President Bush tried to meet Congress halfway on that trumped-up federal prosecutor nonsense - and got his hand slapped away.
No surprise.
So why did he even bother?
On Tuesday, the president decided to let Congress look at executive-branch internal documents regarding personnel practice - an almost unheard of gesture.
All he asked was that lawmakers not issue subpoenas and create a media spectacle over the matter.
But less than 24 hours later, a House panel nonetheless authorized subpoenas for White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove, ex-Counsel Harriet Miers and other key Bush aides.
So much for the nice-guy route.
If the subpoenas are actually issued, the White House needs to fight them tooth-and-nail - for the president surely holds the constitutional high ground.
It is now clear that the Democratic Congress intends to give Bush no peace for the remainder of his term.
No peace on the war.
No peace domestically.
No peace whatsoever.
Bush needn't play along - not for a minute. And he shouldn't.
He's been offering olive branches left and right, and failing to defend what he believes is right.
He'd fallen down on this even before the latest flap over Attorney General Alberto Gonzales' handling of the ouster of eight federal prosecutors - a case where there's never been a shred of evidence of a scandal.

I just sent the White House and email:
Dear Mr. President,
The time has come to put aside your conciliatory nature. The time has come to defend and attack.
You have spoken often about our defense policy against terrorism: "we will stay on offense".
Why is this approach so lacking with your political policies? Sir - you must go on the offense - many of us
who are your strongest defenders are growing impatient with this constant "make nice" stance you take with the democrats and the media.
People respond to strength and leadership - you know that - remember when your approvals were at 75%? It wasn't because you offered to meet with terrorists and discuss things - it was when you told the world that America was coming.
If you want the troops to fight for you and this nation - you better show them you are just as much a fighter yourself.
Go out there and fight - please sir.
Its the new tone dont you know.
Careful there Jake....the Bots might label you a malcontent....for claiming he doesn't fight back.
I pray Bush stands strong and then starts FIGHTING these vile Democrats that are trying to make us LOSE to the Islamic terorists.
From your lips to God's ears! but he won't do it...Gonzalez is a wuss.
Prayers for W with you Suzy.
Mike
Thank you, Jake.
I'd like to see Bush come out at a presser and say "Look, I have tried evry way I know how to be fair with the Democrats and they have fought me tooth and nail on EVERYTHING, but now they are attacking the Constitutional rights of the Presidency, and I have to figth THEM tooth and nail."
Thank-you....This is what he....and we....need right now!
I emailed Bush to either start fighting or resign and let someone who will fight take over.
Everyone, including the NYPost has a firm grasp of the obvious except President Bush. That's deeply troubling. Bush will not take the offensive, he will not stand up to Congress, he will not fight for his military decisions and he doesn't stand up and fight for the support of our military. His silence on these topics is deafening. He hasn't defended or taken the attack to the enemy (Congress) in the past 6 years...no reason to believe he'll change. This is my problem with Bush, he's a total wimp.
I like the label - malcontent - sounds like a club I want to join..
Bush 41 and Bush 43 both have the same trait ... they both have a well deserved reputation for not quite grasping the severity of the issue at hand, in other words ... at times they appear to be clueless. GWB had better get a handle on the fact the 'Rats are out to destroy his Presidency ... he needs to start playing smash mouth football.
LOL. What a good troll bait thread this turned out to be!
....good troll bait thread
The headline is the draw, we watch them, they us.
Next couple of months will be interesting.
...start playing smash mouth football.

I like that idea.

"By taking the low road, the whole government descends into chaos. And who will they blame, well the president of course, he's the leader of the country. This is exactly what the Dems want he would be playing right into their hands.
By taking the high road, Bush would preserve the dignity of the government and the scoundrels would be revealed by their outrageous behavior. Of course with the media covering for them it might take decades for the truth to come out and untold damage would be done to the country by then.
They've got Bush cornered and the calvary is not coming."
While I can certainly see your point, Bush has no choice but to fight back at this point. The country is already descending into 'chaos' with the Dems at the gavel in the Congress!
We forget that one of the main reasons for the Dems to be making this stink about the US attorneys is to protect their own from prosecution, ie Rockefeller, Reid, Jefferson, Berger, etc.
They think that by throwing up this latest nonsense(to muddy the waters), it puts them in a better position should indictments be handed down on their lads.
Bush has no choice but to fight back now. The dems and the media have lead a rather successful campaign for six years to 'criminalize' conservatism and the republican party and it is time for the Administration and all conservatives to fight back!!
End of rant...(grin)
....this is pushing crucial issues to the back burner - like Iran, north Korea, the economy, immigration and Chavez.

That's it in a nut shell, and that's the MSM/DRat agenda.
Look, Bush and the Dems have a deal...somehow he fell for it.....this is all too unexplainable for it to be Bush just not realizing that the Dems are shiving him...something smells rotten.
