KEENE Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., tapped into the heart of the conservative base by addressing concerns of a lagging economy due to Chinese trade and his hopes of building a fence along the U.S.-Mexico border during a campaign stop yesterday.
"Right now there is a small green line between that border," said Hunter of the current border patrol. Hunter, who has represented San Diego in Congress since 1980 and is a ranking member of the House Armed Services Committee, told Cheshire County Republicans yesterday he fought to build a fence on the California border and saw human and narcotic smuggling drop by 90 percent as a result.
He has petitioned the Bush administration to expand the border 854 miles, but said he's been frustrated to see only seen a mile and a half actually built.
Hunter also criticized current trade deals with China and cautioned Americans of that country's accelerating military capability.
"A trade deal is a business deal between countries and our country made a bad business deal," said Hunter of taxes and tariffs that allow Chinese products to become cheaper to American consumers, which leads to a loss of jobs at American manufacturing plants.
Hunter also condemned the Chinese deal that bought defense weapons from Russia that could be used against the U.S. if China decided to provoke a conflict.
"China has decided to become a military superpower," he said.
Hunter is a Vietnam veteran and father of an Iraq War veteran.
Hunter is a Vietnam veteran and father of an Iraq War veteran.
He has the personal style and credibility and with the war issue we are facing and the candidate having to sell the Iraq war, it is important we have the strongest possible candidate to put some reality to the situation. The Demonrats used it to their advantage in Virginia with James Webb who was able to cut into many votes from Allen with pointing out that he is a vet with a son who served in Iraq. Kerry tried to use the war hero status and was actually leading Bush for some time until the Swift Boat vets came out and exposed him as the traitor he is. Hunter is the best candidate and the best man for President in these times. If your a supporter, we need to keep contributing and volunteering at http://www.gohunter08.com Let's make sure everyone gets more informed of who the real deal is in this election.
Ping!
Ping! How could I forget you? Your posts are always excellent.
Hunter shows no fear against the treasonous Demonrats and their media minions. That's just part of the reason why he will make the strongest possible GOP nominee.
Just some background info on Hunter and his outspoken nature to go where not many(I don't think any) Republicans go with their spineless nature.
Hunter on Abu Ghraib(courtesyhttp://www.larouchepub.com/other/2004/3128goss_hunter_block.html : )
Probably the single loudest obstructionist voice in the House of Representatives in support of the Cheneyac "Beastman" policy in Iraq has been Armed Services Committee chairman Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.). Hunter has been able to use his position to block any meaningful inquiry into the Abu Ghraib prison scandal and at every public opportunity, has railed against those who are demanding such an investigation. He even went after his GOP counterpart in the Senate, John Warner (Va.), for holding three hearings in two weeks on the scandal, practically accusing Warner of treason.
Under great public pressure, Hunter has since held one hearing, for part of one day, and has no intention of having any more. During debate on the Fiscal Year 2005 Defense Authorization bill, on May 19, Hunter declared, "We have had enormous publicity the last number of days about the mess at Abu Ghraib. I estimated we have probably devoted as much media attention to that mess involving now, as identified, some seven personnel, as we did to the Normandy invasion. And that is an imbalance. It is time to refocus." What did he want to refocus on? "The 135,000 great personnel doing their job in Iraq."
On June 14, when the committee took up a resolution of inquiry sponsored by some 40 Democrats, demanding the Pentagon be more forthcoming with documents relating to the prison scandal, Hunter placed the 6,000 pages of the report on the abuse and torture of prisoners filed by U.S. Army General Anthony Taguba (the Taguba Report) on a table at the head of the hearing room and railed at the Democrats, "Isn't that enough for you?"

California Republican Duncan Hunter held a press conference to discuss the treatment of detainees at the island jail, and spent his opening statement going over a daily menu for prisoners that included oven-fried chicken and fresh fruit.
"This is what Osama bin Laden's bodyguards will eat several times a week. Lemon chicken, rice, broccoli, carrots, bread and two types of fruit," Hunter said, inviting a reporter to come eat with him.
Hunter was digging himself out of small hole he got into over the weekend when he said on a news program that the White House is divided over whether to close the jail.
"I think they've come to the conclusion, some members of the White House have come to the conclusion that the legend now, that the legend is different than the fact, and when that's the case you go with the legend that somehow Guantanamo has been a place of abuse and you close it down and you shorten the stories, you shorten the heated debate and you get it off the table and you move on," he said.
Good man,
but,,
if a tree falls in the forest - and no one is there to hear it......
You'd hear it alright. You can start with actually having to take a look at the substance of the GOP candidates next month in New Hampshire.
bump
Duncan Hunter has too much class to shout about his time in Viet Nam and use his son's service. Yes, I have heard him talk about it from time to time, but only when pushed to make a point. I wish people would clean out their ears and actually listen to what the man has to say. He actually talks about all of the issues facing us and has a PLAN and direction. I truly believe the media is ignoring him because they are scared. I believe the GOP is ignoring him because they are scared. Thankfully, I have seen him getting more face time on t.v..
Why would that be?
His stance on illegal immigration is the first thing that comes to mind. The RNC, Mel Martinez wants amnesty/guest worker program.
I think you're right PM.
Good morninig, good person!!!
Bump for Hunter!!

DUNCAN HUNTER Champion of Property Rights and Real Free Trade!
[snip]Recently, Hunter has stated this concerning property rights and the Kelo property rights/eminent domain decision by the Supreme Court:
"I am deeply concerned with the Supreme Courts 5-4 decision greatly broadening local governments use of eminent domain in Kelo vs. New London and believe it is important that Congress protect the property rights of private landowners and curb the government from excessive regulatory takings. It is for this reason that I voted in favor of expressing the grave disapproval of the House of Representatives regarding the majority opinion in the Kelo case.
Additionally, I cosponsored H.R. 3268 , the Eminent Domain Tax Relief Act of 2005, which abolished the capital gains tax on private property taken by the government through eminent domain. I also voted in favor of a legislative amendment offered to H.R. 3058, the FY2006 Transportation, Treasury, Housing and Urban Development, the Judiciary, the District of Columbia, and Independent Agencies Appropriations Act, prohibiting federal funding from being used to improve or construct infrastructure support on lands acquired through the use of eminent domain of private property for private development."
Hunter was awarded the American Farm Bureau Federation Friend of Farm Bureau award for the 105th Congress. The "Friend of Farm Bureau" is given each session of Congress to those members of Congress who were nominated by their respective state Farm Bureau and approved by the American Farm Bureau Federation Board of Directors.
