I wonder if they had the passengers pass her forward, mosh-pit style. Nah, laid over a drink cart and run up to 1st class Medieval Battering Ram Style.

Funny, but we really should be ashamed of ourselves. We really should....but what fun is that? A little gallows humor is OK now and then.

A first-class passenger on a flight...awoke to find the corpse of a woman... in a seat next to him..."

"I'd demand my 1st class fare back....... On what grounds? They didn't put the person NEXT to him, And the airline can't stop mid flight and put the body in cargo.
If he wasn't such a busy body, he wouldn't even have known she was dead. They guy is just a whiner. She wasn't put NEXT to him, just NEAR him.
If everyone was given their fare back because something on an airplane annoyed them, the airlines would have to fly people free. I'm sure this guy's whining annoyed people NEAR him.

The passenger should have been informed what was happening. He should have been given a free first class ticket for allowing it to happen.
It's not a huge deal, but he should have been told first, and he should have been compensated for the inconvenience.

Thanks. Was doing that from memory. Never get it completely right. :-)

Actually, the first sentence in the story says next to him and it says near him further down. I guess we really don't know which it is. I've flown many places in all levels of passenger classification. I don't notice many people not sitting next to me....and sometimes not even then.

So death gets you an automatic upgrade to first class...good to know. Only if you've been good. Sinners get sent to luggage.

My goodness, what a nightmare. But just where is the airline crew supposed to put her or any other person who's died while the a/c is airborn? And while I certainly wouldn't hope to be sharing an armrest with a dead person, I cannot imagine placing someone's loved one in a cabin overhead. Perhaps somehow hanging sheets around that area would have made everyone a bit more comfortable?

So... they still have pillows in first class.

They didn't put the person NEXT to him.
Reread the first sentence of the article.
And consult a medical expert of all the things that may occur in the several hours following death.
Many people naturally find a corpse deeply disturbing. To be surprised with one placed next to you while sleeping is the stuff of nightmares for some people.
Seems to me that this can not have been entirely unexpected by the family, and that there should be at least one family member with the emotional strength to be placed next to the deceased, who should have been seated in a window seat.
There is no justification to move a corpse next to strangers, instead of the family she was with when she expired.

More importantly, did the family get charged for the upgrade?YEs, but the daughter simultaneously got downgraded to the bereavement rate, so it was a push.

If everyone who paid for first class, and was awakened by a stranger's corpse next to him was offered a free first class upgrade on his next flight, airlines would do just fine.
You know, some people fly first class because it is important to them not to be disturbed, or to get good rest and relaxation before an important event.
