Indeed, and were stopped in their tracks from reaching the Middle East.
Seeing as how Japan is one of the few friends we have this chuckle head's quote is filed under "humor".
Imagine Nancy P. or Murtha in that seat, or howz about 'Hairy' Reed. HA!
Spoiler comment- drag mouse over to read.
" Japan- the only country that I know of where your afternoon skiing might be interrupted by a screaming, naked man in a rocket-propelled recliner."
I am of European ancestry, but look alot more Arab than Mr. Asole.
They are feeling very empowered these days.
Slips of the tongue betray the hidden, true heart (of many).
Not a few even right here on FR believe in empowering the Japanese against the Red Chinese.
Unfortunately, the pendulum swings from extreme pacificism to extreme nationalism with now in-between...things like this are the unfortunate byproduct--and none of us should be surprised!!
" What an Aso.
"
Hey - I live in Aso ( County ) and my next door neighbor's last name is ASO !
OOPS ...didn't read the whole article so was happily unaware the jerk's names was Aso !
"Foreign Ministry officials were unable to comment on the report, which said Aso elaborated by saying Japan had never exploited the Middle East, started a war there or fired a shot."
All of Japan's significant raping and pillaging happened in Asia.
This is a hoot! Asian memories linger long, and many, many, many "yellow-faced" Chinese, Koreans, etc. still hate the Japanese for their incredible brutality before and during WWII.
Hey Tojo, that's because the Engrish stopped you in Burma/India and Asia was in the way of your IJN ships.
Isn't it interesting that all of a sudden high-ranking Japanese politicians are making unpleasant statements on U.S.? Abe's unapologetic public stance on Comfort Women issue, threat of buying Eurofighters if they cannot get F-22. Now Aso's belittling of U.S. diplomats.
To me, these all show creeping contempt to U.S. from Japan's leadership. What migh have been confined to their private conversations are now expressed in public. It seems that U.S. leadership is losing respect of Japanese leadership. Recent about-face on N. Korea by Bush may have something to do with it.
It seems that Japan no longer respects U.S.the way it used to. The recent development regarding N. Korea may have convinced Japanese LDP big wigs that it is time to break out and chart their own course instead of being a junior partner of U.S..
If China becomes more accommodating to U.S. in the days ahead, it may be due more to Japan's ominous change than Condi's "wonderful diplomacy."
Wonderful quote! Substance or lack of it aside, it is REFRESHING to see a nation not whipped by political correctness!!!
The guy really needs to shut up.
