Our nation is a Constitutional Republic.
There is no necessary contradiction between a Constitutional Republic and a representative democracy. What do you think the House of REPRESENTATIVES impliments? In fact, the second term is more specific than the first since it more accurately describes HOW our Republic functions.
Even Venice claimed to be a constitutional republic while controlled by an autocracy.

The republic is operated through democratic representation. There is no contradiction.

If there was a sign on the door that said,"Smoking allowed" would you stay the hell out? How hard is that? One restaurant owner has a, "Smoking prohibited sign" and another has a "smoking allowed" sign. Why can't that suffice for you?
I have passed no laws wrt smoking. I have spoken in support of no laws, contributed nothing to the passage of any such laws. They are trivialities to me.
It is pitiful that some people cannot escape the clutches of nicotine for even a couple of hours or resent not being able to offend/endanger others.

Even a casual observer couldn't help but notice that you spend an inordinate amount of time addressing "trivialities."

My initial comments were about the hysteria generated by a reasonable comment from Rudy about not trying to pass dranconian bans. Then I responsed to those who responded to me. But I do not pretend that smoking bans are viewed negatively by 90%+ of the people.
Am I female? My late wife would assure you I am not and I contributed mightly to the produce of our two boys. Are You?
