Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani led off with his strongest card, his terrorism-fighting credentials, before touching on healthcare, immigration and energy policy in a speech to a welcoming crowd Saturday.
"Sept. 11, 2001, taught me and I believe it taught a lot of people, including President Bush that we have to remain on offense," Giuliani said. "That means that we have to use our military. We can't show weakness."
Giuliani seemed to hit all the right notes Saturday, getting applause when he criticized Democrats' stance on healthcare and advocated vouchers for schools.
On immigration, he told reporters he doesn't support amnesty for illegal immigrants, but he could support a guest worker program if there were adequate border security and tamper-proof ID cards. He said that even if illegal immigrants "can demonstrate that they are lawful, that they are paying taxes [and] that they'll pay penalties," they still shouldn't be put ahead of people who go through legal channels.
"And citizenship here, if it's earned, should be premised on being able to read and write English and understand American history, so we restore assimilation to the process of immigration," he said.
"Nothing will unite the Republicans more than a candidate who can beat Hillary Clinton," Curry said.

"Pretending that Giuliani is no different from Hillary is not only disingenuous, but it's an insult to people's intelligence."
At least Hillary honored her marriage vows.
His gun control policies affected many more people than criminals. And NYC has had gun control since 1911 (Sullivan Act); why do you think crime was so bad when he came into office. His crime fighting measures does not excuse his gun control stances; after initially bringing crime down, repealing NYC's gun control laws would have been a proper second step. He didn't.
But Rudy understands that what works in New York doesnt necessarily work in Mississippi or Montana.
Then WHY did he enthusiastically support Bill Clinton's assault weapons ban, which would be enacted throughout the ENTIRE UNITED STATES?
I believe a Biblical quote will suffice here.
Mark 8:36 - "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?"
"At least Hillary honored her marriage vows."
Right...because if its not covered by the MSN, it didnt happen./sarc
Not scared, informed.
Second Amendment Rudy Giuliani is a strong supporter of the Second Amendment
Huh??? Last I heard he was for gun registration for hunters and anyone else with a "legitimate need" to own firearms. and no ownership at all without registration. He also was one of the first mares in line to sue gun manufacturers. This isn't the 2nd amend I know . You must be thinking of the other 2nd amend . The one that says "the total disarmament of all civilians is necessary to the security of a police state."
...he protected people by getting illegal handguns out of the hands of criminals. ...
Out of the hands of citizens rather than criminals as I understood it.
As a result, shootings fell by 72% and the murder rate was cut by two-thirds
NOT CAUSE AND EFFECT. Do you think that going from 23,000 sworn officers in the NYPD to 55,000 sworn officers in the NYPD might have had a more causal relationship with the drop in crime than enforcing the Dinkins semi-autoban which had the net effect of his getting about 45 people who otherwise weren't criminals arrested for not getting rid of their registered firearms?
My guess is that if you post a chart with Hunter's economic policies next to Clinton's, they would be the same. Hunter may be conservative on social issues, but he's the biggest RINO in the race on economic issues.
And so do a mjaority of women, conservative woman even. Even FR conservative women.
I want it taken off the table.
So, you're solution to abortion is that we "take it off the table" by electing a liberal who happens to have an "R" after his name? You do that and the Republican Party WILL BE DESTROYED.
And for the record, I question your premise that the majority of women are pro-abortion. And as far as women on FR being pro-abortion, there are a few and I am well aware of who they are (and surprise, surprise, ALMOST ALL OF THEM SUPPORT RUDY).
This comment alone says you are not pro life. Taking the life of an unborn human is one hell of a lot more serious than cosmetic surgery. I think that little human is entitled to live as much as me or you. I am glad my mother was a wonderful woman and took responsibility to give me life.
The job of ending it does not belong on the POTUS, but the POTUS can be the one to place those that can change it. Many people are led down a path to abort their child as though it is nothing. People can set a tone by the people we elect.
Rudy wears dresses, Hillary doesn't.
That's not a commitment to anything other than preserving the status quo and the result of that is more than 3500 babies are killed EVERY DAY!
Rudy is better than mccain!
He will vote 3rd party, which means hitlary will win, but atleast HIS Priciples weren't compromised.
"This comment alone says you are not pro life."
No it does not.
"Taking the life of an unborn human is one hell of a lot more serious than cosmetic surgery."
Well of course it is. But 50 million abortions proves others dont believe that way. Again, its about winning the hearts and minds of the woman who have them. As it stands most abortions are performed on a cosemetic basis, and that was the point I was making. I say let them pay for it. beat them at their own game. My tax dollars nor my insurance premiums should be paying for it.
We have been fighting abortion from a legal standpoint for year. It is is still legal. We need to fight it from the ground up. Thats just how I feel about it.
Well, dropping the subject won't work and electing a pro-abortion president sure as hell isn't the answer.
The left is more than happy to privately fund abortuaries as Ronald Reagan found out, maybe you weren't aware of that.
" 3500 babies are killed EVERY DAY!"
Its actually closer to 4,400 everyday.
how many young girls have your peronsally convinced to not only not have an abortion, but stop going to Planned Parenthood and further the cause?
Do not tell me that I am not committed to the cause. I am in the trenches everday speaking to girls, educating them on the practice, and its hystory (Magaret Sanger) etc. I know for a fact that I have had a direct impact on their views.
Many of them have told me they didnt know anything about Margaret Sanger and after hearing and seeing it, they now not only will no longer support Planned Parenthood, but have encouraged all their friends to do the same.
All of this despite the fact that for most of years they have walked this earth, there was a Pro-Life POTUS.
Having a Pro-Life POTUS does not trickle down to the young
Selling millions of fast food burgers doesn't mean they are good.
You are very flippant. You are not pro life and the number you quoted, you quoted as though it was something to be proud of because 50 million abortions must make it right.
I feel ill now, I would rather change a litter box than carry on any serious meaningful conversation with a lost soul.
Several dozen, but as a 39 year old man, I do not have the opportunities to counsel women as other women would.
I am all in favor of your "grass roots" movement, but unless Roe v. Wade is overturned, it will never have an impact.
Your opinion of me personally has no bearing on the issue. You fight your cause the way you see fit and I will fight mine the way I see fit.
I know the lives I have changed and I dont need some stranger on a message board with an agenda of their own to validate that for me.
Thats fine. I will make sure everyone I know can get to the polls on primary day to vote against Rudy.
