How far should employers should go to accommodate Muslim religious beliefs in the workplace?
Muslims across the metro area are divided on the issue.
Abdi Sheikhosman, a professor of Islamic law at the University of Minnesota Law School: "You cannot expect someone who came to this country just five or six years ago, with such a longstanding tradition of their own in their home country, where they have preserved their culture for time immemorial, to come here and overnight act exactly as a third-generation Minnesotan from Norway. ... Other Muslims, who are mostly professionals, business owners, you know, non-Somali Muslims, don't really interact in large numbers with the Americans in their workplace. But Somalis have a greater degree of interaction with Americans, which then brought up a certain clash, if you will, or 'shock and awe' reaction from many Americans. ... This clash is attributed largely to the Somalis because it's the Somalis who are in the workforce here."

I agree. Americans always go out of the way to respect the customs of other countries. It is time that people going to America do the same.

Here, in a few words is the basis of the problem with Muslims. They do not interact with the general population and stay within their own communities. There they can soak in all of the hate that is taught by their religion, they feed off of each others hate. Just like so many others that have recently come to America, they do not want to assimilate into the community. In other words they do not want to be Americans and be part of this greatest of all experiments.
I have no reason to want to go to an Islamic culture. I wouldn't want to live under those conditions.
It is difficult for me to believe that any of these people didn't have at least some idea of what living in America is like. They had to yet they came here anyway and now want us to change our rules to suit them.
And sadly enough we have plenty of politicians and citizens more than willing to do so.
How many muslims are too many?
Would you like to have a 51% muslim-American population?

What I am interested in is that 100% of whatever the Islamic population we have here be tolerant of other's beliefs and be able to assimilate and follow our culture and rule of law.
If they can't do that they should stay where they were. Those are the exact same conditions I place on myself.
To answer your question anyway I would say a very small percent since I believe a very small percent of Islamics can bend enough to ever have a place in American culture.
That is about as honest an answer as I know how to give to a question like that.

The year of 911 my wife and I headed for Florida. I told her when i left I wasnt staying in any hotel with Muslims, we drove for about 8 hours and started looking on I-95 for a place to sleep. we looked for over 2 hours and probably 100 miles before we finally came across a place to stay.
Even the Ramada was run by Pakistani's.

I work at a nursing home for Alzheimer's residents. We warn muslims when they come to apply for work that we are required by our licensing agency to drug screen and fingerprint all applicants.
Most will not apply. Those who do are warned that they will not be allowed to wear their totally covered garb - the reason is - IT SCARES THE RESIDENTS. If they cannot adjust their "uniform" to conform to our specifications, they cannot work for us. We are right upfront about it.
I always apologize and try to explain to the applicants that our residents' mental condition makes them very fearful and for a person to be all covered, it's very frightening to our residents. The nursing home is A RESIDENCE - and caring for the patients and making them happy are the most important things.

I've heard some pretty outrageous stories from people who work in the hotel industry. You want to be REAL sure to get the Gideon's Bible out of the drawer in the room before a Muslim checks in. The front desk folks don't make that mistake twice.
In islamic nations they have the Quran in hotel desk drawers, and "Quibla" (direction to Makkah, for prayers) arrows stuck in the rooms.
I can't tell you how many of them (both Qurans and Quibla arrows) I have accumulated over the years, and the fun I've had with them. ;oP

I can too. They are the GUESTS here in our home. We make the rules. We don't HAVE to do it their way. We don't HAVE to hire them, either. It is not a God-given right to have a job. You do it the way your boss asks you to do or else you are not the right guy for that job. And they sure as hell don't have to stay here if it's too tough for them.

Excellent point. We are going the way of France and England. They are ruing the day they allowed so many Muslim workers in just to be accomodating. To be frank, very ,very few Muslims become American in heritage, history or mindset. The Left will scream but we should have an almost zero quota % for any Muslim wanting to come to the USA. And please don't throw up the Statue Of Liberty or we are a nation of immigrants. Spare me with the world's huddled masses.

This TV brainwashing provided the foundation for children learning to worship the brave martyrs who carry out allah's work here on earth, and spend many an hour partaking in traditional activities seen on TV, such as dressing up as suicide bombers and acting out imaginary scenes where they achieve shahadah.

The problem is the apology and the need to explain policy. It's rather ironic that we can develop a policy that implies Islamic garb could be the stuff of nightmares to patients with mental health issues, but yet perfectly healthy individuals are being sued by CAIR for being nervous about the garb and behavior of the flying imams.
But it reads, "Muslims in the workplace" (in the West, I'm guessing).
And immediately the thought comes to mind:
Muslims don't belong in the "workplace".
They don't belong here in the West, period.

Why are you so hung up on the "apology". Our company has every right to treat people of other faiths with respect. It's their choice of religions .. and I don't have to believe in it to respect them as people.
The FACT that their CHOSEN GARB scares our people - is a perfectly legitimate reason not to hire them.
