Edwards to Suspend Campaign (Update: Wife's cancer has returned - Does not suspend Campaign)
The Politico ^ | March 22, 2007 | Ben Smith

Posted on 03/22/2007 8:23:49 AM PDT by kddid

John Edwards is suspending his campaign for President, and may drop out completely, because his wife has suffered a recurrence of the cancer that sickened her in 2004, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, an Edwards friend told The Politico.

"At a minimum he's going to suspend" the campaign, the source said. "Nobody knows precisely how serious her recurrence is. It’ll be another couple of days before there’s complete clarity."

"For him right now he has one priority which is her health and the security of the two young children," said the friend.

As for the campaign, "You don't shut this machine off completely, but everything will go on hold."

Please, please, please refrain from saying asinine things that justify every caricature of conservatives.

C'mon, Dan, let us have a little shadenfreude. Just because a man's wife has breast cancer is no reason to suddenly get all compassionate and understanding is it? /sarcasm

He wasn't going to get the nomination anyway. His best chance was to repeat as VP.

Prayers for Edward's wife. Edward's decision to drop out has more to do with his nearly zero chances of winning than anything to do with his wife's health.

Well, I was hoping for a 'ruse' of sorts of John's behalf. ..and easy out; or whatever. But this 'whatever' is not a good one; and no doubt brings much angst to entire family. Hope Elizabeth makes good on 'this ' one; as she did her last encounter. Prayers for her good health.

Bad news all the way around. Prayers for the Edwards family at this difficult time.

On a snarkier note, I will certainly miss future opportunities to lambast the esteemed candidate.

A recurrence is difficult to overcome with breast cancer. The family has had their share of tragedy.

I hope she pulls through, especially for the sake of her children.

We made fun of Edwards for some of his personal foilbles, but in this case he has his priorities in the right place. He is to be commended for a praiseworthy decision.

Prayers to the Edwards family and may God keep Mrs. Edwards and restore her to full and complete health.

Be Seeing You,

Chris
