury sentenced him to death last week.
Couey doesn't deserve any more food, oxygen or any other creature comfort. We should kill him as soon as possible. If his death takes years to carry out the sentence, there will be no justice. I want all child molesters executed, not just murderers like John Couey. I do not care if the child molester is Couey or a priest. Execute all of them. The sooner the better.
The irrefutable fact is that pedophiles have the highest recidivism rates of any criminals. Once released from custody, it is virtually a statistical certainty that they will prey on more of our children and destroy more innocent lives.
Couey was arrested and charged with various crimes 24 times, our pathetic legal system guaranteeing more victims. How much more evil will America take?
If we value our children as we claim, then we should protect our children from these monsters. The only sure way to protect our children is to get rid of pedophiles.

So very true. I very rarely look to the US Congress for solutions to anything, but Federal Legislation needs to be passed that will have these animals locked away forever! It also needs to apply to those already in custody for these types of crimes.

What bugged me about this is the claim that he is "retarded" and not responsible for his actions. Well, he wasn't too "retarded" to try to hide his crime, which to me indicates he knew it was wrong and did it anyway. I vote with Ted. Put this monster on the fast track to the death penalty.

Why can't we make torture of such people no longer "cruel and unusual punishment"? It seems as if we just did it as a matter of justice and made it the norm, torture would not be either cruel or unusual.
And I say let the family and friends have the first bit of time with the convicted offender. After that, the paid torturer finished up the task.

This is the simple reality of it. If you don't wan't to believe it, imagine yourself being imprisoned for having normal, consensual sex with another adult (as if it were a crime)......and then after your release you were expected to not ever again have normal, consensual sex with another adult......this would impossible to comply with, because human libido is one of the strongest forces driving normal humans in the quest for pleasure.
Now..........imagine that your inclination toward satisfying the demands of your libido is directed at children......and it is every bit as strong as the normal human desire for normal and consensual sex......you are no more able to ignore your perverted libido's demands than a normal person is able to deny the force of his libido for normal sex/pleasure.

Incredibly, two of the jurors voted against the death penalty (in Florida, the jury can recommend or not recommend the death penalty in capital crime cases). If he finally is executed, there will be a crowd of tearful moonbats outside of the prison, mourning this monster as if he is some sort of hero. These are the sort of moonbats who believe that a child molesting killer can be "rehabilitated" and fully trusted by society but they don't trust you to own a gun or choose the school your children will go to.
I agree. There seems to be no cure for it and no way of stopping them from doing it again, short of death. If they are kept in prison, for some reason they are always eventually released, and they almost always go right out and commit the same crime all over again. In fact, they frequently commit even worse crimes the second time around.
Kill them and there'll be no second time.

I think that's best left to the States, per the U.S. Constitution. They can, and should, enact the appropriate legislation.

I saw someone being interviewed on TV that actually said pedophiles have one of the lowest recidivism rates.
Everything I have read claims they are virtually impossible to 'cure'.
This guy needs to die and soon, while the crime is still fresh in people's minds.
If we wait the usual time period the next generation(literally) won't know why or the magnitude of his acts.
Bump. 25 years makes not a "speedy trial". And some people seem to think that a trial is not "fair" unless every accused is exonerated. While application of the death penalty should rest on the highest standard of evidence, there is no reason to be housing and feeding these vermin for decades until their parasitic representatives have milked the system for every delay imaginable - not for the sake of justice (working for a real breakthrough in the case), but just to buy time in the hopes of a legislative victory against the death penalty. A revolting state of affairs.
Unfortunately this is not a federal issue. It belongs to the states. That's where legislation needs to be passed in order to execute these maggots.
Actually I think it may be possible to rehabilitate pedophiles.
Unfortunately the method I believe would work would most likely be considered unethical.
I believe aversion therapy would work it electrodes were inserted in the pedophile’s brain at the pain centers.
The subject would them be shown movies with clips of child porn inserted at random intervals. When the child porn appeared and the subject became aroused the pain centers in his brain would be stimulated.
This therapy would be continued until the subject no longer was aroused by child porn. Basically you teach the pedophile’s brain that sex with children is painful.
The subject would then be introduced to real children in controlled environments (CCTV monitored but so that the subject would be as unaware of the monitoring as possible). Remote electronic monitoring of his arousal state would verify that he was no longer stimulated by children.
This type of reconditioning may take years of treatment and may require periodic repeated reconditioning and testing to remain effective.
Maybe it would work maybe it wouldn’t, but I doubt that my proposal would be approved of by medical ethicist and may by some be considered torture.
But let me say that I do not propose this for Couey. He has killed an innocent child in a most horrendous way and deserves quick and lethal punishment. Jessie Lunsford deserves justice.

