Conspiracy Theory: ABC Suggests GOP Behind '1984' Anti-Hillary Ad
NewsBusters ^

MSM-think: when you have no facts on a controversy, offer up the Democrats' anti-GOP conjecture. That was ABC's modus operandi this morning.
Being the astute observers of the political scene they are, most NewsBusters readers have surely watched the YouTube-based anti-Hillary campaign ad that has been making the rounds. It is a take-off on the famous Apple computer ad, which in turn was inspired by George Orwell's anti-authoritarian epic "1984." In the current version, an ominous Hillary, appearing on a wide screen to an audience of automatons, represents Big Brother in the same way IBM did in the Apple original. Barack Obama, represented by a woman athlete of a certain age, plays the hero, hurling a hammer into the screen to smash the state and free the prisoners.
Today's "Good Morning America" ran a segment on the ad. And guess who turned out to be the villian? At the segment's end, ABC's Claire Shipman acknowledged that "there still are no real clues about the author." But that didn't stop Shipman from spinning the story to attack Republicans:
"Robin, the ultimate conspiracy theory, some Democrats think a Republican operative could be responsible because it not only makes Hillary Clinton look bad but Barack Obama look bad, since it's an attack ad."
ROBIN ROBERTS: "Something to think about."
It sure is -- if you want people to think the worst about Republicans.

You would expect anything more from CBSNBCABCCNN?
Look, these people are out to take over the Gumment forever and institute their version of socialism, which keeps all the toys for them in a caste system that will rival Medieval times.

If we can put stuff this good out; then I have renewed confidence in the Republican leadership.

Why bother to watch these morning shows? It's just more left-wing bullshit from the moonbat media, same as the evening "news." The Internet is much better.

Just wait until Hillary hits Obama with a broadside. Only slightly less important that ripping his politcal guts out, will be pointing the finger of blame at the GOP.

I can't imagine the current spineless batch at the RNC doing anything like this, just as I can't imagine them being behind the Swift Boat Vets. Strong, active Republicans will have to go around or over the national party to get anything done.

My tagline says it all. The morning shows are viewed by 10 million or so people a day, who look to them for news and views. As such, I believe they're worth keeping an eye on.

Yes, but ABBCNNBCBS also claimed (repeated democrats' claims) that the "RATS" scrolling across the screen were a deliberate attack on democrats ...
Do they have a mind of their own? Does ANYBODY in the MSM actually think any more?

I guess Hillary is using it to gain sympthy.
If they had ignored it,it would have gone away by now and most of us wouldnt have seen it.

This ad hits way to close to home for the MSM. It must really worry them. It is also brilliant.
I doubt that the RNC had anything to do with it.
There is no reason for the RNC to attack Hillary at this point. It is much easier to sit back and watch the DIMS eat their young.
To: governsleastgovernsbest
Good gosh...an "attack ad". They all act like Hillary is above reproach...we aren't supposed to "invade her space" - she's HILLARY, for gosh sakes! You can't attack HER!!
Heck, they attack republicans all year long.
I sincerely HOPE the GOP is behind this. It's about time.

Only in the sense that he would be running an attack ad at all. One that does, after all, have that woman, who is supposed to represent him, hurl a hammer at Hillary and explode her to bits. Pretty aggressive stuff from someone who claims to want "a new kind of politics."
To: governsleastgovernsbest
I don't want to hear the MSM whining about a timid 'attack ad' like this '1984' mash-up. An attack ad was the 1964 LBJ
'Daisy' attack ad against Goldwater.

I said at the time, if it were a Republican, even against a Republican, the media would assume it were a coordinated hit. Note the flyers in South Carolina that were tied, with no evidence whatsoever, to the Bush campaign of 2000.
But apparently golden boy Obama is so "clean" that he would never think of creating such a video and posting it anonymously on YouTube.

Well done and dramatic. It makes you want to see it until the conclusion.
Looks Hollywood professional to me.

ABC Suggests GOP Behind '1984' Anti-Hillary Ad
No surprise. Hillary needs to resurrect some ole enemies to battle, and the demon Vast Right Wing Conspiracy fits right in. She is even calling Bill to help her out -- Selma and the fund-raiser this past weekend. She can't get there (Oval Office) without Bill's help.
[I wouldn't be surprised if it were discovered that Team Hillary made that ad and secretly distributed it, so they/she could play victim. She loves playing victim. She's had allot of experience doing it. If she really gets in trouble, she might even send Bill out on a 'secret affair' so she can get the sympathy vote by standing by her man. Hey, it worked before. And she will try anything that helps get her back into the Oval Office.]

If Bush had left the 04 election up to the GOP national leadership, we would have President Kerry. The SBV were not an official sanction -- sort of like the Minutemen, whom Bush decries. Yet, because of the SBV, GW got re-elected. He owes them for his win as much of Kerry owes them his loss.

"Robin, the ultimate conspiracy theory, some Democrats think a Republican operative could be responsible because it not only makes Hillary Clinton look bad but Barack Obama look bad, since it's an attack ad." If the video had attacked Bush instead, they would be praising free speech. But attacks against Democrats are not considered free speech. The word Bush-hater has never appeared in a news story, while Clinton-hater was used on a daily basis to discredit anyone who dared attack a Clinton.

Yeh.
That is why Hillary wants an gatekeeper for the Internet, why McCain continues to try to restrict First Amendment rights, etc.
If they get enough laws passed to control the Internet, they can control the flow of campaigns. Without those controls, politicians face all kinds of blind-side attacks. That is what the SBVs did to Kerry. Politicians can expect attacks from the opposition, etc. They plan for it, because it is within the overall political system. Politicians don't want outsiders interfering.

The really fascinating thing about this is that the ad is what copyright lawyers call a "derivative work" and it is based on the original Apple Computer ad. Indeed, it's a direct copy of the old Apple ad with the Witch's face and comments added and it even includes the Apple logo, converted into an "O" for Obama. As far as I know, Apple still has the copyright to both the ad and its logo. Most corporations, Apple included, fiercely defend their intellectual property and copyrighted materials, especially their logos and highly distinctive ads that could be purloined by other persons for purposes those corporations don't approve. Hence, one would think Apple would be particularly anxious not to have its ad and logo used in a very destructive, totally truthful ad against the bitterly vengeful Witch, who might become the next President, would remember and get revenge by, for example, excluding Apple from government contracting. That, in turn, means somebody very high up at Apple advertently decided to allow the unknown maker of this ad to use those two Apple crown jewels for a negative political ad at significant risk to Apple. The only way that could happen would be if the Apple official really wanted to get the Witch and was approached by some very important person whom he deeply respected and with whom he agreed. Since the Apple brass appears to be mostly libs, from what I've read and heard, this says to me that the Obama campaign put this together with some highly skilled and well connected assistance. Now Obama's deliberately fired a big, anonymous mud ball back at the Witch in return for for the whole series of smaller ones she's shot at him. Neither is able or willing to own up to what they're doing. Sit back and enjoy; the popcorn makers are going to get rich.

.. or any other Democrat. If things keep on as they are, we'll be talking about what great guys they are next election time, and GWB will be out stumping for them.
As for the ad (which is itself a take off on "Metropolis," by the way), it's NOT a takeoff on the Apple ad -- it IS the Apple ad, with digital alterations. It's brilliant and funny, but it's gotta be 100% illegal, and Obama's campaign would never have gotten permission to alter it like this even if they wanted to.
