MILWAUKEE - A group of Iraq War protesters vandalized the windows at the Army recruitment center on Oakland Avenue near the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee campus on Monday night.
Milwaukee police had six people in custody and were questioning several more potential suspects. Witnesses say they saw anywhere from 20 to 40 people dressed in black flee from the scene.
A Web site posting on Monday said that the act was a protest against the U.S. involvement in Iraq, in connection with Tuesday's fourth anniversary of the war.
Torches made from chair legs, fireworks, and black flags were strewn in front of the Army recruitment center. Windows were broken, but there didn't appear to be much damage to the inside of the building. One witness heard loud sounds and then saw a large group fleeing the scene.
"A group of kids were running down the road, about 20 kids or so, just screaming and wearing all black and faces covered, and they had crowbars and baseball bats," said Dan Riess.
Six people are in custody. TODAY'S TMJ4 cameras caught one man being brought back to the scene by police. At least one woman was taken into custody as well. A witness claimed he saw the group a few blocks away after the alleged attack on the recruitment center.
"There were 30 to 35 people, all dressed in black, with buckets spray painted black, just ran by, none of them said a thing, it was all very quiet," said Sal Strehlow.
The Website www.mke.indymedia.org showed a picture on Monday night of a group of protesters holding an anti-war sign. The same sign was found in front of the Army recruitment center after the attack.
Milwaukee police say the participants could face charges of disorderly conduct and criminal damage. There were no reports of injuries.
A witness said one of the protesters had a video camera.
The new Milwaukee DA was "unavailable Tuesday and was "not returning calls" to the media.
We have real problems in the DA's office.
BTW - Where's the @3$%^&! Mayor?

Send in J.B. Van Hollen. You should send him an email about this incident.
Send them all to boot camp for 6 months.
Without a declaration of war I wonder if this could be prosecuted. We ought to have had one after 9/11-as broad as necessary-and I can only blame our leadership for not insisting that Congress vote on one.
Great Idea...
Problem is We ARE NOT AT WAR!!!
The President only recived an authorization for the use of force..
The Demon-Crats and Republi-Cons crawfished... They both knew what they were doing...What a "use of force authorization really meant."
Bush blinked ... he was strategically out maneuvered by his own party. Even if he wanted to do the right thing, he lacks the authority to do it.
The opportunity was squandered...
Now we watch the GQ General fiddle diddle dance as that bunch of excuse laden incompetent but Oh So "Photogenic" and "Well Spoken" GQ Generals make the "excuse de jur" why they lose the battle and our friends and family memebers die riding around in Wheeled Crapomatics.. in a "SASO" mission like delivery service for the enemy to kill at leasure.
W
SASO= Stability and Support Mission
Hati was a SASO...
Iraq is a war which our Pretty Boy GQ Generals do not want to fight nor win.
Afganistan is sleightly better because the fight is less political (fewer big wig Generals)the Canadians Britain and other countries Generals have areas of responsibility, have air mechanized and are able to do what needs to be done..
Could this be the beginning of the RAT/lib/socialist/commie's "kristallnacht"?
This is happening all over the country. Why is it that our troops, the most potent fighting force in history, are when not protecting freedom, some of the kindest people you could ever want to meet, while these 'peace activists' are like untamed beasts?
That is on the socialist news site Indymedia. Tell me, did anyone posting comments there denounce this tactic? Did anyone there support it?
No, that began in 2004 when they painted swastikas on the homes, sidewalks, cars, and campaign signs of Bush supporters.
Tires were slashed, voters were assaulted, card carrying Republicans were targeted for violence. Children were beat up because their parents voted for Bush.
Look up the keyword electionviolence and go back several months/years.
Sabotaging Army property, should be treated as an act of Treason.
Sick thing is Jane Fonda really wants to turn this country into Vietnam. She is pro-Communist and begs that we only give Communism a try. Many of the antiAmerican war movement are Communists as well.
The media is unwilling to disclose this. So when we say they are communists, it is seen as a reaction to being called "nazis".