I caught a glimpse of Glen Beck last night promoting flourescent license plates, GPS collars... BRANDING for child molesters who are out on the streets. All I could think of(when I stopped laughing) was how much we'd be better off with them DEAD! No wasted tax money... just a big chunk of lead to their heads.

Right on Ted. Sadly, we've become a society that expends more effort on the care and comfort of prisoners than we do on the disabled and dying in hospice and hospitals.
Just the other day, a story was related to me of a patient with a degenerative pontine disease who was well enough to talk and go outside in a wheelchair having food and water pulled on doctor's orders in a comfort care setting.

I think judges should be help responsible for their decisions more often in this country . Half the judges out there are out of their minds and lack ANY common sense at all.

Why should society bear the cost of this rehabilitation? I agree that what you propose would possibly work, but does the benefit to society outweigh the cost?

I think that the real solution is for the government, acting on behalf of "society" -- we the people -- to identify and destroy people like Couey early, before he has a chance to destroy an innocent child's life. You know as well as I do that this character has committed similar, if less notorious, acts early in his career.
This should happen in a dispassionate, predictable way. The fact that government does not do this is the reason that every time something like this happens, we always have people expressing helpless rage by proposing gruesome tortures or, even worse, hoping that a prisoner in the general prison population will do what our government should have been done in the first place.
Here is how I'd like to see this handled: The judge says "You have been found guilty, the sentence is death" then from under his robe he draws a large bore wheel gun and puts a round through the diseased animal's head, thus assuring no recitivism.
Well I didn’t really mean to suggest that it should. Those decisions are to be made by the people’s representatives (in this case at the individual state level). But if such treatment were effective I believe that it would be less costly to the taxpayer than keeping a prisoner for life. I don’t believe (and I am sure you don’t) that many of the more liberal states will pass laws to execute pedophiles (many of them barely imprison them).

I believe here you mean that pedophiles should be executed for lesser crimes of sexual molestation.
The states have it in their power to pass laws to make such crimes punishable by death. They might be overturned on appeal to the Supreme Court (State or Federal). But I would think that the crime would have to be fairly severe to warrant death (more than touching). As much as I hate pedophiles I can’t accept the idea of executing a person for what they might do.
Every so often we read about some young man who has molested a child. I think that if some kind of therapy were available to change the way his brain is hardwired (I have recently read that the human brain is not fully developed until about the age of twenty-five) we could stop his re-offending.
And to go back to the subject of paying for rehabilitation as a condition of release the man could be required to enlist in the military. This was done in the past and I believe that the idea does have merit in this case. For one point it puts the offender in a position of being under fairly constant supervision. Two he could be assigned to combat duty (in time of war) were he could repay his debt to society. In combat he would be in constant sight of his fellow troupes.
The military being aware of his pedophile past could be sure that he was periodically retested.
This is all supposition but I think it is worth some thought. As we all know the present society that we live in does not take capital punishment lightly. The possibility of a medical treatment for these brain damaged retches needs to be looked at.
As for being cheaper to kill him; jus think of all the money Florida will spend on the public defenders and courts as Couey fights his death sentence.
