Thread 3

Since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, our nation has fought a global war against violent extremists who use terrorism as their weapon of choice, and who seek to destroy our free way of life. Our enemies seek weapons of mass destruction and, if they are successful, will likely attempt to use them in their conflict with free people everywhere. Currently, the struggle is centered in Iraq and Afghanistan, but we will need to be prepared and arranged to successfully defend our nation and its interests around the globe for years to come. DOD

Our enemies include all the Muslims who dream of knocking Western Civilization off its perch atop humanity’s dung heap. Islam is fractured into any number of sects, tribes and ethnic groups, but the dream of destroying us cuts across all the fault lines. Islamic terrorists are merely the tip of a very large spear.

J. Peter Mulhern, the American Thinker, September 18

The determination behind that fight is real, the hatred is real, and the excuses for doing this are very real in the minds of those who have decided to walk that path. We can respond in two ways: Try to ignore or negotiate with people who do not want to negotiate in good faith, because what they want is our destruction, or to stand up against the darkness of those who see all of us, our way of life, our culture and our aspirations as something worth eliminating.

Either: "And God willing, with the force of God behind it, we shall soon experience a world without the United States and Zionism," Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

Or: "With vigilance, determination, courage, we will defeat the enemies of freedom, and we will leave behind a more peaceful world for our children and our grandchildren." GW Bush.

Here's where I will post news and info about the Long War. Let me know if you're interested.

Thanks for thread #3. I'll keep it on the screen so it's here when I get up in the morning.

Finished hair/crowns on my banners, started clothes tonight. Yay!

LOL See you all tomorrow. (I'm beginning to fell like Santa Claus, sneaking in here to try to keep up on what's happening, but no time to post.) :-(

Oh put me on it. More posts to miss. LOL

I planted some hens and chickens this morning. Talk about low maintenance!

We've had a couple 75 degree days, then the front came through. Wish that missing Boy Scout had warmer nights. Please ping me if you see anything on him. That park is one of my guys' favorites for hiking and rock climbing. :-(

To bed with me or I'll get a late start tomorrow. Freepmail me with your sewing updates. I'll try to get some photos of my projects to send you...

Thanks for the squeaky-new thread, Knitting!!

Wow- it's so clean and sparkly in here, and it still has that new-thread smell!!

And I don't care what the others might say, Knitting - I think the flowered slipcovers and lace curtains are a nice touch!!

(Being very careful with my coffee this morning -- I don't want to be the first to spill on the rug this time...)

;~)

That is the disgusting picture I've seen.

Is there a season on hippy?

I would like those idiots in a foxhole - that usually makes believers out of folks and makes them grateful for the troops nearby at the same time.

Still computer impaired and will be for another week and a half. Trying to keep up.

" That is the disgusting picture I've seen. "

Yeah -- I happened across the thread with no warning, and it shook me so that I almost spilled my coffee on Knitting's new rug, despite my best intentions...

Wish the original poster had put a warning in the thread title... ;~)

Good morning, Workerbee and Bahbah!!

Just got back from a wallyworld run -- now I have the Ike cave stocked with food and cigarettes for my day off -- gonna put my jammies back on and lurk the ol' (new) homethread and hibernate....

Workerbee -- sorry to hear that you're still computer-challeged.... I live in terror of the day when my old antique finally takes that final dump....

Power Line goes into the poll results out of Iraq and provides some interesting information.

"First, there is such a chasm between the responses of Sunni Arabs on one hand, and Shia Arabs and Kurds on the other, that it is pretty much pointless to average them. Across a broad range of questions, Sunnis answer both negatively and with a unanimity that is rare in opinion polling. For example, news accounts of the poll focus on its negative findings with respect to security. Yet, when asked to rate "today’s conditions in the village/neighborhood where you live" with respect to security, by a 61% to 39% margin, Shia respondents rated their local security "good" rather than "bad," and by an even wider 89% to 11% margin, Kurds rated their local situation "good." The average is dragged down by the Sunnis, who said 7% "good," 93% "bad." Is it really possible that there is such a stark difference in the security situation between Sunni and Shia neighborhoods?

