Edwards to Suspend Campaign (Update: Wife's cancer has returned - Does not suspend Campaign)
The Politico ^ | March 22, 2007 | Ben Smith

Posted on 03/22/2007 8:23:49 AM PDT by kddid

John Edwards is suspending his campaign for President, and may drop out completely, because his wife has suffered a recurrence of the cancer that sickened her in 2004, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, an Edwards friend told The Politico.

"At a minimum he's going to suspend" the campaign, the source said. "Nobody knows precisely how serious her recurrence is. It’ll be another couple of days before there’s complete clarity."

"For him right now he has one priority which is her health and the security of the two young children," said the friend.

As for the campaign, "You don't shut this machine off completely, but everything will go on hold."

Please, please, please refrain from saying asinine things that justify every caricature of conservatives.

It will be difficult for him to get back into this thing at a later date.

How sad. I wish her the best and will pray that she recovers from this terrible affliction. It is not to be wished upon anyone.

C'mon, Dan, let us have a little shadenfreude. Just because a man's wife has breast cancer is no reason to suddenly get all compassionate and understanding is it? /sarcasm

He wasn't going to get the nomination anyway. His best chance was to repeat as VP.

Prayers up for Mrs Edwards and family. It's a fate I'd wish on no husband, to see his wife suffer :(

Prayers for Edward's wife. Edward's decision to drop out has more to do with his nearly zero chances of winning than anything to do with his wife's health.

I can't say I'll miss hearing him talk, but I do wish the best for his wife's health and their family. This is a devastating disease that no one deserves.