Maybe. But the same gulf shows up across a broad range of questions. When asked whether it was right for the coalition to invade Iraq and depose Saddam, 70% of Shia and 83% of Kurds say Yes. On the other hand, Sunni responses were 2% Yes, 98% No. In America, I don't think you could get that level of unanimity on whether the sun rises in the east."

Caroline Glick sums things up.

'Your money and your life'-Left, Europeans and State Department took only step they could
Jerusalem Post ^ | 3-20-07 | CAROLINE GLICK

Anxiety and anticipation swirled through the air in the days preceding Saturday's swearing-in ceremony for the new Hamas-Fatah terror government in the Palestinian Authority. Since Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah brokered the Fatah terror group's surrender to the Hamas terror group last month, everyone who was anyone whispered the same questions: How would the terrorists finesse the existence of Israel in a government platform that refuses to recognize the legitimacy of a Jewish state? What would the government of, by and for terrorists say about terrorism? How would it elide the issue of the four-to-five million so-called Palestinian Arab refugees they want to settle in Tel Aviv and Haifa?

Most importantly, everyone wanted to know how the Palestinian terrorist unity government would approach the so-called peace process, wherein Palestinian terrorists promise Israel peace but never deliver, while Israel gives them land, guns, money and international legitimacy. How would they treat the writ of faith that stipulates the world will be a safe and peaceful place if only the Jews hand Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem and a pile of cash over to Hamas-Fatah?

Would they meet the Quartet's lip-service requirements by denouncing violence, acknowledging Israel's existence and accepting the Israel-PLO agreements that have brought us the current paradise of peace to the Promised Land?

IN OPERATIVE terms, what was utmost on people's minds was whether the Palestinians would provide cover to the Israeli Left, the Europeans and the State Department to resume direct European financing, arming and championing of the Palestinian terror groups against Israel and pressure Israel to resume concessions to the Hamas-Fatah government.

Sadly for the peace processors, the answers to all the above questions was no.

It's going to be a lovely day, pinz.

On another note:

U.S. Seeks Palestinian Views on Israel

Tuesday, March 20, 2007

The United States wants Palestinian leaders to be more clear on a new coalition government's stance on violence against Israel.

Islamic Hamas militants and a Western-backed Palestinian president have formed a new shared government coalition in hopes of ending an international aid boycott.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice listens as German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, not pictured, speaks , Monday, March 19, 2007, at the State Department in Washington. (AP Photo/Charles Dharapak) But the coalition's political platform announced Saturday stops short of meeting the terms of international donors and would-be peacemakers that Palestinian leaders renounce violence, accept Israel's right to exist and abide by previous agreements the Palestinians made with Israel and others.

The platform makes some rhetorical bows toward satisfying the demands, but also refers to resistance "in all forms" to Israeli occupation. Israeli officials read that as a coded endorsement of suicide bombings or other violence.

"I'm not going to try to interpret what the right of resistance means," Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Monday after a meeting with European diplomats. "But I'll tell you it doesn't sound very good to me when one talks about 'all forms' of resistance."

I'd always heard: Falling doesn't hurt a thing, it's that deceleration at the bottom that really gets rough.

Always made me happy that my only contact with ejection seats was ridin' around on the things, and that all my really bad flights (where I'd either have to eject or do a booboo into something) were in simulators.

Yes, it's a VERY good morning, and thanks for the ping, y'all.

(4th LD) Six-party nuclear talks stalled due to N. Korean boycott

(ATTN: UPDATES with six-party talks stalled, minor changes; CHANGES headline)

By Byun Duk-kun

BEIJING, March 20 (Yonhap) -- Six-party talks on North Korea's nuclear weapons program stalled again Tuesday after the North refused to participate until its frozen funds at a Macau bank are released.

An afternoon session of the six-nation nuclear disarmament talks was cancelled due to the North Korean boycott, according to Kenichiro Sasae, Japan's chief nuclear envoy.
